Just like the Whitman coin folders from when I was a child, good quality, fair price. Excellent option to hold a modest collection in the building stage, until you're ready to move your collection to a better quality folder such as Dansco.

My version of this coin book for nickels (circa 1968) was so badly worn that I couldn't open it without the coins falling out. This makes a great gift for your children. Have them look through the coins in their piggy banks and keep the best. Then take the rest to the bank and ask to exchange them for new rolls of coins. (Be sure to ask the bank for some paper coin wrappers for your next trip back.) It is exciting for the kids to get a new roll to go through each week.

When I started to work for The Alta Group I needed to get more knowledge about leasing in Latin America, so I tried via google and others to compile as much as possible, but there was not so much on the internet as expected. Therefore I asked my boss for what would make a good source, and he recommended this book. Due the price, I decided to give it more time to my investigations. However after a couple of weeks I decided to buy it. This was the BEST investment I have done! Not only I could learn a lot from this book, but I also have use it already 3 times since then for work for our clients. I really recommend it, it was my one stop all in one information!

The Memory Jogger is the ideal handbook for improving job-related procedures, systems, quality, and costs on a daily basis. It conveniently presents the tools in two categories: problem identification tools, and problem analysis tools. It also offers a technnique selection guide according to task. Each tools is presented along with three examples: manufacturing, service/administration, and daily-life situations. It is a very, very useful quick reference guide.

However, the upgraded version, "The Memory Jogger II", has been available for quite some time now, and would be a wiser choice.

Power User in Tables

Until you work with this Tables course and quick reference cards, you probably won't realize the hidden power in using Word tables. This course shows you how in an easy way. I'm a Technical Documentation Specialist who has had to design Sarbanes-Oxley process documents in an IT environment. Understanding how to control content within a table is invaluable. You can create side head labels in margins (like FrameMaker does) that are really just table cells without borders. Do you understand the difference between borders and gridlines? Get this package. It is awesome. It includes a great blurb on Styles, yes styles! Do you want to place graphics so they don't float? Put 'em in a table cell. Design-Write has designed the most comprehensive QRCs and tables course I've ever seen.

I think that I am becoming hooked on these Quick Reference Cards. I bought two other sets earlier and loved them so much that I decided to see what other Cards Design-Write Solutions has put out. I found this "Insert and Work with Tables in Microsoft Office Word 2003" package and was as delighted with the quality of information found there. I use Word 2007 at work and Word 2003 at home for my home based business. I thought of myself as an advanced user of Word 2003. I have used it regularly to create grant proposals, set up budget structures and etc. which usually includes lots of charts, pictures and etc. I didn't use tables much because they always seemed so cumbersome to set up. Through the simple-to-use course, short cut key card and the Quick Reference Card, I was able to learn some new tricks, to use tables to really sharpen and clean up the documents that I make, that have lots of information that needs to be categorized. The use of the tables function in Word has really helped me to give my proposals a clean and organized look that helps them to really stand out.

An Aging Classic

The Whole Earth Catalog was an revolution when it was first published around 1970. This latest book, now out nearly 5 years, continues the tradition but I wonder if it represents the last of its kind due to the explosion of new knowledge is the past decade and the rise of the Internet as a source of general and specific information on any topic imaginable. The fact that no one else has reviewed it on Amazon as I write this seems to indicate the shift of interest from this excellent resource to other more immediate or specific sources of information.

But in the final analysis, I think everyone should have and use the WEC as it represents and contains the seeds of this information explosion and, though the references it contains may become dated, the ideas, inspiration and permanence it provides are valuable in this day of instant changes.

Perhaps the point of such books is simply to inspire us to change. When I first read the Whole Earth Catalog, and The Whole Earth Epilog (?)I was looking for something.

Thirty years later I am on a different path, leading who knows where.

It wasn't the information in those books that changed me.It was the message that change was possible, and highly probable.

That message I read between the lines, not from the sentences.

