Having been an avid golf hacker for many years, I have been given so many golf course pictorial books for house, birthday,
father's day etc presents. The photographs in this particular book are astounding....the beauty, nuance, power and delicacy
expressed by Mr. Schiller give new meaning to the overused word "awesome". Everyone who loves golf should have the pleasure
of perusing Mr. Schiller's version of "Golf in the KIngdom". I have already given 6 copies to friends. These photographs
are another proof of the existence of God.

"Gone to Maui" is a fun read for teenage girls who are looking for a novel with fun, humor, and romance. The main character
is someone I could easily relate to, and I'm sure other girls can also. It's a great book to take to the beach.

Graham Salisbury, winner of the Scott O'Dell and Boston Globe-Horn Book Awards, grew up in Hawaii during the 1950's, and the
lion's share of his fiction is set there. He writes about boys of all races trying to carve an identity for themselves and
struggling to make moral decisions as they grow into manhood.
The first section of this book chronicles the labyrinthine path of Salisbury's life and career: from barefoot island boy to college dropout, from bubblegum pop musician to schoolteacher, and from real estate manager to young adult author. The book then offers a critical context for Salisbury's work, discussing his novels in terms of plot and style: analyzing literary themes and examining critical responses to his work. Salisbury's use of archetypes and the coming of age stories that dominate his work are explored in depth. Fans are also treated to a peek at some of Salisbury's future projects.
Librarians, teachers, and teen readers will find this critical biography to be a useful resource for the library, classroom, and reference bookshelf.

If you have visited Hawaii at all, you know that you will find any one of these chef's restaurants on every major island in
the state. They have also been featured on HGTV, and TLC's cooking shows, as well as some of their own local shows. This
cookbook showcases some of their most popular recipes, and they really aren't that difficult to follow. A lot of the ingredients
may be harder to find, the further east you go in the states. (tropical fruits, etc.) But if you really want the true taste
of Hawaii, you'll try these recipes!!

Celebrating great food in the spirit of the islands

I bought this book while on a fabulous vacation to Maui, Hawaii.
This book is a great souvenir of that trip to the island and the wonderful culinary celebration that I experienced there.
Some people do not enjoy fusion cuisine or the cuisine that is outside of the regular mainstream cannon of the culinary world. However, I think that this book is a fantastic show of the creative, fresh spirit that I found in Hawaii. It is perhaps a spirit that I think has been lost in much of America, if not the world.
Indeed, with its collection of chefs throughout the state, the book shows how worldly, yet still local, Hawaii's cuisine can truly be. Not only that, it can be both traditional and/ or modern. Indeed, there is a philosophy and there is a passion and tradition... they are creating great food in Hawaii, as beautiful as the islands themselves. This is a celebration of the Hawaii spirit.

I am sure this book is outstanding. I highly recommend buying it. To my regret, I lost contact with the author (a former
flame) some 26 years ago now. She was unforgetable and I think of Lettuce often.

The word 'mahele' translates as "dividing" or "separating out."
This slender volume is a quick, well-written overview of the process whereby the lands of the Hawaiian Islands were transformed from a feudal system to a modern private-property based system at the behest of a far-sighted monarch, Kamehameha III. The author describes the ancient feudal system that was replaced, the legal mechanism by which this process occurred (a Land Commission empowered by the legislature in 1845), how policies were developed over time, and what the rules were for claiming and obtaining title.
Reading this book, one can't help but be impressed by the principled, thoughtful manner in which this fundamentally important change was executed. The safegaurds for common people in particular, assuring them claims to lands held by chiefs or landlords, are particularly impressive given the era.
The reforms in land ownership paved the way for the future economic development of the islands and in a very direct way helped make Hawaii what it is today.
A must-read for anyone interested in the history of America's 50th state.

I grew up barefoot in Hawaii, too.

This book truly captures what it is like to grow up barefoot in Hawaii, whatever the era. Although the "growing up" described
in the book took place many decades before my own, the book accurately conveys the essence of what it is to live as a child
in such a special place. The author notes that she wanted to call it something like "Growing up Barefoot in Hawaii...as did
my children and grandchildren" -- while I am not one of her grandchildren, reading this book felt somehow autobiographical
(yes, I'll admit that I spent my fair share of time without shoes). The places were familiar, although her descriptions were
of a time long past. The occasional Hawaiian word (such as "puka") offers a hint of the uniqueness of the islands, as these
words really are integrated into the English vocabularies of everyone who lives there. Anyone who grew up in Hawaii(particularly
on Oahu) or has spent time there will enjoy this book. It's a little like looking at old vacation photos -- the images conveyed
through the mini-chapters are like snapshots of something larger, and they stir up so many more memories. Part history, part
autobiography, this book is well worth reading.
