I think that Nancy and Frank should dump their boyfriends and girlfriends and stay together. I mean they are obviosly perfect for each other. The best parts are when they almost kiss. But when they kiss, that was good too!!! This is the best book ever!!!

i loved this book a lot. BEsides the nancy and frank aspect, there was a lot of action, bombs, knives, terrorsits etc..of course the nancy frank thing convinced me to buy the book, but i enjoyed the mystery a lot too. I also likes how nancy is portrayed in this book, not like in Operation titanic or royal revenge, she is very clever. also Unlke all other super mysteries, Frank's thoughts and feelings are portrayed deeper than all other characthers. And there are some funnny things and comments going on between the brothers.

Hey,this is a pretty great book!Even though some people like the idea of a Nancy/Frank thing,I think its sweet that Ned cares about Nancy. I mean now-a-days,all guys are players.Where else can you find a guy who cares about you and doesn"t cheat?Answer rhat question.Anyway , even though I like the Nancy/Ned thing, there was a lot of romace in this book! Not just between Nancy and Frank. This is a definetly must read book!

This is a great book!!! What is with the whole "I'm sorry Nancy but I'm in love with Callie I feel terrible about kissing you,'Thats alright Frank me too I'm in love with Ned" thing Frank and Nancy are meant to be!!!!! They are so not being true to themselves. Nancy admits that she is attracted to Frank practicly in everybook and in a question of guilt Frank proves that he is jealous of nancy going off with other men!!!! Anyway a good read as useual totally recorrmend!!!!

I think this is the best Nancy Drew & Hardy Boys Supermystery of all. I finally was able to locate it in December. I have been wanting to read it for years, but I never could find it. It has an interesting plot intertwined with just enough romance that it's not too mushy.
I agree with the other readers, Ned should have been left out. Carolyn Keene should definately write a series without Ned and Callie. Frank and Nancy are meant to be.

Bought this for my daughter who is entering third grade. Personally I am thrilled she is reading books I read. She is borrowing from the library but she received the first few from an aunt and we have purchased what she can't find to borrow.
Well written with an appropriate sense of humor for her age level. As a teacher I'd say they are probably appropriate for grades 3 through 6 or 7th grade dependent on their reading level.

Applewood Books has turned back the hands of time and given back Nancy Drew to readers. Faithfully restored to its original form, word for word, this is the real Nancy. These beautifully reproduced hardback editions are not condensed, rewritten or updated. This is the Nancy Drew of the 1930's, her blonde bob and 30's style dress shown on the facimile of the original dust jacket, conjuring up images and phrases from the enchanted America of yesteryear.
While it is still a book designed for youthful readers, there is a bit more depth here in the originals, and not a small dose of nostalgia when read today. You can almost see the Coke sign outside the River Heights Theatre showing the latest Nancy Carroll picture, as Nancy goes whizzing past in hot pursuit of a clue.
"The Sign of the Twisted Candles" remains one of the best in the series conceived by Edward Stratemeyer, creator of The Hardy Boys. A ghostwriter from Iowa named Mildred Wirt fleshed out his story outlines and "Carolyn Keene" was born. When he died in 1930, his daughter Harriet continued to oversee his company and in 1933 "The Sign of the Twisted Candles," the ninth book in the popular series, was published. A warm and affectionate introduction by mystery writer Carolyn G. Hart is the only addition or deviation from how it first appeared in this lovely edition.
Nancy and her pals George and Bess are caught in a rainstorm and seek shelter at The Sign of the Twisted Candles. Nancy befriends a young orphan named Sadie and finds danger and mystery lurking at the Twisted Candles, of course. The plot revolves around Asa Sydney and his will, and a family fued which will cause George and Bess to desert Nancy for a time until a lesson about loyalty is learned. Nancy's father, famous lawyer Carson Drew, gets involved on behalf of his daughter, and Hannah Gruen, the Drew's houskeeper and mother-figure to Nancy, is present here as well.
Buried secrets and an attempt to run Nancy off the road offer plenty of action unmarred by today's brand of violence for readers. An exciting and heartfelt conclusion punctuates a wholesome mystery which provides a role model even today. These beautiful Applewood editions stand head and shoulders above the others as they help young readers discover Nancy in a romantically nostalgic past. It is a past more innocent to be sure, filled with ice cream parlors and roadsters, five cent Saturday mornings at the movies watching our favorite serial adventure and, of course, Nancy Drew.
Young readers will discover a new friend to rush home to after class and the joy of losing yourself in a book with this edition. Older readers who either read them in their own youth or bought them for their children all the time will heave a wistful sigh for a time long gone in America's past.