I was looking for a good book to learn concepts on patent-searching, and this book--after a long search--satisfied my need. This book explains theoretical concepts behind patent searching and analytics, tells how to extract ideas from forward and backward citation, and pros-and-cons of online databases. I have read some books from NOLO, but they teach about online tools only, and such tools are obsolete by the time of finishing reading the book. This is the only book to go for as of March 2008.

Well-organized, well written, useful book

I bought this book on a whim, thinking that as an experienced patent searcher for over 10 years, it wouldn't teach me anything. I WAS WRONG! This book is very well organized and will be useful to the novice as well as the experiences searcher. I actually learned a number of useful techniques and tools and am recommending this book to my colleagues. Finally, a book that has pertinent complex information in one place for easy reference. Mr. Hunt is to be congratulated for his unambiguous writing style and format. Kudos to Amazon for letting me know it was available. Thanks.

This guide is a must-have for all parents. The tools and tips are clearly explained and easy-to-understand. Most parents want to be more effective, and to build healthy relationships with their children, and this book is amazing in presenting ways to address the various challenges faced by parents. I've increased my awareness and understanding of why my children do certain things and how to effectively communicate with them. Way impressive! I plan to give this book as a gift to those closest to me that care for children. Bravo!

I used the information right away with my teenager AND my husband. Yes, the information works with children, but it also works with all people. The Seven Healthy Hats of Communication and Active Listening are two chapters or tools that make the book a great purchase. The more I use it, the more I like it. I am recommending this to everyone I know, not just parents.

Among other subjects, I teach Pro Tools at a large urban university. Most of the Pro Tools books are too specialized, too complex, too badly organized or contain too many typos to be very useful for teaching the basics. This one, while not perfect, is really quite good. With this book and a copy of Pro Tools, one should be able to learn the basics without a teacher and without too much learning curve pain. At the price, which includes a learning CD, it is highly recommended

This is an excellent source for the collector of antique sewing implements. Full color illustrations of all priced objects make it easy to identify and place a value on pincushions, needlecases, thimbles and more. Not much text but price guides are generally short on text. If a price guide is what you want, I recommend this one.

Perfect system design tools for beginners
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2002-05-29
I think basically, MATLAB was designed to simulate an automated system. This automated system in a real life could be a device of electric, electronic, or mechanic. For students or someone who just begin to learn to design a system (either electrical or mechanical system; or combination of both), I think MATLAB is suitable. The program does not require a lot of "fancy stuff" that the real-life industry use. By simply using ordinary personal computer (either Mac or IBM system), you are already able to do the work.

Because MATLAB was designed for beginners in system design, MATLAB basically only supplies tools for designing a concept (an abstraction). If you need to build a blue print, I suggest that you use a more specific program.

From a concept designing point of view, I think MATLAB has an adequate tools. As a start, MATLAB has building blocks. These building blocks act as a simulation function. The blocks could appear as an abstract mathematical function or appear as a more applicable function needed in electrical or mechanical engineering system design.

MATLAB also has commands to make a simple program. These commands are usually used to be combined with MATLAB 1D, 2D, or 3D image capabilities. With these three powerfull tools, you pratically could design any system or any object.

If you need to do more complex tasks, you obviously need MATLAB's companion: Simulink. With Simulink, you will have more powerfull building blocks; beyond your imagination as a system design beginner!

Be careful when purchasing the Simulink. You need to have a Simulink version that will work properly with the MATLAB version you already have. You do not want to end up like the previous reviewer.

Frustration

I was so excited when I bought SE of Matlab5.3 together with a CD and a book for for version 5.0. I started to read the book carefully then I realized this program is nothing without simulink, I urgently bought SE of simulink2.0 from my local bookstore in istanbul. But they are not competable with each other. I either need SE of MATLAB 5.0, or SE of simulink 3.0
I hope you understood why I am frustrated. Many thanks to those who will solve this problem.
