Excellent book: but to grasp everything one will need to read through a few simpler texts first, say Scaling Concepts by de Gennes, Introduction to Polymer Physics by Doi, some Rheology book say Viscoelastic properties of Polymers by Ferry and Polymer Solutions by I Teraoka.

This book is excellent, there is maybe none better that gets into the fundamentals of polymer motion. A warning: I read two or three other textbooks before I could understand this one.

This book is great. It clearifies many ideas about polymer dynamics. If you want to understand more about this area, there is no better book to start with. But be careful, it was not designed for beginners. This is really great

The growth of organometallics is amazing, so we want a systematic book to introduce the developments, and this one is very suitable. Hegedus introduced many new synthetic technology in this book, and they are very useful for chemists research work.

Hegedus has blended theory perfectly with synthetic utility of transition metals. The second addition has a lot more updated, state-of-art examples in synthesis.

Hegedus does an excellent job of outlining the broad field of organometallic chemistry. He covers a vast range of topics, providing the reader with a strong background in the subject area. He utilizes current literature examples to demonstrate the use and importance of the topics presented. Overall, this is a very well written book, and a great reference.

In Universal Foam by Sidney Perkowitz, we encounter everyday phenomenon and objects - coffee froth, beer head, styrofoam cups, soap suds, shaving cream, bread, cork - and begin to see the underlying mystery, pleasure and physics, that guides their appearance, form and function. The science of bubbles contains answers to complex and varied questions: puzzles about the origin of universe and the softness of bread are revealed and deciphered using foam physics. As a teacher, Perkowitz exudes a ready wit, an imitable enthusiasm about the subject.

After reading this book, the ubiquitous foaminess of the world will reveal itself to you at every juncture. A glass of beer will turn into a laboratory for experiments about size dependence of bubbles of the froth, their stability and strength, and their variation with brand. As you stir your coffee, the foam will organize into patterns; corks on wine bottle will spark discussions about why certain champagnes taste better just because of their packaging. A walk by seaside or river will prompt observations about how much rain (and condensation nuclei) is being generated by the white effervescent milkiness that rides the waves. Night sky shall beckon your thoughts about big bang and about questions as philosophical as "do we really live in a bubble?" The book will reveal the scientific merit of such a question (and many more).

Universal foam is a great read, both as an introduction to the initiated, and as a witty jaunt for they who work their hours of intellectual activity by exploding or imploding bubbles. If you are looking for a more mathematical account, "The Physics of Foams" by Denis Wearie and Stefan Hutzler will provide you both with entertainment and equations in a beery Irish manner. (The text starts with the line: "Pour a bottle of beer")

I bought this book out of curiosity. But I have to tell you that this book is fascinating. If you only considered foam when you had a cup of cappuccino or whipped up some egg white. - Then think again. It is everywhere- it ranges are limitless, as limitless as the universe. So consider foam when you think of beer, bubbles, cells and viruses, in medicine, the earth itself (volcanoes, oceans, etc.), and how about poisons, and lets not forget artificial intelligence and the quantum.

Foam is something literally all around us (and in us). It's noteworthy that HS or college science courses rarely discuss foam -- this is simultaneously cutting-edge and highly accessible science.

I found this book because I was fascinated by foaming soaps -- like the "Kiss My Face" brand of hand-pump soap dispensers. Foaming soaps take about 10% of liquid soap to wash your hands. They seem to take less water and less time to clean your hands. And I noticed that the soaps were able to get my eyeglasses squeaky-clean very quickly.

"Universal Foam" explains these phenomena well. It also has many different examples of foam in our everyday lives: bread, souffles, pumice, cork, champagne, etc. The book then explores smaller foams: viruses, quantum foams, etc. It also explores large foams: the distribution of galaxies in the universe. I suppose that one could skip these chapters, however, I suspect that people will find such topics far more interesting and accessible because they all have a common theme of foam. To say this differently, this book is a foam-centric survey of the physics of the universe.

People who are already interested in science in general will love this book. I guarantee they will learn new things. In particular, the resiliency -- the non-hookian nature -- of foam is a very important concept to understand.

For people who are nurturing/developing their curiousity of science, this is a safe book to start with. Perkowitz clearly loves science, and anybody reading this book will pick up on his passion.

I love books like this; they have us look at the world in new ways. This book is on my recommended list to bodyworkers to understand their craft -- and the world -- better.

My 4-year-old daughter loves this book. She had me read it over-and-over again. Then we started mixing some stuff together. She may not understand everything but it sure has been fun!

Dr. Kain's science books provide marvelous supplemental activities for children to experience the excitement of science. The activities are great for kids with learning handicaps and offer them the opportunity to enjoy and learn outside of a more rigid curriculum. Children are introduced to the concept of the scientific method in a fun and hands-on fashion. Teachers are given ideas for extending the activities into other academic disciplines. And finally there is a wealth of additional resources available in the back of the teacher's manual for those who wish to expand upon the concepts introduced in the books.

