Ellen's book gives a historical perspective on the forces that have shaped the rivers of Colorado's front range. I grew up
on the Colorado's front-range and would never have suspected the extent of change that these rivers have undergone. She covers
the period from the Beaver Men to the present. During a recent fishing vacation back to the area I was able to stand where
some of the photos were taken, read the descriptions, and envision the changes for myself. Hopefully, concerned citizens and
their elected officials will take her advice throughout the book seriously and protect these valuable resources for the future!

A fascinating book about one of the most dangerous avalanche areas in the U.S.. With plenty of amazing photographs and interesting
interviews, the authors provide a look at the incredible beauty of the area, and the awesome destructive force of avalanches
in the San Juan Mountains in Southwest Colorado. A great book for anyone interested in experiencing mountain back country,
or in the history of how the people of this area have learned to live with these incredible forces of nature.

With this new book Dr. Glenda Russell has achieved what few scholars ever have. She has given us a solid, scholarly and
rigorous accounting of her research into the effects of the passage of Colorado's notorious, homophobic Amendment 2 on gay
people. In addition, she has given us many completely readable narratives that bring the devastating psychological effects
down to individuals deeply harmed by the vote. (Amendment 2 was later overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court.) If the
scholarly research reporting is too much for most of us, the personal accounts are well worth the reading. One wishes that
all scholars would report their findings in such friendly ways, ways that all of us can access. A splendid book, both
for its careful explication of research methods and results and for its careful discriptions of how anti-gay politics really
does very deep and personal damage gay people. Lay readers may not want to read this book from front to back, but it's
well worth the paperback price to have it on hand for those parts that are so readable and moving. It is a bonus that
Russell writes so well--clearly and concisely, unlike the authors of most academic tomes.

War North Of 80: The Last German Arctic Weather Station Of World War II is the firsthand account of Wilhelm Dege, leader of
the last of the weather stations set up in the farthest reaches of the Arctic during World War II. It was not until well after
the death of Hitler and the end of his regime that the Allies sent a ship northward to retrieve Dege and his crew, making
their team the last German troops to surrender. War North Of 80 presents a skillfully rendered English translation of Dege's
journal, enhanced with appendices on the post-war careers of the men who faced the harsh rigors of the Arctic alongside Dege.
A profoundly fascinating insight into a little-known aspect of World War II military history.

Interested readers should know that this is the exact same book as STORM AND STAMPEDE ON THE CHISHOLM, published by Bison
Books, that appears above. I believe WARPATH AND CATTLE TRAIL was the earlier title. Both editions are excellent.

This is the final installment in the Colorado Confidential series. Learn who has taken the Langworthy baby - and why! Find
out who the baby's father is, and what lengths he will go to in order to return little Sky to safety.
By the time I had read the other Colorado Confidential books, the characters had become old friends, so I was on the edge of my seat to find out how it all ends. I was 97% satisfied that the loose ends were all wrapped up - though doing so smoothly in a multi-book series is destined to leave a few choppy sections. All in all, it was nicely done and I'm glad I read the series.

These poems are stunningly beautiful. They are simple enough to grasp immediately, but as you reread them, the depth is overwhelming.
The poems are crisp, there is a beautiful tension between love and woundedness. This is a book that I have given often as
a gift and I continually reach for it myself.

I searched for about a year before finding this book (in the days before Amazon.com) and when I finally found it, I wasn't
disappointed. The book is a few decades old now, but the writing style, being clean and un-flowery, is still as accessable
today as when it was first written. Deeply informative and enjoyable, it's actually a bit of a page-turner, and is in fact
recommended by scholars such as Catherine Mulholland and Dr. J. David Rogers as a fair and serious work documenting the history
of Los Angeles' water saga from the 1870's up through the building of the Colorado River Aqueduct for the MWD in the middle
of the 20th Century. A must for your California history bookshelf!

This is one of the most beautiful books I've ever seen. I wish they would have given details on the printing process for this
book. I've never seen such vibrant, sharp, photographs in a book. They look almost as good as professionally done prints
on photographic paper. As for the artistic merit of the photographs themselves, they are wonderful, something to get lost
in.
