The high country of Colorado offers a wealth of outdoor recreational experiences for hikers. Part of 'The Colorado Mountain
Club Guidebook' series, and now in an newly updated and expanded second edition, "Colorado Lake Hikes" by hiking and cross-country
skiing enthusiast and 'The Denver Post' columnist Dave Muller offers a fully illustrated collection of one hundred hikes to
145 different high-country Colorado lakes. Aspiring hikers and outdoors enthusiasts are provided with four levels of hikes
ranging from easy to difficult. Each particular hike is accurately described in practical detail including round-trip distances,
estimated hiking times, starting elevation, highest elevation, elevation gain, difficulty rating, and a list of relevant maps.
Of special note is the 'user friendly' locator map in the front of "Colorado Lake Hikes". Enhanced with color photographs
and maps throughout, "Colorado Lake Hikes" is a superb on-site guide and highly recommended for anyone planning a walking
trip through Colorado's beautiful lake country. Also very highly recommended and a part of 'The Colorado Mountain Club Guidebook'
series is "The Colorado Trail: 7th Edition" (9780976052524, $24.95) which is the official guidebook of The Colorado Trail
Foundation and includes integrated GPS waypoints, expert planning advice, full color maps for each of the 28 trail segments,
elevation profiles, descriptions of the trail segments, and even information for resupply at nearby towns.

I had the previous edition of this book and it was just OK. But this one is really pretty... the book even has one of those
rugged, matte coated covers. This book is easy to figure out and has a lot of photos! I think it would make a great gift too.

Turn off the television and kick back with Colorado Motet. You'll feel like you've gotten to know some folks, and learned
a little bit about life along the way. Think Bukowski, Annie Proulx, and Richard Brautigan. Motet has the same bittersweet
flavor and a sense of humanity that's rare these days. It's a sweet deal to find a book that's got some meat to it, that's
not a formula driven thriller, that's got a collection of characters you can sink your teeth into. If I were Hollis I'd give
it an 868.

As per usual the Narrow Gauge Calender from the Colorado Railroad Museum is loaded with excellent pictures of Colorado narrow
gauge lines. Although practically all of the D&RGW or its successors, the pictures give a lot of detail in the background
for those interested in Colorado.

a reference work every Colorado notary should own

If a Colorado notary had just one notary book in their library, this should be it, because it contains everything that a Colorado
notary needs to know. The title is a bit misleading, depending on how you interpret the phrase 'notary law'. It deals with
very many topics.
It begins with a section on how to become a notary and the various 'tools' that a notary needs. The '10 Most-Asked Questions' section can serve as a 'no-can-do' reference, since it deals with the types of things a notary can and cannot do. It's especially the things that we cannot do that will keep us out of trouble. If a person is a new notary, they will appreciate the section on 'Steps to Proper Notarization'. It basically walks you through all of the things you should do to perform a notarization.
The heart of the book is the section, 'Notary Laws Explained'. It goes into Colorado notary law in more detail, defining the acts that a Colorado notary can perform, things that a notary is unauthorized to do, the various types of notarizations, practices and procedures, ... in short, everything you need to know.
There is a 'Test Your Knowledge' section. And the answers are provided so that you can see how you did.
The section on 'Colorado Laws Pertaining to Notaries Public' contains all of the Colorado Revised Statutes as they pertain to notaries. This latest edition came out in 2004. Some of the notary laws have changed since then, so you will want to check to make sure that the laws in your book are current. Visit the Colorado Secretary of State website.
The real beauty of this reference work is that it is compact enough that you can carry it wherever you go, and refer to it whenever you have a question. And you might want to have it spiral bound, as I did. It's perfect bound, so the pages will eventually come out if you refer to it very often.
Despite the minor flaw of a few of the notary laws needing to be updated, I highly recommend this reference work. It really is a book that every Colorado notary should own.

Don Koch divides this book into geographic areas corresponding to Colorado's major mountain ranges. Each section outlines
mountain passes within that section. Each of these passes are independantly revieved. Their locations, starting points, points
of interest, difficulty, scenic interest and historic interest are given. He goes on to describe in detail for each pass his
personal experiences on that pass and what you can expect. Also, he gives important hints about what to look out for and particular
safety precautions for each particular pass as well as the side trails which spur off. I use this book as a reference manual
on and off the trails and suggest anyone heading to the Colorado Rockys to buy this book. Many passes can be traversed via
car/light truck and some require 4 wheel drive. This book will let you know which ones.

This is a great little book for those of you who like little bits of history. This book provides a short summary of the
history or interesting facts of places in colorado. If you are into geneology you learn that a town or county may not have
the same name today that it did 90 years ago. That complicates your search. This book lists many of those towns and gives
you their current and old names,as well as the name of the county the town is or was in. You will often be told the origin
of the place, and its nameas well as any interesting facts. I do recommend this book to historians or any one who just
likes interesting tid bits. Its also fun to go visit some of those places and experience them first hand.

1878 Colorado
COLORADO JEWEL is a sparkling read!
Beautiful and lively Magheen Fitzgerald never dreamed she'd someday leave her native Ireland for the shores of America and to the mountain splendors of Leadville, Colorado. She was in search of her brother, Father Patrick Fitzgerald with hopes of making a fortune in mining to help her other brothers purchase freedom from Australian penal colonies. But when the stagecoach she was traveling in overturned near Leadville, her fate was sealed in losing her heart to her rescuer, handsome and wealthy lawyer-turned-mine owner, Daniel Calcord. As he nursed Magheen back to health in a remote cabin, Daniel lost his heart and head to the wild Irish beauty. It was only a matter of time before they found themselves wed and trying to make it work.
Very Enjoyable!
