"Fine Tools" is a classic book and this second book of a similar nature is a fitting and excellent sequel. As a certified "tool nut", I found this book as interesting and informative as the earlier volume while expanding a bit from the earlier effort. Another treasure for my library. Highly recommended.

The Author does a fine job of artistically photographing and describing a wide variety of rare tools. A veritable smorgasboard for the senses. I only wish I could reach into the photos and hold and examine the tools.

Wood Joiner's Handbook

Comprehensive, thorough and well illustrated

Many possibilities, different ways and methods of joining wood are beautifully illustrated in this book. However, so much information is provided that it can almost become confusing, depending on the person's level of expertise. Methods in making the joints are not shown, so this probably assumes a basic ability with hand or power tools.

This book can be used by all levels; from novices to professionals.

You won't regret buying this book.

After borrowing this book from the library I realized that it is so full of helpful information that I am going to buy it to have it in my small home shop. I was surprised to see only two reviews so far for this book: The writing is clear and concise; the diagrams are very helpful. The only thing that I wish for is better photography. Don't get me wrong, the photos work well to support the text but they are some times "muddy" black and white images (I'm a photographer so I tend to be picky about this sort of stuff.). I am relatively new to joinery and find this book one of the best I've read - and I've read probably close to fifty woodworking books in the past several months.
If you are new to joinery like me I think you'll find this book one of your best tools.
Have fun.

My woodworking library is growing steadily, as is my stack of woodworking magazines. This is the most useful book on joinery I have read to date. It's not the prettiest (no color photos), but I find Sam Allen's several years' experience working in a furniture repair shop to be invaluable. He has seen many failed joints and analyzed the cause of the failure, and he describes these in the book. He describes the forces that joints are subject to, and how to design for them. The book is well-organized, and the drawings of joints are very clear. I disagree with a previous reviewer that methods are not shown...actually handtool methods and machine tool methods are both shown. Probably not every method known to man (you wouldn't be able to lift the book), but I think if you can see a drawing of a joint and read a description of it, you should be able to figure out how to cut it...that's part of the enjoyment.

Mr. Wright has done a very nice job with this book. It is an excellent overview of the automotive industry and a good all-around automotive book (especially for anyone interested in the automobile). The title tells it like it is. It is obvious a lot of work went into the Snap-on Corporation history, and can be appreciated as well. I have thoroughly enjoyed this book and have made reference to it in the Snap-on Collectibles book as an excellent source for information on Snap-on's history. Mr. Wright's book makes a nice addition to any automotive or Snap-on collectors library.

I found this book very helpful. If you enjoy looking at woodworking magazines, but lack the skills to tackle those complicated projects, then this is a good book for you. The mysteries of roof angles, gates, which screws and bolts to use is explained in this simple book. Everybody with a backyard needs to look at the simple shelves and benches that can built using easily found supplies. Just a fun book to look at.

A good introductory book

This unnecessarily thick book (519pp) is about construction claims from the point of view of the contractor. It contains good basic materials on causes and management of change orders and claims. The exposition is generally clear, as is the logical structure. I knocked off one star for being too long winded and detailed in several places. For instance, the discussion on CPM is laborious and impractical. Some diagrams are also diffcult to see clearly. Overall, it is still a good book to have on your shelf.

A "Must-have" for all construction disputes professionals.

What I like about Pinnell's book is how it is written with the mind-set that "Partnering" and other cooperative processes need not be sacrificed for a contractor to get what he is entitled to.

Pinnell focusses on the contractors part of the claims process, since the burden is on the contractor to document his claim. However, designers and owners need this book because they must review, reject or approve contractor claims - many times using the same analysis methods used by the contractor to prepare the claim.

Strengths: Advocates a Partnered approach to claims. Concise review of pertinent contract law. Excellent chapter about scheduling. Distinguishes small claim methods from large, complex claim processes.

Pinnell takes you through even the most complex of construction claim processes concisely and with clarity.

Knives, Swords, and Blades

The concept of a price "value" guide is humorous in today's internet era....
I wouldn't use this book to get an EXACT value of a knife
(that is impossible anyways)
But..You can use the figures to roughly estimate which knives are of more collector value and which ones are run of the mill $.89 Imperial Jackmasters

The book as advertised provides a wide assortment of pre-made medical forms and surveys useful in daily practice. Of true value were the assortment of pediatric wellness sheets. The forms are generally modifiable for personal use, however, the PDF files were difficult to work around. The fixed, non-modifiable aspects of spacing and headings became an issue for some forms. This was a time saver for starting up an initial low budget practice that cannot afford an electronic medical record.

Wow! This is a MUST HAVE for any Nurse Practitioner!

I waited patiently for this book for a long time and it's been well worth the wait. The author has done an amazing service to NP's around the country who have exclaimed to themselves, "I know there's a form/questionnaire/tool, etc. for this but if I could only remember where or put my fingers on it!" NOW YOU CAN! None of the forms in any of my settings can measure up to these ones with the unique NP focus on teaching, health and addressing all the facets of a thorough exam. I especially love the well woman and well child forms. ANd the customizable CD makes it even better! I can't say enough but this is a must for any NP's library and I'm amazed at the depth and breadth of info composed by one author.

Astounding Diversity of the Art of Sculpting

The Sculpture Reference by Arthur Williams is a phenomenal achievement. An enjoyable and educational book that I find quite inspiring. Living, contemporary, working - sculptors; what an excellent set of criteria for the inclusion of the over 280 artist whose work is displayed in the over 1,100 color images within this hefty 512 page book.

The quality of the photography is excellent in every case. The alphabetical structure of the work lends a nice rhythm between materials, techniques and the results that can be achieved with them, in another words it is a good read for the serious sculptor.

The most impressive aspect is his selection of unique sculpts; the diversity of which is almost unbelievable. This handsome book already has a few scares from knocking around my studio. Almost every person that has opened it has ended up going from page one to the back cover one page at a time. Most of these people not sculptors mind you, just everyday Jane and Joes that are drawn in. I have many instructional videos and books on sculpting and sculpture, but this one book could replace half of them as an effective educational tool.

No Sculptor Should Be Without This Reference

This hefty volume is an indispensable addition to any sculptor's reference shelf. With what seems like over a hundred fascinating color photos of sculptors at work, work in progress in all sculpting media, excellent finished pieces, this book is a joy to have. As a sculptor and art educator, I have accumulated an extensive library of books in this area. This is one that I had to squeeze into its rightful place on my most used shelf. Whether you are starting out or are a professional sculptor, you'll want to own this volume. And don't loan it out to just anyone, if you want to see it again!

I used segments of this book as a camp director of a Boy Scout summer camp. This was enormously useful, practical, and insightful. I have also had the opportunity to see Michael Brandwein train on how to do training. He knows what he is talking about, and has condensed a great deal of wisdom in this book. If you are serious about training and energizing your staff, this is a must have book.
