This book gives you a present day, and historical look at the Mission. It captures so much of the spirit. It is beautifully photographed, each picture being a treasure in itself. It is wonderfully illustrated - the artist certainly understands the Mission, and it is so well written. The author paints a picture of the old and new in an amazing way. The whole book is a work of art in itself.

If you have ever visited the Mission, or intend to visit it, or any other of the Missions this book is a must read. It will make your visit a truly personal experience.

This is one of the very few publications available about Mission San Xavier Del Bac - except for tourist literature. Helga Teiwes is both a writer and an accomplished photographer. The mission is located about seven miles from Tucson and is considered to be one of the finest examples of mission architecture in the United States.

The mission's foundation has been dated back to 1700. The mission was completed in 1797 and restored in 1906 and again in 1984.

Quite useful as a refference for writing papers of post-graduate level. Compact book, but amount of information contained is enough to surprise you. Easy to read, especially if you have some background of knowledge related to this field.

Mixtec Transnational Identity examines in detail the emergence of transnational indigenous organizations and communities throughout the Mexico-U.S. border area. Written with scholarly attention to detail by professor- researcher Laura Velasco Ortiz, Mixtec Transnational Identity covers such topics as the political construction of the transnational ethnic community, boundaries of gender and ethnicity within the community, and how policies of migration interplay with labor markets. Extensively researched and supported with both statistics and anecdotes, Mixtec Transnational Identity is a valuable resource for better understanding the political, ethnic, and sociological fabric of transnational communities and their interplay with America and Mexico as a whole.

The foundation of US Foreign relations until George W Bush

Thomas Jefferson was a genius. When he was asked what should be the guiding influence in American Foreign Policy, he enunciated the first usage of the Prime Directive. If US Presidents had stuck to that policy consistently, and applied it also to the US, I can't help but believe that the world would be a more prosperous and peaceful place today. The policy, stated by President Monroe and, therefore, referred to as the Monroe Doctrine, is very clearly explained by Dr. Dozer, a brilliant diplomat and writer.

Mary Irish separates all the different plant groups of the southwest, such as Cactii, Perennials, Annuals, Bulbs, Vegetables, etc, and then writes a 12-month calendar for each subject. It is very handy to look up the particular month in question to see what needs to be done, or to get information on planting during the colder months. She talks about planting, watering, fertilizing, possible pests, pruning, and other helpful hints for each group. A very informative book for anyone in the Arizona southwest.

This is a delightful book filled with delicious recipes from the Inn at 410 B&B in Arizona. The dishes use easily found ingredients and most are easy to make. It is printed in black & white with a few illustrations.

The book starts with baking tips including tips on lowering fat. Recipes include beverages, fruits, breakfasts, muffins, breads, spreads, scones, cookies & desserts. Sample menus are also given.

My favorite recipes are the blintz soufflé with blueberry sauce & Parmesan herb muffins. I also enjoyed the oatmeal pancakes, hash brown pie, tropical scones, raspberry crème anglaise & cinnamon kiss cookies.

Fluid narratives and scientific passion
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2001-01-05
I received this book as a Christmas gift from my father-in-law, who very conscientiously purchased the book from a locally-owned, independent bookseller. What a delightful book it is! My husband and I read it together, and we very much enjoyed every page. Bowers writes beautifully, fluidly and with wonderfully astute scientific insight. It is always a pleasure to read the writings of a scientist so inspired by her work that she shares her passion with laypeople; scientific passion is nothing less than infectious, regardless of the discipline. Bowers' essays are accessible, insightful prose that leave the reader hungry for more. A pure delight to read.

Superb first person account of the Southwest, 1890's-1920's mining
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2008-02-11
This book tells the story of an American mining engineer and mine developer in northern Mexico from the 1890's to the 1920's, with the last entry in 1932. This is a true story, which makes it all the more remarkable. Morris Parker wins the first mine that he owns himself in a poker game in Chihuahua Mexico. That and many other colorful stories fill the book. He also knew Pancho Villa, and counted him a friend. Better than movies. I could not put this book down, but read it through over the course of a week. Highly recommended if you have any interest in the northern Mexico, Southwest U.S. region, the time, or in mining history.
