What an excellant book. This book is one of those books that you can sit down to glance through with your favorite hot beverage and a roaring fire feeling so relaxed. The patterns are inspiring as well and with all the wonderful fabrics out now they can be show cased by the patterns in this book. Last night I came home mentally exhausted from facts and figures all day. Decided that I needed a creative fix. Sat down and actually got a top all most together. The best therapy. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

An invaluable aid to understanding two very different types of china manufactured in England. Wonderful historical information, colored examples and close-ups make for accurate identification. Prices are volunteered for varying shapes, patterns, and sizes. A significant contribution in this field and a must-have book for any collector!

I don't really collect this sort of stuff but I loved this book because it brought back my childhood buying Beverly Hillbillies viewmaster sets, Charlie's Angels puzzles, etc. Contains hundreds of color photos of all sorts of merchandise: TV Guides, dolls, comic books, lunch boxes, coloring books, records, cups, all sorts of toys, etc. The shows profiled with memorabilia are The Beverly Hillbillies, Bewitched, Bionic WOman, Brady Bunch, Bugaloos, Charlie's Angels, Chips, Donny and Marie, Eight is Enough, Family, Family Affair, Fantasy Island, Flipper, Flying Nun, Gidget, Gilligan's Island, Good Times, Green Acres, H. R. Pufnstuf, Happy Days, Hardy Boys, I Dream of Jeannie, Josie and the Pussycats, Julia, Krofft Supershow, Kung Fu, Land of the Lost, Laverne and Shirley, Lidsville, Life & Times of Grizzly Adams, Little House on the Prairie, Love Boat, Mod Squad, Mork and Mindy, Nanny and the Professor, New Zoo Revue, Patridge Family, Patty Duke Show, Sigmund and the Sea Monsters, Six Million Dollar Man, Starsky & Hutch, That Girl, Three's Company, The Waltons, Welcome Back Kotter, Wonder Woman. There are estimated values for the items circa 1997 but I would argue few have really gone up since then due to the phenomeon of ebay where tons of this sort of stuff is now on the market and even if you don't collect it's a wonderful look back at when TV shows really merchandised to the hilt. The guys have an awesome collection!

I took a basic color and design class at a community college about a decade ago. We worked through similiar exercises to those in this book, but with paper, not with fabric as in this book. If you have wanted to take a basic color and design class at a college but don't have the time or resources, this is an excellent book. The only thing I like better about the college class is that you have a real person demanding your homework!

If you hated homework you won't like this book, but if you are willing to follow the instructions and trust the authors to lead you to new skills, you will come away from the lessons in this book with a better understanding of drawing and coloring ways to add to your personal style of making art quilts. I will do this and look forward to the experience!

Great book - perforated cards terrible
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-07-05
I love this book; however, be cautioned that the cards (look like paint chip cards) are horribly perforated making tearing out of book difficult. You need to cut the page as the perforation doesn't extend to the end of the page and even then you run the risk of ripping the card. After the first page, I tore out all pages and used my paper cutter. Also, the author should have labeled the cards on top, AWAY from the hole punch so when you place the cards on a ring, as suggested, you could fan them to see the "theme" first, then look down to the color scheme. The book suggests that you should choose theme before color and placing the theme (nostalgia, the 50's etc.) at the sight of the hole makes that very difficult. Besides that, it is a great find that answers one of the most difficult questions for many new cardmakers - what color cardstock should I use? Great model cards as well that offer inspiration and ideas. Well worth the cost; just re-do those perforated cards and label them away from hole!!

This was recommended in several craft magazines and the previous reviews were very flattering, so I ordered it and I'm so glad I did. The color charts are so handy to take with you when purchasing items for scrap booking or card making and there are so many samples in the book to give you great ideas.

I bought this book for myself, and then ordered one for a friend as a Christmas gift. It is perfect for people who have trouble deciding or knowing what colors to use together. I am a card maker, and I often find that I know what color base cardstock I want to use, but am unsure about what complimentary colors to use. This book has it all. If you purchase the book, I know you will use it constantly, as I do.

Sheila Wintle's Color Palette Applique patterns are not only absolutely beautiful, they are the best value I have found in the marketplace. Full size patterns, guidance as to value placement, and helpful instructions for choosing suitable fabrics are all included for an extremely reasonable price. I have all three of her patterns, and I eagerly await any new ones she produces.

