A reason to laugh

Even when our brothers (or sisters) drive us crazy, there are always those special moments that make us laugh (or cry) and this book forces us to remember what they are. From the moment that these relationships are born, to the end (which is never really the end) and all of the special moments in between. This book has us celebrating the bond between brother's and sister's from the very first story!

Fun to Write, Fun to Read

Since this was the first submission I made to the Chicken Soup series, I was delighted to learn that my little story, Easter Bloomers, would appear in this collection, and so was my "baby" brother. We're in the section called Golden Times, because my tale took place well over half a century ago.
When my copy arrived last week, I couldn't wait to read what others had to say about their brothers and sisters. I've been reading five or six stories each evening, and am nearly finished. I know there's some that think Chicken Soup stories are corny or cheesey...but I've reached a stage where pseudo-sophisticated, jaded, ironic, or sardonic commentary doesn't always do it for me, especially not at bedtime. This Chicken Soup collection is comfort food, just as advertised. This will be my favorite book, at least until they buy another of my stories!

Complete in Christ - Great for groups!

We use this in a ladies group bible study and have had some great discussion. I think that you will get so much more from this book in a group setting, but it would be great for personal study as well. For many of the questions, we use it as an opportunity to find Bible verses that go along with the subject and we share these when we meet together.

I think the author has done a great job of making a book for those who have been Christians for a long time as well as a book that will not overwhelm new Christians.

Excellent for small-group BIble studies

Very well-written. Not a boring, rote-memorization work-book, but provocative and evocative. It calls on participants to interact with the Biblical texts.
Highly recommended!

A must read for the disciple of Christ

As a licensed marriage and family therapist, it is my responsibility to train new therapists just entering the mental health field. To decrease their anxiety, they often seek specific interventions (tools) they can use to be helpful in their work. These "tools" are necessary, but even more important is developing a deeper level of understanding of an overall model of treatment. It is this overall model that gives understanding of which intervention to use and why. For the disciple of Christ, the 3-2-1 paradigm, introduced in Complete in Christ, does just that with the scriptures. 3-2-1 guides the student to the deeper level of understanding of God's word. Regarding this deeper level, Michael challenges the disciple of Christ to "consider the importance of owning a set of core convictions." It is an excellent combination of teaching very practical "tools" that further the Christian's effectiveness to serve others as well as providing global truths that increase their awareness of God's love and plan for mankind. Complete in Christ facilitates a disciple of Christ to be complete in serving Him.

Beating a path to your own door
Helpful Votes: 13 out of 13 total.
Review Date: 2000-09-11
This job search book helped me understand why the job market of today feels so stressful -- one reason being that lots of people are changing jobs (I love the term "portfolio career") or, like I did in my 40's, starting a second career. So it helps to have a tool like this to take your pulse and remind you that it's not you, it's THEM -- you're just reacting normally to a crazy world -- and then guide you with ways to cope. The author doesn't make yet another approach at explaining how to prepare resumes and write letters. Instead, Robert Chope addresses the emotions that come up when you're looking for a job or considering a career, which can be scary and confusing. For instance, maybe you want to make a change but doing that would go against a parent's or partner's desires. Maybe just the idea of a job quest makes you nervous or suddenly need a nap. This book addresses situations like that and many many others: fear, anger, uncertainty, indecisiveness, and the book reminds us too that physical well being is important. The rules, exercises, examples, suggestions, and lists of resources are helpful and goal directed, and most of all the positive, encouraging tone is energizing. If you're stumped, Chope's book will help you find your way.

Career Hunters need to Dance Naked!

Review Date: 2002-02-03
An excellent addition to books on careers. The book has a whole section on career identity. This is useful as most of us identify ourselves by our career identity rather than our personal characteristics, family background or origins from the part of the world we come from. Another section deals with managing emotions in the context of career change. Ultimately, it is indeed a book not only for career counsellors but also for any career hunter or someone who has been affected by redundancies! Some very useful and helpful ideas to re-invent yourself and your career. A book that fills a void in career counselling! Thank you, Prof. Chope.

Great for Employers, too!

This book is aimed at employees who are interested in changing their career or their job, depending on age and circumstance. As an employer, I purchased this book from Amazon to learn how "new" employees were thinking. I learned a lot from the employee's viewpoint, but found many of the chapters extremely thought provoking and useful for employers.

The last part of the book is primarily great advice, but the first part of the book I could not put down as it taught me quite a bit. In fact, I have passed it on to some business owners I know as I found the information very useful. The book is also very well written and easy to read.

As the head teacher of a school for ADD/ADHD boys this book has served as the most valuable tool that I currently use. Many of our boys have been labeled ADD but in reality have never been made to persevere through challenges, or have never been made to complete a task with diligence. This book not only discusses practical ways to help all students of education, but it discusses the guiding principles behind all true education. America will never find the solution to its problems with education as long as its view of education is limited only to an intellectual study of science, math, verbal skills, and reasoning skills. As quoted in EDUACTION pg. 13, "Our ideas of education take too narrow and too low a range...It has to do with the whole being, and with the whole period of existence possible to man. IT is the harmonious development of the physical, the mental, and the spiritual powers."

Broadens Your View of Education

The book Education broadened my vision of what true education is really about.

This book has been in my library for years - from when I was a student in high school. Later when I had children, it became yet more important to me in developing guiding principles for their educational process.

I have found that I use Education as the standard to keep from wandering off track with trendy theories, or to lose sight of what true education is meant to be.

For parents, for expecting parents, for teachers and educators, for home schoolers - don't miss reading this book!

A Very Broad View of Education
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2000-03-30
This is the book to read if you want a broad, Bible-based view of education. For example, the first paragraph reads:

"Our ideas of education take too narrow and too low a range. There is need of a broader scope, a higher aim. True education means more than the pursual of a certain course of study. It means more than a preparation for the life that now is. It has to do with the whole being, and with the whole period of existence possible to man. It is the harmonious development of the physical, the mental, and the spiritual powers. It prepares the student for the joy of service in this world and for the higher joy of wider service in the world to come. "

There is much in this book for everyone who would like to develop physically, mentally, and spiritually.

This book helped me to realize the basic leadership qualities we all have in ourselves, and how to remove the blocks that prevent us from realizing and using good leadership skills. The book resonates with the leadership intuition that I knew I had, but that so often is lost in the details of my job. Excellent and highly recommended for anyone wanting to improve their leadership in a simple, basic, and effective way by accessing the knowledge and wisdom they already have.

This book is great, we are buying one by one from this collection and my 4 1/2 years old love it. It's unbeliavable how kids pick up things from books. He didn't want to wash his hands very often and the book works great for that matter.I recommend the whole collection.

I bought this book for my 2 1/2 year old and it quickly became his favorite book.

Now when it's time to wash his hands he tells me! He is always telling me "Germs are not for sharing." He also asks me for a tissue when he needs one and has stopped eating food that has hit the floor.

I think the charm of this book is the fact that it uses words like Achoo, Cough, Gurgle, Flush -- that I can say in a way that really gets his attention.

2 Thumbs up!

Simple and to the point. Great book for the very young child on what to do when you sneeze, blow your nose, etc. It isn't a book about "just washing hands", it covers more than washing hands and opens up the opportunity to discuss when and where we find germs. Wonderful illustrations - bright and colorful.
