Fun and Games Books

I am a teacher with few supplies at my disposal. This book showed me ways to use common items from a grocery store to demonstrate chemistry without spending a fortune or needing hard to find supplies. The book includes a section on safety, which is very important. It also describes why each experiment works the way it does. This book is best for the elementary or middle school science teacher.

I am an ESL teacher who bought this series to help me teach science to English Language Learners. The series is written for native speakers, not ELLs, but the student pages are uncluttered, and the language is not complex. Each text includes a variety of experiments and activities to teach key science concepts.

To make a long story short, I work with the sister of the author Beth Blair. And, Ms. Blair visited my child's second grade class and described what life is like being an illustrator and an author and researching gross things. The kids were fascinated. Ms. Blair obviously enjoys children and certainly relates to them on their level. I had purchased copies of this book for the class ... we handed it out after Beth's short talk. Every pencil came out and every head went down. The kids immediately went to town working in the book. It was perfect for the 7-8 year old bunch. They then wrote very cute notes to Ms. Blair about how much they loved the gross book and how they were looking forward to doing the rest of the activities this summer. Twenty kids don't lie. They liked it, read it, and used it right away. I will certainly purchase more of these Activity Books by Beth Blair for my kid.

This book, and all Long's books in the series of mathematical strands, are full of games that make teaching math interesting and fun. All ideas use manipulatives such as playing cards, that are easily found around the house. Send some of the games home to be practiced for homework,and homework will be fabulous fun as well.

Bob Keeshan, "Capt. Kangaroo", has compiled a variety of activities for all age groups. Conveniently and logically divided in to types of activities and subdivided into suggested age groups. Lots of activities make use of things you have around the house. Great for relieving the cabin fever associated with cold or rainy days

We've had this game for about six months. Suddenly my son (now just over four) has discovered it and can't get enough of it. It's helping him with his numbers (put the animals on the even numbers, put the animals on backwards, how many pices do you have now?). It's a nice, fairly quiet, way to spend family time in the evening before bedtime.

I love this product! It's great for figuring out activities you can do with little ones. How they have the activities filed helps planning out what you would want to do, or the activities you mayo want to do.

I got this for one of my classes and it is great! Lots of ideas and great activities for many ages! Just pick one from the file and BINGO! you have a great game! So buy it, it is worth the money!

My daughter who is 7 loves this book. She enjoys the searches and it takes time to find everything so it lasts a while. SHe enjoys the stories as well.

I found this a helpful and supportive aid to the research-based programs we use in my school. I liked the variety of reading selections (poetry, narrative, etc.) and the direct, explicit teaching that supports fluency instruction.

This is a great idea for flying travelers. My kids (10&7) liked it a lot.