Grow flowers for your wall or bed

Review Date: 2008-05-19
More patterns are coming out in packaging like dress patterns - everything in one re-sealable package. THE SEASONS IN BLOOM is one of these patterns. The plasticized envelope has the materials list right on the back, plus it lists the finished block and quilt size.

Inside, you will find pattern sheets that you can tack up on the wall or bulletin board. No more hunting for the book under the fabric you are cutting. These sheets contain all the information you will need to create this quilt including full sized templates of the four appliqué flower patterns and the border flowers too.

The instructions are clearly written and contain illustrations to help explain the written instructions. There is even an "extra" included. It is a booklet entitled "Color-Palette Appliqué". It explains how to gather a palette of colors and the best way to put the appliqué together.

There is another bonus. If you don't want to create a whole quilt, make just one of the four panels of flowers and use it as a wall hanging. You could even create all four flower pieces and use them as a "four seasons" wall hanging. So many ideas, so little time! Grab your copy and start "growing" your flowers.

Although I am a "child of the city", I must say that this elegant book gives me some pause. Not in this lifetime, but perhaps in the next, I will be fortunate enough to find myself among such lovely people doing such lovely things. See for yourself!

Strength is in the sharing of a sense of community.

While the "how-to" part of this book is important and useful, I especially like the sense of community that is communicated by the numerous quotes. (I would have enjoyed even more quotes.) The photographs in the book are beautiful, and the quality of the paper (it's nice and heavy) ensures that the book can withstand lots of use.

Community Quilts
Helpful Votes: 8 out of 8 total.
Review Date: 2001-02-19
This unique book records 25 years of quilting by a special group of women who live in a close knit community in rural North Carolina. These quilts were made for friends and neighbors, births and anniversarys, marriages and moving away. They are works of art. CQ gives much insight into the planning and production of these quilts and the recipients pleasure in receiving them. If you are interested in knowing just how to put a quilt together, this book will help you step by step. The group actually made a quilt to demonstrate for the book. The quilt will be donated to raise money for a new county library. The beautiful color photos and heartwarming stories make this book very appealing to quilters and others alike.

An elegant and highly recommended addition

Review Date: 2008-05-09
It's a commonly accepted dictum in the fashion world that accessories can enhance any outfit. This is especially true for needlecraft projects ranging from purses and bags, to shoes and scarves. Through the deft use of a sewing machine, embroidery can transform everyday commonplace accessories into one-of-a-kind designer originals. That's the message of embroidery expert and needlecraft veteran Eileen Roche in "Contemporary Machine-Embroidered Accessories" showcases illustrated, step-by-step instructions for twenty-four embroidery designs in machine formats for eighteen different do-it-yourself projects suitable for even the most novice needlecrafter. Enhanced with complementary outfit ideas and alternate color suggestions for each project, "Contemporary Machine-Embroidered Accessories" comes with an accompanying CD-Rom with the embroidery designs. "Contemporary Machine-Embroidered Accessories" is an elegant and highly recommended addition for personal and community library fashion and needlecraft collections in general, and embroider instructional reference collections in particular.

This book is outstanding! It has really easy to use time appropiate recipes that include options that might be easier to find today. This book covers American Indians, The Colonial Period, The Revolutionary War, Westward Expansion, The Civil War, and the last 6 chapters break up the U.S. and give recipes likely to be found in those areas. At the end of each chapter is a great resource of books on the subject with detailed discriptions that are VERY helpful! If you are a Teacher or a Homeschooler this book is a must!

It was hard to find this book on Amazon - but it is well worth getting! A lot of other Craft Show Guides have old shows, shows not out there anymore and many have gone. This book is up to date. Every show promoter in this book who I have contacted was greatly appretiative of knowing I found it in this book. The shows are good shows, large and small, in the area I want. I am thrilled that I discovered it and will be sure to spread the word!!! J.

We huddle around this great little book at a Craft Show searching for more shows, discussing which are the best, choosing our next shows to be in. It is such a handy tool for many of us looking for more fairs and festivals here in PENNA and all 8 states surrounding PENNA. Not only does it have many shows not listed in other publications, it has new shows as well as the old standbys. We think it's the greatest! Keep it up!
