The scope of this majestic book truly befits the epic effort by James Cameron with his cinematic masterpiece "Titanic". Much great information here for the movie buff who likes to see how it is done. Incredible sets including the dining salon, complete even to dishes and decor. I was amazed to see how this particular set was pulled underwater by hydraulics to provide a very realistic feeling of sinking. Page after page of photographs and stories about the magnificent sets that brought this film to life. Lots of info about the stars and other cast members as well the production crew. This book is a perfect companion to the movie as well as a testament to the filmmaking genius of James Cameron.

Jeanne Carley clearly loves ferrets, as is evidenced by her awesome photography. If you love ferrets, you'll love the cute and lovable pictures in this calender. To make it even better, this year's theme is musical, making a music lover like me ecstatic. I can't wait to get to the next month to see the next picture! Having this calendar up at work also sparked interest among my co-workers about ferrets and gives me an opportunity to talk about my fuzzies. It's a shame that the Governator forgot his Kindergarten Cop days and lets misnomers about this wonderful pet rule his governorship. Once again, 3 cheers for Jeanne and her work!

The Ferret Calendar is my absolute favorite calendar of all. The photographs are outstanding! As I have had many ferrets over the years, and I'm an avid photographer myself, I know how hard it is to photograph them. Jeanne Carley does a wonderful job of portraying the ferret in such positive ways. Though there are other ferret calendars out there, I feel that this one is the best of all of them. Thank you Jeanne!! Please continue to produce this calendar as I am a customer for life!!

It reminds us of our very own babies. How anyone could give a bad review on these calandars cann't be a Ferret Owner or lover. Jeanne please keep up the great work, we have kept every one since at least 1995, and look at them often.

If You Give A Mouse A Cookie
By Laura Joffe Numeroff
Illustrated by Felicia Bond

"If you give a mouse a cookie, he's going to ask for a glass of milk."

One thing leads to another in this cute picture book. When you get finished with all of the mouse's requests, he may just want another glass of milk. And we all know what goes well with milk.

I really wanted this book to catch on with my two sons during our bedtime reading. I liked the concept of showing that one action creates another and another. However, the book didn't work and here's why:

1. The narrator doesn't have a voice. Put this against "Green Eggs and Ham" where you've got two distinct voices playing off each other or "Monster at the End of this Book" where Grover's voice goes from whisper to yelling and finally back down to a whimper. This book doesn't help bedtime readers. I might as well have read a motorcycle manual.

2. The story wears on you just as the mouse wears on the boy. I thought it was telling that near the end of the book, the boy in the story falls asleep in a rocking chair. The actions didn't get sillier or funnier or more intesting; there was just one right after another.

3. What the mouse does beyond eating a cookie isn't neither creative nor interesting. For a small character in a big world, choose instead the classic "Jack in the Beanstalk" or a mouse with character, "Stuart Little."

In summary, I give it 2 out of 5 stars. This might make a good early reader book but forget about adding it to your bedtime reading collection.

We had to buy it after we read it in the library :)

And it's still a favorite around here two years later!

It amazes me that this book is almost as old as I am, is of course considered a very popular classic, and yet - I never read it until I was an adult!

Given its age, I'm sure everybody *else* here knows the plot, but just in case, this is a book about a (very logical, I'm sure) series of misadventures that happens after you give something to a mouse. Every request leads to another thing, and another, and another, until the poor boy in the story falls dead asleep.

This book is too cute, and it's funny, too, in a way that both adults and kids will appreciate.

Plus, it's short, which is great for those "Oh dear, go to BED already!" kind of nights!

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie is a modern classic, beloved by children everywhere. It is also a book that teaches about sequential action and consequence. For example, if you give a mouse a cookie, he is going to ask for a glass of milk. If you give him a glass of milk, he will probably ask for straw. As the book continues, the drink leads to a napkin, which leads to a mirror (to check for a milk mustache), which leads to a haircut, which leads to cleaning up, etc., and so forth. The tale eventually comes full circle, with thirst leading to a glass of milk, which leads back to giving a mouse a cookie. And of course, if you give a mouse a cookie...

