As a current Cub leader, this book is a lot of fun into the past.

The book gives a brief history of Norman Rockwell's connection with Scouting and is one of the few, if not only, complete book of all of his Boy Scout works. "Green Bar Bill" Hillcourt does an excellent job of telling the story and how Norman Rockwell told the Scouting Story. A must for all Scouter's libraries.

This is an extremely useful book for anyone interested in outdoor activities, especially camping. Beginning with organizing and planning for a trip, this book is a very complete tool for a camper. Tells you what to pack, how to select you equipment and gear such as boots, clothing, backpacks, pots and pans, cookstove, and more. It has handy pack lists so you do not forget to pack the essentials you will need.
It explains how to plan your menus and shop for nutritous camp food before you leave, And how to cook it when you get there. Next is the section on "Leave No Trace". It used to be that they recommended cutting down trees and saplngs to make all sorts of camp furniture. Nowadays the emphasis is on preserving nature so that others can enjoy it too. So the book teaches you how to use a campstove rather than scrounging wood to cook with. It explains outdoor hygiene. Next there are seperate instructions on compass, map, and GPS navigation. There is a great section on cold weather and hot weather camping, including clothing selection, emergencies such as shelter, and water collecting, as well as preserving your food in severe climates. Plenty of info is specific to backpacking. Next is sailing, canoe, kayak, and raft. The biking, horseback, ski and snowtouring, caving, fishing.

The book has regular alerts on key topics that guide you to other books, guides, or websites for expanded information including a website created in tandem with the book. They have also included a section on appreciating nature from astronomy, to bird watching, tracking, plant life, weather observation,and more. All in all a comprehensive and well written guide.

The Fieldbook is a publication by the Boy Scouts of America. It is regularly updated, so if you buy used, always confirm the publication date from the buyer to make sure it's the one you want. My oldest copy is a 1967, but I bought this new one published 2004, a complete update from the 1984 edition. I believe there are 4 editions total. I like the nostalgic artwork in the old ones and I like to seee which methods have changed over the years. Great pictures on nearly every page, as well as instructional diagrams. Tons of helpful hints and advice, that is the result of nearly 100 years of Boy Scouting. One of the most interesting changes is the inclusion of co-ed pictures. There are tons of girls in the pictures joining in the activities. Do not confuse this with the Boy Scout handbook, the Feildbook concentrates on the outdoors.

Wow, I am shocked. The number of camps in the United States is amazing. Don't limit your troop to the same boring set of camps, this book opens the door to many camps that our local councils would never be able to inform us about.

Hi, I'll be brief. I am the author of this book. Since there was no description I thought i should provide one.
This book presents information about AD/HD and strategies that adults and young people can use to better manage their attention and focus.
It is based on my personal experiences with AD/HD (Yes I have it) and the many adults and young people I have worked with, as a Scoutmaster, a Board Member of the National Attention Deficit Disorder Association, a CHADD task force member and Intervention Specialist/Special Education Teacher.
I designed this book to be easy to read and understand for the individual who does not have a background in neurology or learning disabilities. The fonts I used and the layout is designed for easier reading for Dyslexic/AD/HD folks and I used a thick cover with a ring binder which allows the book to be folded out flat. It small size allows it to be carried easily in a backpack or small bag.
Many copies of this book are currently in use in Scouting patrols and youth groups. I can be contacted for more information about AD/HD and learning disabilities [...]. I hope you find the book useful. Good luck in all your Scouting ADDventures.

This wonderful book is quite literally the ground-floor for any new Scouter, whether a new Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, or even a committee-member. It covers everything a Scoutmaster would need to run a troop - from organizing the troop, through running a troop meeting, through operating an outdoor program. Now, the book was originally intended to be used in conjunction with the Scoutmastership Fundamentals Training Course, but it is an excellent resource without the course.

Overall, I found this to be a fascinating, and very helpful resource. If you have a son who is a Scout, or is going to be a Scout, and you want to be involved, then you really should read this book. Indeed, if you intend to be active in your troop in any capacity, then you *must* read this book. I can't recommend it enough!

I was never a Scout, though my father was one. Well, now my son is a Boy Scout, and wanting to support him in that, I have become a committeeman, but what is Boy Scouting exactly? Well, I started by reading the Boy Scout and Scoutmaster Handbooks, which is a great place to start. But, there still seemed to be some big holes in my understanding. So, I have turned to the next book in line, the Troop Committee Guidebook.

This is a great book! This book has everything that a committee member needs to know, including how to run meetings, and the various committee positions. If you are a member of a Boy Scout troop committee, then I cannot recommend this book enough - you will need this book!
