I got this book from our church. I spent a lot of time reading it over a month. An excellent book, where the Gospel is presented clearly in no uncertain words.
The author did not waver in writing about what should a bible believing church have its foundations on. Christ is pointed at virtually on every page clearly. Although I would love to have been there on that road as Jesus put all the jigsaw together for those two people, Mr. Cross did a great job.
I am going to gift this to one of my friends and my younger brother.

I wish I knew about this book a couple of years ago. Its a wonderful survery of what the bible says about Gods plan for redemption. I have passed along my original purchase of this book and have purchased another to pass along as well. If you or someone you know is new to Christianity or checking it out please read this book.

A must read! Next to the Bible that is.

This book is a tremendous book. It is great when used by new Christians to help them put the plan of redemption into more basic terms. It is great when used as an evagelistic tool for those that would not otherwise read the Bible, to help them to understand - and hopefully read the Bible afterwards. It is great for those who have read the Bible, it brings up so many things that we ponder, and is a tremendous review. It is also great for a Bible study. It is great to read to children daily. I can not say enough good things about it. I have purchased many copies of this book to share with others.

An excellent explanation of the bible! Ties old and new testaments together and explains God's plan of salvation in the easiest format I have ever found. For those who find the bible confusing, don't have time to read it, or aren't sure what to believe, this book makes it all clear and easy to understand. We loved it so much that we have since purchased dozens of this book and hand them out to friends and family who have questions about what to believe in this age of questioning everything and "anything goes". My husband became a Christian after reading this book and finally understanding how we can be sure whether we will be in heaven one day or not, strictly according to the bible.

I purchased an earlier version of this book when my first child was an infant. I continued to use the book until they were teenagers. It was the most used of my parenting books. I purchase this book for shower gifts for soon-to-be moms. They will find it useful, when their child is ill, in making decisions about when to call the doctor and when not to worry.

I still have the copy of the book my mother-in-law gave me 30 years ago, and the worn cover reminds me of how often I referred to it while my now-adult children were growing up. I'm ordering 3 copies of the updated version today; it's the perfect gift for all the brand new parents I know. Want to know when to alienate the doctor by calling at midnight and when to wait until Monday morning? This book is The One..... Want to walk into the pediatrician's office with a clear, concise idea of what symptoms to convey? It's The One. Want to avoid a trip to the doctor's office or urgent care center altogether? This book can help you do that with confidence and a clear conscience. It's definitely an excellent buy for any and all parents.

This is a great guide. I received my copy in 1977 when my daughter was born. I used it for years! Loved the flow charts. Definately eases the panic of parents. Explains so much! I have bought several copies of this book-first for friends in the 70's having their children, and now the updated book for the next generation of new parents....our children having children.

This book is like having a doctor in the house. My pediatrician took me more seriously when I called because I only called or visited when it was truly necessary. This book is so helpful in the way it works you through the problem and informs you of what to expect when you do have to visit the doctor. I highly recommend this book to new parents; it will give you more credibility when you visit the doctor and you are not seen as an anxious new parent.

Wonderful Resource!!!

Review Date: 2009-05-21
My preschooler was having behavioral problems at school. One teacher said she needed to be in advanced studies and another said she needed to be held back. I had no idea where she was academically for her age. I had always relied on the school system to tell me how my child was doing and now I had two completely opposing views and a child who was unhappy in school.

I bought this series for grades preschool through second grade to determine where she fell. I used the books to supplement her education where I thought she was lacking. After four months not only was she accepted into a private school that teaches two grades advanced of standard, but they bumped her up a grade as well. She has completely stopped her behavioral problems and is happy in school again.

I would have never known what was the right the path for her, if this series had not helped me determine what a child of her age supposed to be learning.

I highly recommend this series for any parent who just wants to be informed about the educational standards and where their child falls. In addition, its a great resource for supplementing your child's education.

No one knows your child as well as you do, but you have to have the knowledge to make decisions. Without knowing what your child should know, how can you really be sure how well their doing?

