It was the cruel court martial of Private Raymond Craig that topped off a climate of rebellion among the men at Fort Maxon.
Sergeant Joe Madden saw this as an opportunity to persuade Craig and five other disgruntled privates to desert with him. After
having drowned his sorrows in whiskey, Craig was too drunk to refuse when Madden offered to take him along. Madden planned
to use their military training for personal gain...they would be hired guns. Although each man had his own reasons for leaving,
Madden was counting on greed to hold his bunch of bandits together. But he was underestimating two men...Craig, who had a
conscience, and Captain Falk, for whom tracking down the Deserter Troop had become a personal vendetta...and he didn't have
a conscience.

Rene Chartrand is one of the best Napoleonic historians in the world today. He is an expert, tireless researcher, an excellent
writer, and completely reliable. This gem of a book covers a period and units that are relatively unknown to most readers
and enthusiasts, and they badly needed to be chronicled. The author has done his usual superb effort, and his filled a
void in Napoleonic scholarship. The artwork by Patrice Courcelle is accurate, believably lifelike, and little gems in themselves.
In my opinion, Osprey is lucky to have this pair turning out books for them, for they are definitely raising the bar in
this historical period. This book is a must for the historian, enthusiast, and military modeler. I highly recommend it,
and it is already well-worn constant use. Not only is it a reliable reference, but it is an interesting, lively read, jam-packed
with information.

Written by Ulysses Lee, a young black captain, from 1947-1951, Army waited 13 years until 1964 to publish and never publicized
widely. However, to its credit Army had to conclude that it simply was too good to ignore.Reissued in 1994 by the Chief of
Military History. Scholarly and beautifully written, Lee succinctly explains and documents without bitterness or rancor racism
in America, with focus on the military--letters, official documents, and photographs. Facts and arguments presented are irrefutable.
A starting point for anyone who sincerely wants to understand race in America, its heritage, and what really happened during
and between World Wars I and II. The President's Council on Race would do well to begin its deliberations with Ulysses Lee.

This book contains the favorite, traditional games we all used to play when we were little kids-like Kick the Can, Hide and
Seek, No Bears Are Out Tonight, etc. It's great to preserve the traditions and give kids active, outdoorsy things to do. We
play the games at birthday parties, family reunions and picnics, etc. Let's restore the neighborhood games and get away from
the TV!

This book was written by my grandfather. He loved history, especially military history. He lived in Florida for years and
worked as chief historian for the Florida National Guard. He wrote this book when he lived in St. Augustine Florida. He loved
writing this book. It traces the history of Florida's army of more than 400 years. It is very interesting and informative.
I recomend this book for anyone who enjoys military history or just history. This book represents what my grandfather loved
best. Enjoy!

This is one of the most important books on the Civil War that needs to be read by every student of the war. When published
in 1989, Forged introduced the United States Colored Troops to the general reading public. While books that are more detailed
would follow, notably "Like Men of War" in 1998, this remains the best introduction to the USCT published. This is a very
readable and informative book, with no agenda. The 11 chapters each cover an important part of this history. "Breaking Down
the Resistance" and "The White Man's War" set the stage with a discussion of how the Civil War was being fought and the decision
to form the USCT. "Recruiting the Officers" is a frank discussion of the decision to use White Officers, the men that volunteered
and their motivates. "Filling the Ranks", "Coping with Racism" and "Training and Discipline" cover the experience of the
Black men who filled the ranks of these regiments. Slave or free, from the North or South, they stood in the face of racism.
They preserved and prevailed over official indifference, apathy and hopes that the USCT would fail. "Proving their Valor"
and "Leaving Their Mark on the Battlefield" show how the alliance of Black soldiers and White officers worked in combat.
The USCT gained acceptance as equals on the battlefield by acts of courage and self-sacrifice that went way past what the
movie "Glory" showed. The last chapters deal with official prejudice, occupation and the lives of the men after the war.
Appendix 1 is a statistical sampling of the officers and enlisted men that gives us an idea how varied the backgrounds were.
Appendix 2 is a list of the men in the USCT, who won the Congressional Medal of Honor.
Appendix 3 is a list of black men that became officers in the Union Army.

The author, a C-46 and C-47 pilot in the Pacific theater, cautions the reader that recollections may not be perfectly accurate
after 50 years, but whatever lapses exist do no seriously detract from this useful and entertaining memoir.
Lester evokes the times well, reproducing the attitudes and experiences of that brave generation who saved the world from Axis domination, and especially the kids (for that's what they were) in the airplanes.

If you want to know what type of motorcycles the German military used and what the motorcycles and riders looked like, this
is the book for you. Almost all the photos include a rider, many of which are action shots. The book also includes pictures
of requisitioned machines, captured motorcycles, and some Allied motorcycles. Hinrichsen also discusses the overcoats made
for the rider and passenger and the heating systems on the BMWs and Zündapps. I really enjoyed this book and the pictures
are great. But if you are looking for technical detail, this is not the book, as it's mostly pictures and captions.
