Richard Ellis has written sixteen books on ecology and extinction and is a research associate at the American Museum of Natural history: his Tiger Bone & Rhino Horn: The Destruction Of Wildlife For Traditional Chinese Medicine presents a damning expose of the tortures and horrors animals experience in the trade for animal parts in traditional Chinese medicine. There's a large list of endangered animals which are deemed essential ingredients in Chinese potions: Richard Ellis discusses the dilemma and explores how the animals may be protected.

If you want to learn about the Tasmanian tiger this is a good starting point. Before purchasing this book my only knowledge of the Tasmanian Tiger (Thylacine ) was that in the early 19th centuary they were wiped out.Sometimes on tv you might see the old black & white newsreel of the "Tiger" walking around , then the yawn showing a alligator smile full of teeth. The reason correct or not was that they were sheep-killers and the government paid a bounty on every Thylacine killed. Soon in a matter of years it was gone. This book has many black & white photos(25+) and stories of early setlers encounters.The more recent sightings in the 1990's might prove that it has survived past 1936.That was the year that the last known "Tiger", Benjamin died alone in the Beaumaris Zoo. After reading this book I hope (like the author) that it still roams the wilds trying to survive mankind.

I am a great lover of tigers, and if you are too i can highly recommend this calender, it has some of the best pictures i have ever seen. And i am so glad i bought this, i bought this calendar direct from WWF and i don't think you can purchase a calendar quite like this one. not only that but a percentage of the money you spend on this calendar goes towards saving the tigers of the wild.

The author has produced a very readable and accurate view of this vanishing American. I am unaware of any comparable book on the subject and I recommend it highly. Furman has obviously expended a huge amount of time in research, interviews and time spent in the field with other top experts. Very informative and entertaining. I will give it a prominent place in my nature library and believe anyone interested in ecology should obtain a copy.

The authors cover a whole century of appearances of endangered birds all over Greece in a very thorough and convincing way

I totally loved this book it was unbelivble. I have a project to make about the rain forest and it helped me so i got the best pictures. i really love it

-Turtle Conservation is a much-needed overview of the problems facing turtle populations in the world today. Klemens and company make a critical assessment of the threats facing turtles and the solutions often propounded to save them. The sad state of the world's turtle populations is made clear (as Klemens notes, turtles may be in as much trouble as amphibians, but haven't received as much attention), and the causes of decline are reviewed in chapters covering groups of turtles inhabiting different general habitats (marine, river, still freshwater, and terrestrial), as well as the effectiveness of various conservation methods for the unique needs of each group. A common thread in all the chapters is that the techniques that have been employed (headstarting, farming, "sustainable harvest," etc) to conserve turtles in the past are largely "halfway technologies," which treat symptoms and not causes of decline. The message is that less "hands on" approaches are the most effective in the long run, which means habitat conservation and better planning of development. This is not a picture book or an introduction to turtle biology, but a critical look at the conservation needs of turtles. It gives practical information and suggestions on how to protect our dwindling turtle populations. I recommend this authoritative book not only for those interested in turtle conservation (for whom it is required reading), but anyone interested in conservation of biological diversity, because it illustrates how each group of organisms has its own specific conservation needs, and yet how all are joined by the same requirement for habitat conservation.

This book provides fast, accurate information for any individual or group interested in conservation. Of particular value is the location identification and present U.S. and State ratings of individual species. A must book for all environmental groups engaged in denfensive habitat protection.

This book is an excellent reference for small children. The pictures are superb. It briefly, but factually, teaches about vultures