I loved this book! I have about 26 other nancy drew books, but this one was one of my favorites! it made you keep saying, "okay, my eyes are getting REALLY tired, I have to stop." at 1:00 in the morning, but you end up reading another 4 cahpters. THe book is about a 100 year old man, named Asa Sidney, who lives in an old mansion which his realatives have turned into a resturaunt and inn. The mansion is really Asa Sidney's but because it is a inn, now, his realatives keep him in the small tower, and have told him that if her went down the steps he would fall, so,he satys up there all the time. He used to be a candle-maker and he got lots of money from some of his invetions with candles. His family had been fueding,on who got his money when he died. His wife's side of the family wanted his money, and the same with his side. His neice, Carol, was his only friend, Carol would sneak up to the tower every once in a while to visit with him. THen, one day, when he got ill, he had Nancy's father draw up a will for him, and Mr. Sidney told Nancy and Carol to start searching for THE SIGN OG THE TWISTED CANDLE, any where they went, he said that where ever a twisted candle, or a picture of a twisted candle was, there would be something very valuable. But the next day, he died and when they read the will.......... well, you'll just have to see for yourself. BUY IT!!!!!!!!!!!

i really loved this book.there were some sad and exiting parts in this suspenceful book.nancy goes to the sign of the twisted candles inn where rumors are heard that asa sidney, bess's and george's relative is being held prisinor in his own mansion.this is true and when nancy meets carol wipple, who lives in the inn with her foster parents.thats when asa sidney seeks mr.drew to come to the inn to make a will for him.on the way out of the tower room nancy looks out the window to see frank jemmit, carols foster dad burring a chest.but nancy is sure she saw the chest the other day in asa sidneys tower room.is frank jemmit and emma jemmit being dishonest to carol and asa sidney?in mr.sidney's will he leaves alot to carol, but why??find out in this exiting mystery.oh and the most exiting part to me is the 19 chapter where nancy climbs up a ladder to the tower room to see if emma and frank are taking hiding in there.

Double Crossing is a great book! I'd recommend this to whoever loves mystery. This book is mainly about Nancy Drew who is on vacation on the S.S Duchess and meets her friend George aboard the ship. She bumps into Frank Hardy (or the so called photographer of the ship) and Joe Hardy (the so called waiter who works in the kitchen of the ship). They are both under cover because Captain Helgesan (I think that's what his name was) found out that there was a thief on the ship and so he hired them to track the thief down. Meanwhile... Nancy overhears a couple of people talking about CIA agents and so forth.
Every single time! To a true fan this is a great book!!!!!!!

When my mum told that there was a Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys series where they actually were in the same book, I was really excited! I was so desperate just to get hold of a tiny snipit of atleast one of these supermysteries! I managed to get hold of a load of the first chapters. AND IN PRACTICALLY EVERYONE i read where Nancy and the boys meet at the beginning is a small paragraph near the top on how Nancy can't be with Frank (even though it is obvious to us fans that they are MADE for each other!!!!!!!)because she has Ned and Frank has Callie. This is pure torture to people who desperately want these to young people to be together!!!!!!!!! Anyway I read this book and it was great as usual!!! Another fantastic book from a fantastic author! I totally recommend it to anyone who has good taste in books! Also if you like the Nancy and Frank side of the book read 'The Last Resort' where they get trapped in a cabin and 'Screts of the Nile' which is the best book ever and nancy and Frank kiss! PLEASE ms Keene can you write atleast one last book where nancy and Frank get together!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This well-designed colorful book is a wonderful companion piece to the Nancy Drew series. My twelve-year-old neice saw this in a store and immediately loved it. I bought it from Amazon for her birthday because as always Amazon books are in perfect condition, whereas at a store they were not, especially because of the nature of this book. This book has many little windows to open, ribbons to untie, and papers to take out of pockets. It is nice because it makes the reader feel like they are actively participating in the mysteries. Each two page spread covers one of the Nancy Drew books and shows the book it covers in the top left corner. It's nice for the reader to remember the story while they look at the book inserts. I wish they had this book when I was a kid reading Nancy Drew!

