Bear in mind the book was published in 1992. But the text has withstood the test of time. It's a wealth of information for pesticide educators that can now be supplemented by on-line information. To give you a clue, I don't plan to sell my used copy because of the extensive pesticide-specific data, and the excellent articles I can't find anywhere else. A tribute to Rachel herself.

Gives an introduction to various apects of system safety. It has worksheets that can be applied at work. Nothing complicated about the book, it is very concise and easy to understand. I bought it to be introduced to system safety before reading Moriarty's system safety book.

I found this book to be just what I needed to refresh me on the math that I should know but have forgotten. Most of the basic techniques are covered, including calculus, trig, statistics and others. I was left wanting more, but for the price and accessibility of this work, it is a gem.

Written for pharmacists!

This is a great book on interpreting laboratory data and it is really specifically written for pharmacists. It doesn't give a lot of detail on how laboratory testing is performed and it doesn't give that much detail on the diagnostic utility of the different tests. If you are a pharmacist or pharmacy student who needs to look up tests (what does an elevated reticulocyte count mean?), this book is for you. I bought a previous edition of this book for a clinical chemistry course when I was in pharmacy school and have taught from this edition now that I am a professor at a pharmacy school. I recommend it to all my students. My only complaint is that it takes many years for new editions to come out. In my opinion, the section on testing for infectious disease is already out of date.

I have extensive experience with continuous process control systems. When I bought this book I was looking for a reference to learn about batch processes and Batch Control. I wasn't disappointed at all.
This volume is part of the Practical Guides Series developed and published by ISA (formerly "The Instrument Society of America", later "The International Society for Measurement and Control" and now known as "The Instrument, Systems and Automation Society"). The Practical Guides were concived to bridge the gap between theory and actual practice, and the stress is placed on the actual experience of measurement and control practitioners.
As I mentioned I own this book, and I truly believe it is a good introductory reference to the world of Batch Control. It gives an excellent overview using practical language and examples, dedicating 9 full chapters to case histories and applications, and will be helpful in your work if you are involved with batch processes.
The book is organized covering the following topics:
- History of batch process control.
- Fundamentals of batch management.
- Fundamentals of batch recipes.
- Namur.
- Marketing a batch system.
- Reactors, finishing equipment, and utilities.
- Methods of batch control.
- Fundamentals of units development.
- Fundamentals of information and software management.
- Fundamentals of batch logic documentation.
- Production scheduling.
- Fundamentals of fault detection and analysis.
- Specification of a control system for batch processes.
- Implementation of general recipe.
- Batch supervisory control.
- Equipment selection.
- Configuration.
- Safety as a methodology.
- Methodology of batch control.
- Principles of batch control.
- The role of the operator in batch control.
- Expert system techniques for batch process control.
- Object-oriented programming for batch process control.
- Advanced control of batch processes.
- Modeling and simulation of batch processes.
- Batch control in a CIM / MES environment.
CASE STORIES OF BATCH CONTROL
- Temperature control of batch reactors.
- Decision support systems applied to exothermic reactions.
- Case studies for batch process simulation, flexible batch recipe, and batch data management.
- Batch control in a brewhouse.
- Automation of batch bio reactor.
- Batch control in a resin plant.
- Application to a consumer products plant.
- Using sequential function charts to automate batch biotech operations.
- Batch control of an ABS plant.
APPENDIX:
- Terminology of batch processing and control.

This book provides a great overview of battery chemistries, charging algorithms. and modeling techniques. If you are an engineer designing battery operated equipment or chargers, this is s great reference. It is starting to become a bit dated, due to the rapid advancement in battery technolgy and charging techniques, but it is still valuable.

This book is expensive but an extraordinary value if you are seriously interested in the use of bee products for medicine. It is a resource I have returned to many times and referred to others. The price should be compared to the cost of attending an excellent international conference, rather than compared to the price of a book.
Highlights for me were-
The best article on bee pollen I have ever read and the only source I've found on the benefits of pollen during pregnancy. Very serious & very concise.
Dr Franco Feraboli's challenge of the basic assumptions on the cause of the primary beneficial effects of bee venom in medicine. A major contribution to the literature.
Dr Theo Cherbuliez's classic article on the role of bee sting therapy and chronicity and acuteness of health conditions.
Research on the use of propolis as a preservative.
This book is too little read by students of 'bee medicine.'

Terrence Lee's book title, "A beginners guide to Mass Spectral Interpretation" is quite accurate. It is an excellent source of information for the mass spec novice. It is well written and he also stresses pitfalls students routinely make in analysis. I would recommend this book to any beginner,(undergraduate, graduate or whomever), it makes climbing the learning curve easier. Three thumbs up!.

This book should be required reading for anyone involved in the scientific side of the cosmetics industry. I would've loved to have had this book when I first started out, and it certainly helped to fill in the gaps that I didn't have in my training as a cosmetic chemist. This book is very easy to read and the study guide is a helpful tool as well.
