Best book on scuba regulators!

This is a terrific book, absolutely irreplaceble for anyone who wants to work on scuba regulators or just wants to know more about them. I have been servicing mine for years but was amazed when I got the book how much I didn't know. I think the reason Amazon says "not available" is not because it isn't available, but just because Amazon doesn't carry it. I bought mine direct from the publisher, (...). They have a couple other great books too, on gas mixing, divelight building and booster pumps.

Before you buy a boat for diving you need to read this book!

Absolutely EXCELLENT! A well organized reference any SCUBA diver should read before purchasing a boat. It points out the numerous pit-falls to avoid, the expenses and maintenance necessary, and what to look for based upon where and what type of diving you do. This book provides details on many issues the average diver would not consider prior to purchasing a boat, including whether it would be worthwhile to own a boat or consider rentals instead. Anyone planning to purchase a boat for diving should buy this book first!

Indonesia Photo Safari using Step Zero as my Guide

Review Date: 2008-06-29
I am a budding SCUBA Photographer and decided to use the new Step Zero: Getting Started a SCUBA Photo Trip book as a guide for my preparations on my dive vacation to Indonesia. I invested many thousands of dollars in SCUBA equipment and underwater camera gear and the trip to Sulawesi itself and wanted not to be kicking myself for a simple error that could ruin my enjoyment. Well, the trip was fantastic. We spent 5 days at a dive resort and then 10 days on a live-aboard dive ship....SCUBA diving and shooting. I have thousands of photos both above and below water... and video as well. Given that this was such a major endeavor to cart all my gear half-way around the world, I am thrilled to say this book saved my vacation. I followed the simple but non-obvious rules and guidelines the book presented and found myself prepared and enjoying my vacation. If you are an experienced world traveller, this book can at least present reminders and lists to follow. But, if you are a moderate world traveller like me, or a novice and want to be sure that your SCUBA photo vacation is 100% relaxing and fun, then I highly recommend this book to you.

I felt like I was right there, underwater with Luke Dodge. Goldblatt is a great story teller and he really brings to life, the amazing spearfishing, scuba diving and travel adventures of his protagonist, Luke. This book is more well rounded (plot driven)than your average dive/spearfishing book . It is a true coming of age story, complete with adventure, challenges, love interests and triumph over difficult odds. I would reccomened this book to anybody who wants break from the norm and take a mental vacation.

The Tahiti-Polynesia Handbook Review by Garry Hawkins
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 1998-10-26
Have you ever wanted to travel to Tahiti, but thought it might be too expensive? Did you want to experience the Polynesia of Gauguin and Bougainville, but thought it had gone forever? Did you think that island archipelagoes such as the Gambiers, Tuamotus and the Societies were beyond your reach?Well, David Stanley's 'Tahiti Polynesia Handbook' will dispel many of the myths you may have heard about this far flung corner of the South Pacific. Stanley's first law of independent travel, is that " the more you spend, the less you experience". This holds true for Tahiti Polynesia as much as anywhere else. Why would you want to stay in a luxury hotel on Bora Bora, which merely creates Waikiki Beach for twice the price?Discover the real Polynesia: be amazed by the myriad colours at Papeete Market. Take 'Le Truck' to travel and meet the Tahitians at work and play. Adjust to island time by taking the slow boat to Moorea: experience the surreal majesty of Matavai Bay on departure and the awesome backdrop that is Mount Rotui as it looms above the deep green of Cook's Bay on arrival. All this and much more is detailed in the Tahiti-Polynesia Handbook. Where to go? What to see? What to do? How to get there? The introductory historical, socio-political, economic and environmental and even gastronomical chapters, answer all of the questions you could ever possibly ask about the islands of Polynesia. Subsequent chapters are full useful hints and tips, aircraft/boat and bus timetables, maps, illustrations, artistic impressions and quotations about this fascinating group of islands. There is also a sprinkling of excellent colour photographs, though more of these wouldn't come amiss!I was originally introduced to the South Pacific through Stanley's much larger volume, the South Pacific Handbook. The Tahiti Polynesia Handbook is small enough to fit into your backpack, yet light enough to avoid excess baggage charges! Having read the book, I now feel the urge to explore outer Polynesia in much greater depth. Names such as Huahine, Raiatea, Rapa Iti, Rangiroa and Fatu Hiva are now within MY reach.Leave the tourist hordes behind and become an independent traveller; experience Tahiti-Polynesia for yourself and get a copy of David Stanley's Tahiti-Polynesia Handbook.

A must for diving visitors to Trinidad & Tobago

This book is up to date on diving in the most Southerly isles of the West Indies. The GPS co-ordinates make finding the dive sites a snap, so there is no need to waste time or air, swimming to the site. The top side discussion and photos are very interesting
and entices the reader to find out more about the islands. The underwater pictures are colourful and are true to form. I strongly
recommend it to visitors to the islands. I look forward to his other books!