I am a 7th grade Reading teacher, and I found lesson plans using this book for comparing/contrasting. I ordered the book without seeing it. When it arrived, I realized it wouldn't work for the classroom. It has lots of fold-outs, pockets with letters in them, etc. It is not something you can really copy, which makes it hard to use in a classroom with 20 kids.
It is a really cool book, and I would recommend it for anyone with a young girl. There is tons to look at, and it is cool to compare and contrast her mysteries over the years.

I'm a 37 year old mother of one and a long-time fan of Nancy Drew. I remember my mother taking me to used bookstores so I could buy inexpensive books back when I was 8 years old and I happened to stumble upon some Nancy Drew hardbacks. The love affair has never ended! I love all the original titles and this book is the icing on the cake. It is beautifully bound and contains anecdotes of Nancy Drew's sleuthing adventures, in the form of journal entries. This is spiced up with beautiful illustrations of the front cover of Nancy's earlier adventures, i.e. The Secret of the Old Clock, The Hidden Staircase, The Mystery at Lilac Inn, The Clue in the Diary, The Clue of the Broken Locket, The Secret in the Old Attic, The Ghost of Blackwood Hall, The Mystery at the Ski Jump, The Scarlet Slipper Mystery, The Mystery of the 99 Steps, The Invisible Intruder, The Strange Message in the Parchment, and The Thirteenth Pearl. Also, there are little 'treasures' to unearth such as ticket stubs, letters, maps, etc. There is also a special page that focusses on Nancy Drew through the decades - how her fashion changed over time and at the end of the book is an envelope containing 13 collectible postcards of the covers of the earlier books.
All in all, this is a wonderful book for young and old fans alike. Also, a great companion book to this for older readers] would be Girl Sleuth: Nancy Drew and the Women Who Created Her by Melanie Rehak.Highly recommended.

Don't be fooled by the petite size and cuteness of this collection of quotes from America's #1 spunky female detective! When I read these books all those years ago, never did I realize that Nancy Drew's philosophy packed an amazing punch.
"Making thugs turn on each other is always a delicious thing to watch," advises Nancy in The Whispering Statue. Well I'll be darned if that's not the same philosophy of The Art of War by Sun Tzu!
The wonderfully nostalgic illustrations in Nancy Drew's Guide To Life make this book a winner. Kids will like it, but adults will love it!
Great book for modern girls!

Nancy Drew's Guide to Life is a fun "in purse" sized book for girls to take with them for "those moments" when they need Mom or Aunt Sally and neither is around to give advice! Although many of the "Nancy" books were written either before or shortly after I was born (I'm a grandmother with preteen granddaughters), they are extremely "modern" in spirit and contain sensible, clever, and classy ideas for girls to learn adult behavior and good manners, which seem to be disappearing in this internet, i-pod, text message world! It also gives readers interesting quotes to excite them about reading more of Nancy's tales. My granddaughters may need to write a "literature" paper for school, and this book and M. Rehak's "Girl Sleuth" would make good research sources!

If this wasn't written with tongue in check, then I misinterpreted a lot of these little "guides". Some were a bit outdated, but hey, that just part of the entertainment of this mini book.

I was a little disappointed by the book - when the reviews said small book, I thought they meant not many pages - but this really is small about 3 x 4 inches.
Some of the lines are funny but I thought they would be more relateable to real life rather than just being silly comments about situations from the book.

I got this book for my birthday, and then found out that I am not the only woman who has read 50 odd Nancy Drew books. . .my daughter, my students, my neighbors all confess . . . everyone loves Nancy Drew, and consequently, loves this book.
We've set up a "Detective Cabinet" with spy-glasses and flashlights so that we can solve such common dilemmas as "The Mystery of the Missing House Keys" and "The Secret of the Laundry Room", now that we've been reminded of how problems are solved in River Heights.
This book is sheer inspiration . . . a MUST read.

I grew up fascinated by the Hardy Boys series and on occasion I read a book in one of either the Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew series'. I find it fascinating to compare the plot structure and social and historical context between the books over time.
This book is thoroughly modern; Nancy and her friends George and Bess travel to the U. S. Virgin Islands. While there a boy rock band arrives to film a video and suddenly there is danger. There is dissension in the group but that does not appear to be enough to motivate the incidents of attempted murder. Nancy and her friends investigate and discover a crime ring smuggling people into the United States. Nancy gets too close and the ringleader kidnaps and tries to kill her. Fortunately, the resourceful Nancy manages to get free and the people in the ring are arrested by immigration agents.
While Nancy is a bit aloof from it, the girls still react like modern girls to the presence of the rock band. Also unlike the earlier episodes, when George and Bess encounter a man with a knife, they fight back rather than cowering. They kick the knife out of his hand and push him into the water.
Social change is inevitable and the differences in the Nancy Drew books over the years reflect that change. This book is one that will appeal to the modern adventurous young girl as it presents Nancy in a situation of the 1990's and she is cool, capable and determined to have fun.