My three year old and I love reading this together at bedtime. I start the sentence on each page ("If you give a mouse an xxxx...), and she shouts out the end of the sentence (",...he is going to xxxx."). The result is lots of giggles which are very nice right before bedtime.

This fun, entertaining book is beautifully illustrated with rich, detailed, colorful drawings. I highly recommend this book for small children and beginning readers, and I guarantee that it will quickly become a family favorite.

This book is a daily reminder that healing takes time, but it does happen.
I start my day and end my day by reading the meditation of the day and it is very uplifting, practical and very easy to relate to when one is in the process of healing and grieving after the loss of a loved one. I gave it to our daughter and she found it to be just what she needed to help her with her healing and grieving.

Healing after Loss: Daily Meditations for Working Through Grief by Martha Whitmore Hickman is very helpful after the death of a loved one. The author has experienced the loss of her daughter. My father died. Even though I feel that Martha's loss must be so much more difficult than mine, the comforting words and the thought for each day helped me to understand that grief may be experienced in many ways and it must be worked through in an individual way. I bought several copies to give to others when they experience loss.
Although there is some reference to religion, the over-riding message is comfort.

Earlier this year my 43 year old daughter died unexpectedly of liver failure and I was searching for encouraging, inspirational support of my grief. Turning to Amazon I found several reviews that sounded promising and the free shipping on the order made me consider "Healing After Loss" as an add on under the listing of "People Who Bought....Also Bought...".
This small book has become the single most helpful tool in my journey through grief. The author unexpectedly lost her teenaged daughter and offers a unique perspective on the deep bond between mother and daughter without being overtly maudlin or "religious". However, the book is appropriate for anyone experiencing loss, not only of a child but also of a spouse or other loved one and certainly for professionals involved with the bereavement process.

I use this every morning along with another book by Joyce Meyers called "The Secret Of Speaking God's Word". It is amazing that no matter what day it is the message always seems to speak to something going on in my life during that time. It allows me to better identify certain area(s) I want to focus my prayer and meditation on. Joyce Meyers book give specific scriptures outlined by subject, "Fear, Anxeity, Depression, Hope, etc. . ."

I have purchased at least 6 copies of this book in the past three months because I have friends I knew would benefit and enjoy them as I do.

God Calling is the most precious book I own next to the very Word of God, the Bible! Those with the Spirit of God living in them will easily recognize that it IS truly Jesus talking to you! Every day is a profound message and worth going back several times per day to reread.

This particular edition - I have purchased several for gifts - is soft gold leather and has space for journaling and gives daily scripture too. It is extremely rich looking and makes a special intimate gift for a friend. I would be lost without this book to give me encouragement and peace!

I've ordered multiple copies of this book on three occasions, and will probably reorder more. This is a book with more than the typical daily devotion ... it has meat and it has substance. It is a great light to follow during your day and it contains plenty of 'food for thought'. I received my first copy of this devotional from one of my pastors and have shared 8 copies with other people in my life who need/want God's guidance in their lives. It's very easy to share; it's an excellent book. I keep mine at my office desk and read it every morning to start the work day.

Read this book if you have experienced the grief from losing a loved one physically as in my case or you are broken from a life circumstance. This book along with the word of God will uplift you and see you through those difficult days when again your tears seem to be the only medicine for your heart. I love that each day starts off with a scripture. I usually will read the scripture then look it up in my bible and do a small study on the scripture. I will then read the devotion for that day. This book and Oswald Chambers devotional book is what I read daily. I recommend it for anyone who has walked down the road of losing a child, parent or sibling. It also makes a great gift for someone facing cancer or for the single mom who is struggling to makes ends meet and feels hopeless. Whoever you are and wherever you are you will be blessed by the golden pages and by the sweet quiet whisper of Gods spirit revealed in the writing of this book.

