This work provides information that is detailed and well presented. Many historical volumes deal with one or two issues while Mr. Abruzzi has defined settlement, ecology, and development of the Little Colorado Basin and included detailed analyses of the contributing factors. Anyone interested in the history or ecology of the area will find here a reference that eclipses other books on the subject.

My mother and my sister are both visually impaired. I learned a great deal of what they've faced by reading this book.

Beginning with the story of Joe Arridy, certified as a "feeble-minded imbecile" who was executed in Colorado in 1939, Deadly Innocence? traces political and judicial handling of incidents involving persons with retardation; describes similar current cases; and offers suggestions for action on the part of the police, the courts, professionals who work in the field of developmental disabilities, and concerned citizens.

Robert Perske is widely known as a writer and advocate has focused attention in recent years on the interface of disability and what is called the justice system. In this fast-paced true story, Perske continues his investigation of instances when confessions come too easily, or have little evidence to back them up.

The childlike Arridy, labeled "feebleminded," and formerly institutionalized, had been convicted of murder on the basis of a dubious confession. In spite of the efforts of the politically prominent prison warden, who had become Arridy's friend, Arridy was executed. He had to be talked out of taking his toy train-a gift from the warden-with him to the gas chamber.

I expecially like this map because it's the one I had for years while living in Denver. It is a very broad metro/vicinity of Denver metro, suburbs, etc. It appears it's out of print which is the one I prefer instead of having to buy a Mapsco of Denver. It's very detailed. Once back in Denver, a Mapsco of Denver will be useful. But, these adds a huge picture of the metro area and I relied on this one for 17 years in Denver.
It appears it is no longer be printed and has been replaced with a Regional Map, which is good also. I highly recommend this map while supplies last. Basically, the orginally Denver metro area map and a good one.

This book is a great guide to Denver restaurants, including surrounding areas and some outstanding mountain additions. There are humorous introductory sections, clear explanations about ratings, and lots of good indexes in the back to help you find what you're looking for by type of food or location. John's a wonderful writer with so much experience in Colorado over many years. (One of the funny things about the book is that he feels like he needs to try to maintain anonymity so he can review restaurants fairly -- very unlikely given how well-known he is in Denver/Boulder and his readily recognizable form!)

Most people today know little about Denver's fiery past. How many know of the midnight explosion and fire at the Gumry Hotel, which killed 22 people, the worst toll in the city's history? Or that the world-class fire-fighting crew at Denver International Airport can trace its roots to the 1961 crash of a United Airlines DC-8 at Stapleton, which revealed a fire department woefully undermanned and underequipped? Or of Company 3, the city's legendary company of African-American firemen, wiped out in a hotel fire in 1895?

We are moving from So Calif to Denver and we needed to get a map that would help us with our house-hunting. We looked for a Thomas Brothers guide, assuming this map-maker was a national company. They're not. So we bought this one from Mapsco.

This map is much like a Thomas Brothers, but with possibly even better graphics. Great street index, great graphics, great everything. Very pleased. We even bought a second copy so we could write all over one of them.

Great book at fraction of original price. Really helped me out on my trip. Very informative.