I heartily endorse the use of these books by educators of children in grades K through 5.

Reading the Science Spiders books is like going to the dentist. So why did I rate the books so highly? I have a very good dentist. He's friendly, interesting, and before we're finished with the small talk, he's finished with the injection. The worst part of going to the dentist is over before I know it's happening. The Science Spider books are simple, playful stories about a patient, scientifically inclined mom and her young children. The readers don't realize they're learning science until after it happens. My jaw gets numb just thinking about it. There's no math, but readers of all ages become familiar with chemical reactions, color theory, acids, bases, forces, energy, molecules, scientific method, air pressure, and center of gravity. The lucky children who are introduced to science by the Science Spiders will have a positive feeling for the subject that can only help them in future studies. Dr. Kain has a Ph.D in materials science and engineering. She barely conceals her identity in the books as "Mom." Mom is an excellent role model for all children, but especially girls. She and her kitchen experiments prove that science is very much woman's work. And apparently, so is dentistry.

This book is a one stop shop for Chemists wanting to be familiar with the essentials of Pharmacology. Cannon also adopts the same perspective, always giving stress on the chemical basis of the action of drugs, as well as neurotransmitters, hormones and intracellular signalling molecules. The first part of the book deals with general principles, which Cannon beautifully explains in a nutshell. Topics include the blood-brain barrier, drug receptors, pharmacological assays, metabolic inactivation and modifications of drugs by organs, basic pharmacokinetics, and properties of membranes and cells. The latter part is focused on particular systems. It is especially in discussing the Central Nervous System that the book really shines. Cannon talks in detail about the neurochemistry and physiological action of several important neurotransmitters and their agonists & antagonists. He also discusses the most important diseases arising from malfunctioning of the CNS. The chemistry of addiction also receives due exaplanation. Later chapters include discussions of cardiovascular drugs and drugs which are used to treat Asthma and Allergies.
Pharmacology is a vast science, and it not possible for a utilitarian chemist to work through the grand tomes on the subject to get what he wants. Cannon's book largely remedies this situation, and provides him with the essentials, without overloading him with information. This slim volume is a must on the shelves of Medicinal Chemists, Biochemists and any professional working in, or interested in Drug Design.

Reading this book is much easier after taking the author's course. You get a better feeling for how the book is laid out after listening to the author's lecture style. An organic chemist by training, the author naturally gears this book to the organic chemist. He gives just enough physiology to understand the pharmacology behind it. The book follows his lecture course fairly well with more in-depth discussion on topics of interest. A standard reference text that should be in any chemists' library starting out in the pharmaceutical field.

This book is one of the most excellent texts of it's kind. While providing sound and applicable information for the professional, it also is infinately readable for self help. Dr. Cross is amazingly generous with his information. His writing style in interesting and clear. As someone who has studied a wide range of alternative medical practices, I really appreciate Dr. Cross's ability to boil down huge amounts of information into very practical and usable applications. All of his books are a must for someone seriously interested in bringing the maximum to their health care practice.

This is a general chemistry book, but has a specialized viewpoint. Instead of considering chemistry as a field all its own with a series of experiments to teach the student chemistry, this book is oriented into chapters that have a particular orientation. Examples include: electrochemistry, solid state chemistry, corrosion and control, fuels and combustion, water treatment and so on. In each of these areas, it is only possible to provide a basic introduction. Any of the specialized chapters could and does have a book, or a whole bookshelf dedicated to that subject alone. This approach is excellent in that it gives the student a glimpse into each area==While the book could be used as a first course in chemistry, I think the student would get more out of it if he had at least a basic 'Introduction to Chemistry' first. There is also a modest amount of math in the book, so having had a course in calculus would also help in understanding what is being taught.

Overall an excellent book.

This is an amazing text for those looking for an advanced treatise to transport phenomena.

Transport Phenomena is a traditionally hard-subject in every curriculum related to unit operations in chemical engineering. Its difficult because of its mathematical basis, and moreover, by the lack of practical insight. The appendices and first chapters depicts the major mathematical foundations. Separated subjects (momentum, energy and mass transfer) makes easy to the reader just getting what he needs. Focusing on problem solving, shows the way previous knowledge integrates a new approach: governing laws, math techniques, effects of geometry and scale, time dependent processes and averaging techniques. definitely, this book is an obliged read to whom really likes engineering.

"Advanced Wood Adhesives Technology" is a bible for some people who are engaged in wood adhesive and wood based panel. The book involves most kinds of resins that are used in wood industry. A. Pizzi's book is divided into eight sections and Urea Formaldehyde, Melamine Formaldehyde, Phenol Resin, Resorcinol Adhesive, Diisocyanate adhesive, Tannin and Lignin Based Wood adhesives are described respectively. Some of contents of the book are from author's researching results and experimental experience. It is very worth while reading Professor A. Pazzi's book.