Poison

Review Date: 2008-06-16
Don't buy this and dont read it. If you put small amounts of poison in your food, over time it will kill you. This book has lies, scripture out of context and a God who is like an abusive father who beats children to teach them. This has to be the worst "Christian" labeled book I have encountered in 25 years. Heres a quote that shocked me from Sept 30 / page 369. "Our Almighty God is like a parent who delights in leading the tender children in His care to the very edge of a precipice and then shoving them off the cliff into nothing but air."
My Almighty God is not like that at all, and neither is my Jesus. There are many such statements and quotes throughout this work to render it with the label of "poisoned bread". It will destroy your faith or seriously distort it over time and bring ruin to your relationship with God. It even makes reference to Jesus being our Elder Brother! I was LDS at one time and that is a big lie. We are Gods creations and handiwork, Jesus was God the creator incarnate. We do not have his nature, and we are adopted. I am considering burning this to keep warm on a winter night instead of giving it to someone and spreading spiritual sickness. Best advise I can give is read the Bible. Try the Gospels, Psalms, Proverbs,or Pauls letters. Why settle for trash when you can have treasure. Test all things...Don't be decieved...If any of you lacks wisdom, ask God.

Someone gave me Sandra Boynton's Family Calendar several years ago as a gift. It was so useful that I buy it every year and I've also given it to my friends as a gift. There are only four of us, but it is large enough to keep the schedules for a family of five. It is vertical so every family member has a box for each day of the week/month. It comes with pre-printed stickers, like "concert", "dentist", "doctor" so that you can easily tag your days. I could use more tags so I purchased another set, but otherwise this calendar is a lifesaver. Everyone can clearly see what is going on and when!

I love this calendar more than any I've ever had. It takes some getting used to at first because you read the calendar vertically rather than horizontally. But other than that, it's perfect in every way. The stickers are really cute and add some pizazz to my scribbly mess. My life stays organized at a glance. It the first thing I look at when I come down to the kitchen in the morning.

I highly recommend this item to anyone looking for a easy way to get your family organized.

Words can't describe how usefull this has been for my family. We have 4 people in our household so the unused 5th column gets to be the Birthday notice - again, super useful. The stickers were ok, but not necessary. In a busy household with 2 realtors, 1 teenage girl who is vety involved in school and 1 old man with lots of doctor's appointments, this calender has been FANTASTIC. I'm going to recommend this to all my friends.

I so want to find a way to contact Sara Young and tell her the great ministry she has opened up here in Colorado. I have friends and friends of friends who are sharing this book with friends and family. No matter if they are facing cancer struggles, griefs of one sort or another, searching for meaning and purpose, enJOYing their days - this book speaks to the heart of the matter... that Jesus Christ desires a personal and intimate relationship one on one with each of us. What a powerful message. Thank you Sara Young. I encourage you to get 1 or 10 or more and share with your loved ones.

It can be difficult to find a large calendar for a busy family with four children. I spend each December at the stores hoping to find the perfect blend of spaces for people with boxes big enough to write out their daily activities. This year I thought I'd try the Sandra Boynton calendar and am glad I did. With a space for each day, INCLUDING Saturday and Sunday and columns for four children it has been a perfect fit for us. So perfect, in fact, that I hope they are planning to do one exactly the same for 2009. If so, I'll continue to use this until we add another member to the family.

Greatest family calendar out there! Helps keep us organized and teaches the kids to track the calendar. Fits on kitchen wall. All you need to keep everyone knowing where they're supposed to be any given day.

Disappointed - will not buy again - not enough space

I bought the 2008 calendar based on other reviews and I was disappointed. We have 2 young kids, but even with their activities (and mom's & dad's), the vertical column set-up leaves really small squares to write a few basic words. The stickers are cute but there's no room to put them because the squares are so small - and there weren't that many "sports" stickers suprisingly. Plus, I don't know if you're supposed to use a special pen with the glossy paper, but if you use a regular ballpoint, the impressions bleed onto the next page. The monthly pictures are cute because we really like the Boynton books, but other than that, I'm sorry to say that I'm going to look for a different calendar.

This calendar is a godsend!

With the vertical arrangement of the month and numbers/ boxes that are large enough to be read from accross the room, this calendar is perfect for me. No more missed dental appointments and forgotten birthdays. The kids love using the enclosed stickers to decorate special days. I do wish this calendar came with a pocket or an easy way to attach important items for a month (tickets, coupons, etc.)

Handy organization tool

Love this product, it is so handy at keeping tabs on our busy schedule. The only drawback, I can see, is that it just fits our family size and we don't have a big family. If we had one more child, we would run out of spaces.
