not suitable for the younger end

This book is advertised as being suitable for ages 9 to 12. Well, after getting it for my young daughter, it really looks to be more suitable for the upper end of that spectrum. The book is nicely laid out with an interspersing of jokes and exercises, but so far the actual riddles that you've got a chance at figuring out are pretty few and far between. Most of the riddles are ones that you really can't figure out.

Anyway, I'm more impressed with the other "everything kids" books I've purchased.

This 16-page workbook is a good addition to a foreign-language library. Some children seem to engage in learning more if they have something to do, rather than just listen and recite. There are a couple cut-and-paste activities, a maze, dot-to-dot, crossword puzzle, picture puzzles, punch-out characters with clothes and one origami-type toy. For intriguing puzzles, humor and an all-around entertaining book we enjoy First German On Holiday by Kathy Gemmell, available here on Amazon.

How to Write a Story isn't quite what I expected. I thought it would be more like How to Write a Super Sentence. The book isn't bad. There are only four stories and then they have some resources in the back for making a writing center.

Would be better if it came with a disk for the questions

I used the questions, but not the game. (PowerPoint Jeopardy) It has great questions that are broad enough that even my special ed students could be successful. For grades 5 and up.

the entire collection of "frank" is not very organize and plan, they have still not get the idea of different levels and topics and they do the same in all levels but with different styles or they will focus is some stuff but not all, the Mexican influence is quite the same for all their books and they do not take in consideration other cultures words. Otherwise the pictures and the coloring sheets are very creative.

Fun group game, but not trivia based
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2001-02-18
This game contains a keyboard & cards with different songs to play & identify. There is very little trivia other than knowing the songs. It contains the gold & red books as well. (other supplements are available). Most of the songs are American standards, with a small number being pop or country classics. If you are looking for a trivia based music game, you may prefer Pop-Up Video, but this isn't going to give you what you are looking for.

first light and easy was heavy and hard
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2006-02-09
The first puzzle in this book in the Light and Easy section was very difficult. I solved the second one without too much trouble but had friends help do the first one. Not the best book to start out with.

Also the sudoku in this book aren't symetrical like I saw in my friend's Japanese published book.

It was cheap and fit into my cargo pants pocket so I can't complain too much.

Although, I use these plays in my classroom and they have been "okay" for the purpose of building fluency and prosodic reading, I would like to have seen texts that attract the young readers more. The plays give plenty of information and try to do so in an interesting manner, however they just don't draw a young readers interest. And by trying to pack so many facts into a few pages, the plays can sometimes seems dry. It takes a lot of finessing to get "by-in" by the students.
