Fun and Games Books

Book says for K-6 but I found it to be geared mostly for the younger grades, maybe K-4. However, it has some great forms for everything from passes and checklists to planning for a sub. It also has good classroom management tips and ideas for lesson planning. A great overall book.

This is a great book for a new teacher trying to plan out a school year

This was a helpful book for the ever present problem of keeping the rest of the class busy (but not with "busy work") while you work with a small group. Even if you are not reading some of the titles listed by the author, the framework for creating your own activities is very helpful.

I purchased this book because I thought it would give me some fresh ideas on how to set up and manage centers while I worked with small groups. Well, the author only spends about 4 pages on center set-up and management, and it's a pretty broad overview with fuzzy details. I would not recommend this book for a teacher who has never done centers before, because it is not very helpful in the "how-to" department. On the other hand, it is packed full of great ideas for activities related to literacy that can be used in your centers. Most of them are of the worksheet variety, and many are made for specific book titles, but all of the ideas can be adapted for your own curriculum. The menu idea itself is great and very flexible, and I like the author's use of long-term projects to solve the "I'm done, what can I do now?" problem. This is a great book for teachers who already use centers and need some new activity ideas.

Honestly, this book is great, but you could find more resources like what is found in this book on the internet. I own the whole series of the Play and culture type books. I feel I would have done better by searching the internet. This is a great book to have. Expect a taste of games to play with kids, not the full course meal.

An excellent resource! I am going to use it as a 4th grade Social Studies text next year. A must have if you live in Seattle or plan to visit. Very child friendly.

I've lived in the Seattle area almost all my life. I spent 10 years working in downtown. I feel I really know the area. However, in looking for a book to give me ideas of what to do with my kids playing tourist in Seattle this one didn't help. I'm now looking for another book to inspire me in planning out a full week. If you were a kid from out of state wondering what your parents were getting you in for, this book would be okay. Other than that, it's not really that helpful in planning a vacation.

I babysit and this book will come in handy for games to play with only a few kids or when the whole neighborhood comes over.

This book has lots of ideas in it and it written clearly and concisely... However I know many of the ideas that are in the book so it was only an average help to me... If you were giving it to a child as a present it would be great :)

This is an outstanding book that I have used in my classes for years and years. It has a wealth of material that is of a quality far above the usual compendiums of games that you usually see. Great games, challenges, tricks, etc. that you will love using with your students, and the range is from early grades on up to at least junior high and sometimes beyond.

Great stuff. While you're at it, buy an extra copy or two for your colleagues; this is one book you're going to love and use often.

This book provides a lot of interesting and funny maths activities which would be able to help dynamic teachers in introducing elementary techniques to their young students.

The overheads that go along with this book are fantastic. The worksheets are a little young for my middle schoolers, but they are a helpful reinforcement.

This is an easy-to-use resource for teaching basic paragraph writing skills. Skills are taught step-by-step using graphic organizers and simple instructions. It covers topic sentences, developing a paragraph, transitions, expository paragraphs, narrative paragraphs, descriptive paragraphs, persuasive paragraphs, and editing. Including in the booklet are overheads that would be useful in a classroom setting. Visual learners will especially like this resource.

I only give it 4 stars because the price of $12.99 is a little expensive for homeschool parents since they would not use the overheads and much of this information is easily found elsewhere. For classroom teachers using overheads, the price is reasonable.

I love this book. It is a simple, easy-to-follow workbook for both teacher and student. It simplifies ways to write well-structured, interesting paragraphs about any topic. Good, solid instruction. Evan-Moore has done it again!

I bought this book to help my students stay focused on one subject at a time. I always have students who can write pages of run-on sentences, but can't write a paragraph. This book provides a nice way to learn about topic sentences and supporting details. It also has a lot of writing forms that give students hints about what to write (e.g., describe how the food tastes). This book has given my class a common language that's helped writing across the curricula. I do wish that it provided more lines for each writing form, but it's easy enough to give them extra paper. [...]

I'd buy it, again. I think I will.

By the way, I did not pay a sourcing fee. I paid a buck-and-a-half and got free shipping with Amazon Prime. Now, I see this is on the 4-for-3 promotion, so I may pick out a few more like this and get another stash for the kids.

About the book...Yes, it's tiny. It's less than 6 inches high. (Get out your ruler.) Each 2-page spread is a double, with differences. You know what I mean. (It's a "spot the difference" book!)

I bought this little book about a year ago, when my boys were 5. They sat and spotted all or most of the differences in a sitting or two. Since then, this book has been with the coloring books. Every now & then, someone colors a page. They like it a lot.

This would be a nice one to put in your purse along with a small box of crayons. It's nice to have something small like this handy for when time needs to be passed in a waiting room or at a restaurant.

I do definitely recommend this. The pictures are very appealing to the kids and they loved it.

Nice busy work book for a young child..But with a "Sourcing" fee it is terribly over priced. What is a sourcing fee anyway?? Look for similar in the Dollar store instead.

This book contains ideas for several areas of learning when working with the alphabet. It includes art, fingerplays, activities and games, etc. It also includes flash cards to be copied. I use some of the ideas weekly.

Many, great ideas to teach the alphabet to very young children. Activities allow children to involve their fine and gross motor skills keeping their attention focused on the activity.
