Father's Day Books

This father and son team has produced for all generations a fitting and touching tribute to those who have lost their lives while serving in the armed forces of our nation. This is history with a personal, stirring touch. The delicate subject is handled with the utmost reverance and grace. The reader stands, as it were, in hushed solemnity at the funerals themselves. There is so much not-to-be lost history to be gleaned as well. Particularly outstanding is the way the Fletchers interlace so powerfully yet so tenderly the powerful threads of Christianity at its pristine best.

Thanks so much for a most eloquent tribute to our fallen.

I have followed with interest as Robert A. Fletcher (illustrator) has put together a splendid arrangement of paintings to honor our veterans in America's Wars. It honors those unnamed thousands who have given the ultimate sacrifice for their country with a nice write-up and beautiful paintings showing U.S. military funerals from centuries ago until recently.

An interesting tidbit is that Robert A. Fletcher is in fact a Korean War veteran. So, by buying some great art and acquiring a great conversation starter for your coffee table, you are also supporting a veteran by your purchase.

We discovered this book when my oldest daughter was 4-years-old at our library. It was one of the few books she asked to hear more than once. She also was inspired to where her hair in the 'fountain' style described in the book. Recently, while listening to a tape of Patricia MacLachlan's stories we came across the story again. We all laughed out loud at the tale and ended up listening to it over and over again. We now have a list of friends we MUST buy it for. Four to six-year-olds are probably the best audience but I have given it to adult friends when they are having a sick day and need a grin to help get better.

Jane Duer illustrates Patricia MacLachlan's The Sick Day, a simple story of a young girl who has a sick day - her stomach aches and her throat feels sore. Good reading skills will lend to this easy story of a girl who involves her father in her day off, turning a sick day into something special after all.

This is a beautifuly arranged collection of stories from the eyes of fathers of different ages, stages, and backgrounds. Each story, reflection, life lesson, etc., each elegantly told, is accompanied by a photograph of father and child(ren). I bought this as a gift for my father for Father's Day ['07] but after reading just a few pages into it I knew I needed a copy for myself, and I can't wait until I can give it as a gift to someone else.

I'm anxious to see what other projects come out of Julian Publishing.

Another great book in the idea of this is Dear Dad: Father, Friend, and Hero by Bradley Trevor Greive, author of "The Blue Day Book" which I happened to give to my father last year for Father's Day.

I still prefer American Daddy due to the impact of the firsthand stories and photos as opposed to animal pictures.

Reid wrote a book that covered many of the industries luminaries including Jerry Yang and Marc Andreessen and other forgotten people like Mark Pesce who dreamed too far ahead of the kerb.

The book dates better than business potraits because it allows insight into the creators of some of the webs cornerstones like Java and Yahoo! before the corporate comms people managed to use a PR backhoe loader to dump in excessive messaging, spin and massaging the annals of history.

Beach Day and all of the Mercer Mayer books have great story lines and are delightful reading for both children and adults. They teach children positive ways to deal with many differant issues. We have enjoyed them all.

Love these books....they were my favourite when I was younger and they've become my kids' favourite!

The book was about a snail who was trying to get the best father's day present ever. It starts out with the snail talking about his other father's day presents and how they were bad. He tells what his other father's day presents were. Then he sees his friends are going to the shop to get their father's day presents. The snail decides to go too, but his friends were the last three customers to get in because the store was closing early. When the snail was walking home, he found a rock with a ring on it. He gave this to his father who thought it was good luck. He also found a leaf cup filled with water.

I liked "The Best Father's Day Present Ever" by Christine Loomis because it was a book about snails and I like snails.

This is a great short book to read to children to teach them
that Father's Day is to celebrate a special male in their
family. It is very inclusive and suggests that if the child
does not have a father they can celebrate their grandfather, uncle or step-father.