In addition, I completely disagree with some reviewers who have claimed the books are racist. I was impressed with the multicultural approach of the books. The history section made a point to include important minorities, including women, asians, blacks, hispanics. The literature section included stories from asia and stories about slavery and women's rights. We did not studies those in school when I was growing up. I thought the book was well balanced.

If home schooling, I thought it made an excellent guide, but it doesn't claim to be a tool as your only resource. It would certainly need to be supplemented, but it provides a great guide for the topics that you would need to cover.

It is so interesting how many adoptees there are on here who are my age and raving about the book. I am 24, and I was adopted as a baby. I grew up reading this book and always understood that I was adopted. This book was SUCH a comfort to me and I would read it over and over. I came on here to buy one for friends who are adopting, in hopes that it will be of comfort to their little one. I definitly recommend this book, it was a great help to me.

I'm 23, my younger sister is 20. We are both adopted from seperate birthparents.
I don't remember not knowing I was adopted. I remember reading this book a lot though. My cousin and I would read it out loud to each other and laugh at the pictures. When my sister was old enough, two or three I think, I started reading it to her. This book is something that will always be a good memory. It helped me understand who I was and what it meant to be adopted.

As an adoptee, I remember reading and re-reading this book many times with my parents. This book was always on my bookshelf and did much to help me understand adoption, babies, family and most importantly the love my parents have for me. Like a reviewer before me, my original copy has been lost, lent with love to another family who had adopted a child. Now I can't wait to pass this on to another family, my friends who have recently adopted their own child. I know reading this book together will help strengthen their bond as she grows.

An earlier review criticized this book's readability and appropriateness for children. As a child who owned it, I do not believe that is an accurate assesment.

As a 25 year old adoptee, I have tremendously strong and positive memories of this book. Like other reviewers here, I can't remember the first time I read it... it was always a part of my reading life as a child.

I adored this book back then. I must have read it quite literally hundreds of times; enough so that at one point my mom had to sew the spine back on.

Once, I brought it to school for show and tell. I used it to show the other kids that I was pretty special, because there were books written about me! It just made me feel that my history as an adoptee was valuable.

I recommend this book to any families with adopted children, absolutely. Of course, open discussion about adoption should first and foremost come from the parents themselves... but as long as that is accomplished, I really believe that many adopted children will cherish this book as much as I did.

Excellent early math book
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2009-03-01
I found this book on a recommended Early Math reading list posted on the PBS Parents website.

Since there are no words in this book, there is nothing to actually read to your child. But it is likely one of the longest 12 page books I've read. And it is by far the most significant number book my 3 year old has read.

Anno uses a town to depict and define numbers 0-12, the seasons, and the months of the year. The seasons and months are recognizeable, but not the focus like the numbers are. For the number 0, you see a blank landscape with a small river. When the child turns the page, he sees a large number 1 on the right side of the book and in the landscape one lone building, one tree, one sun, one snowman.... There is also a set of blocks on the left side of the book, with one block colored in. Thus, the child can see the number 1 represented as a numeral, as a block (of a set of 10), and as an object (one building, one tree, one person). As you turn the pages and the numbers increase, a village forms. The final page is the number 12 -- a full village at Christmas time, complete with 12 reindeer in the sky.

As a parent, I enjoy having my daughter "read" to me. But I am most amazed by how the book has helped her to grasp the concept of numbers. As she explained, "0, Mommy. Because there's nothing there."

Best counting book ever

Review Date: 2008-09-27
This is, quite simply, the best book I've ever seen for familiarizing small children with the numbers from 0 to 12 (not for teaching them to read, because there is no text). However, it needs an attentive adult to go through slowly with the child, inventing a story to correspond with the pictures. I doubt whether a child could get much from it if left to go through it alone.

On page 0 there is nothing -- just a snow-covered hillside. On page 1 there is one building, one adult, one child, one animal, one bird, etc. On page 2 there are two of everything, until, at page 12 there is a complete little village. The choice of 12 steps in the story is not accidental or arbitrary, but corresponds to the number of months in the year, so we start in the dead of winter, move to spring, summer, autumn and back to winter again.

This book was purchesed for help on segmenting pepper-mill blanks.
The book focuses on bowls amd vases. However I did learn about many general issues related to segmenting; wood selection, glues, orientation of wood, etc.
I recommend this book for anyone interested in any form of segmenting. The author has done a great job of communicating his skills.