If you dare to, enter Danger.com, by Jordan Cray. During this adventure on the internet, a boy tries to find out if he has a dad or a mom. He has a best friend and whose mom is his moms best friend. He finds out where the guy works that could be his father. This book is like when you get thrown upside down on a rollar coaster. You're excited and scared at the same time. It's a thrill and a chill, and you don't know how to cantain yourself for the ride. While all this is going on, he gets so into finding his dad that he and his best friend start to drift way from each other faster and faster. They have no control over their friendship. I use to be friends with a girl, but after Junior high school we drifted apart. We still see each other, but we are neighbors. He has time to make up for what he did wrong. If you like adventure, or mystery you would like this book. I recommend for people that have lots of things going and know how to juggle all them together. If you know what it's like to try and try but still not do good, then you will enjoy Danger.com.

When I think of reading, I think sleeping, yawning and boring. They make us read every single day. Their torchering us. And they say reading is good for your mind and for your health. I think bla bla bla. Get those books away from me. Groose! Now that I'm a teenager I know I need to extend my vocabulary to it's greastest point. Or I wont get any where in life. I was in the library one day looking for a book to read. I picked up a book called danger.com. It sounded interesting. I started reading it and it was an amazing book. I loved it. The best!!!

It's about this really smart 17 year old guy. He gets in trouble. Meets agirl. Thinks his moms crazy around the end of the book. Then him and his mom our very happy at the end. They have a normal life. Terrific book. I've only read 1 or maybe 2 books that i had enjoyed. But i'm glad that I liked reading it because I want to try to extend my vocabulary to it's highest point. Read it. I promise you wont fall asleep.

I just finished reading this book and I loved it. I don't want to give the whole story away, but it is about a boy who has a whole bunch of lies told to him(even by his mother) and is wanted to work for some hackers to take over the world. You think you know the story at first, but it twists around at the end and it all adds up. This is a must read for people who like mysteries and computers.

A deceased composer's music has gone missing, and his elderly father, Mr. March, approaches America's favorite spunky girl detective, Nancy Drew for help. Mr. March really needs that money now to support his granddaughter, Susan.
There's a lot of twists and turns to this story, but what really shines is Nancy. She's not only on the case, she will stop at nothing to help out people in need.
I recommend The Secret in the Old Attic as one of the best of the Carolyn Keene novels.

I read this in about one day, it may not have been exactly the most action-filled book, but it just somehow keeps me excited. It is hard to get up and use the bathroom, when you are reading this. I do think that anyone who likes Nancy Drew and Mystery should read this, it's one of the best so far that I have read.

This review concerns the original 1944 edition and the revised 1970 edition which closely follows the plot of the original, with a few small changes. Elderly Mr. March approachs Nancy seeking her help to find his deceased son's unpublished sheet music. Mr. March desperately needs the money to care for his granddaughter, Susan. Unfortunately, a thief has been secretly entering the March house and stealing whatever songs that he can find and publishing them himself. I really enjoyed this book. In my opinion, it is the second or third best of the series (I can't decide between it and The Bungalow Mystery; The Hidden Staircase is my #1). I found it to be well-written, highly descriptive, and had quite a bit of action. The climax of the book, when Nancy finally finds the music and is confronted by the thief, is perhaps the best scene of the series for its originality, excitement and suspense. The only thing that I did not like about this book, was how the thief was caught because Nancy had pretty much nothing to do with actually capturing him.

We gave this as a birthday gift to a 9 year old. She asked me for them!
She and her parents were thrilled that she received them. I loved the price also. I would have paid just as much for a CD or DVD for her. Her mother said she knew she would read them over and over.

I really like Nancy Drew books, but as I got older, I wanted more romance worked into the mystery as well. When I read Dangerous Games, that wish was granted. It's a really, really, good book, if you like a little romance and mysteries. This book is close to number 1 on my favorite list, and I hope you get the chance to read it!