This is by far, the bible for segmented turning. I constantly refer to it to get ideas for new projects and hone my techniques. Even after several years of creating segmented bowls, I keep coming back to it for sound advice. Through experimentation, I developed a number of techniques for producing segmented bowls. But surprisingly, every single one of those techniques are described in this book. If I were to start over, this would be my single reference. Worth every penny.

I bought this book after downloading the sample from the publisher's website and my kids LOVE IT!! Even my 11 year old is having fun after each lesson doing the postcard. I have 2 children 9 & 11 and this is the only subject we truly do together and it's quick, easy - but in-depth. They ran around yesterday telling people that they were in the troposphere (which many adults didn't even know). So it's fun, enjoyable to read to them and even more fun that they sit back listen, ask good questions, and understand at the end of the chapter.

I love that "A Child's Geography" is written so simply, yet gives a wonderful depth of relavent information that leads the teacher and student on a wonderful journey through the world. It gives hands on activities and lists other outside sources that draw the student closer to the subject, tying the student to the place being studied. Some of the activities include notebooking & mapping activities, and "Excursions" that bring it to life, with text that is written with the curious student in mind, so they may practically apply it to their life. CD at the back of the book includes maps, quizes, postcards, and a Plate Tectonic Puzzle. Love it!

Our family enjoyed this book last year in our homeschool. It gives a wonderful, rich, homey feel to the study of the earth and its geography. It is written directly to the reader and makes an excellent read aloud. The explanations of difficult to understand concepts (such as why it is hotter in the summer when we are farther from the sun, and colder in the winter while we are closer to the sun) actually clarified some of my own thinking. One of our favorite projects was tracking the "ship wrecked shoes" using lattitude and longitude. Talk about making a dry subject interesting. This is a lovely book that will appeal to many people (especially to those following a charlotte mason philosophy) and has been an asset in our home.

More Than Just a Geography Book

This is more than your typical geography book. In addition to such mundane terms as the equator and the hemispheres that we are all familiar with, you'll learn about the atmosphere, seismic waves, the hydrosphere, cartography...166 pages may not seem like much but this book has a lot to offer. Its conversational style and well thought out activities will make it a welcome addition to your homeschooling library. Examples of activities are making a model of the atmosphere, making an edible earth out of ice cream, investigating the earth's plates with play dough (including a recipe for making your own play dough), making a clock to tell the world's timezones, and much more. It includes a CD with templates for some of the activities as well as copywork.

But what I love about this book is its focus on the fact that this is God's world, not ours and how awesome His world is. The quality of the book itself is very good, the pages are thick and glossy, and full-color pages are alternated with black-and-white pictures.

My only real qualm is that this book is not available in hardcover, preferably a library binding, because I know I'll be using it for many years to come!

Divine Kosher Cuisine: Catering to Family and FriendsIt was nine months before I first used my copy of Divine Kosher Cuisine. This past Sukkot I invited my synagogue congregation to an open house brunch in our sukkah. I used the recipes in Divine Kosher Cuisine for everything I served, over one dozen different items from the Appetizer, Brunch and Salad selections. I was so frequently asked for recipes that I simply brought out the cook book and placed it in the center of my table. My own personal favorite is the Nova Strata....amazing! Since then, this cook book has been in constant use. My guests and I have never been disappointed!

This book looks expensive only until you see it ... In truth, it would be a bargain at any price. The recipes are all thoroughly tested tried-and-true favorites written as clearly as possible to virtually guarantee success.

Although it obviously holds special appeal for those who keep kosher, the delectable recipes will appeal to anyone with tastebuds. (I'm Protestant, and love this book -- as does everyone I've given it to.) Every single recipe I've tried has been sensational!

Don't miss this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

one of the best cookbooks in my collection

This cookbook is really great. The recipes do work - and are tasty. many are not too much of a patchke ( I do have a busy schedule, like many people -but I also love to eat well). The lay-out is also beautiful .
I do not easily say it , but this time I do : I would rank this one as a must-have in a (kosher )cookbook collection
