What a fun little book! I went to see the William Steig exhibition at the Jewish Museum in NY and was fascinated by his art. There aren't too many books on William Steig available (at least not on Amazon), so I bought this one and the Jewish Museum book on William Steig. I loved this little book, it's great quality and nice pictures. Highly recommended!

This is a delightful children's book about the boyhood of its author, 95 year old William Steig. The book is both personal and historical as Steig recounts the time in America "when everybody wore a hat." Steig, an artist whose drawings have appeared regularly in "The New Yorker" magazine since 1930, is both the books's illustrator and writer. Grandparents looking for a book that they can read to their grandchildren that will inspire good additional conversation should buy this book.

This is a autobiography of popular children's William Steig. He tells us of the year when he was 8 years old. Things were much different in the world then. There was no tv, fire engines were pulled by horses and everybody wore a hat! Mr. Steig tells us about his parents and family life as well. We learn that his parents were immigrants and spoke 4 languages!

The book was easy to read. There were very few words per page. This makes it great for all ages.

I would recommend this book to others. It's fun to learn about life long ago.

"In 1916, when I was eight years old, there were almost no electric lights, cars or telephones-and definitely no TV. Even fire engines were pulled by horses. Kids went to LIBRARIES for books. There were lots of immigrants..." William Steig takes the reader back to the simpler times of his childhood when mother bought her meat at the butchers, boys didn't play with girls, a nickel could buy you a hot dog, a pound of fruit, or a day at the movies, you didn't go to the doctor's office, the doctor came to your house, everyone wanted to have his picture taken on a horse, and everybody wore a hat. "There was no such thing as a hatless human being." Written as if by an eight year old, Mr Steig's remembrances are sometimes poignant and always heartwarming and complemented by his marvelous, expressive childlike illustrations. Adults will revel in all the nostagia, and kids will be intrigued by how different life was at the beginning of the last century. When Everybody Wore A Hat is a charming slice of history, best read together and shared, that will whet the appetite, open interesting discussions, and send youngsters out looking for more.

This book is a very moving account of one woman's struggle against the health care system and her son's autism. There is definitely much food for thought here, and hopefully a scientific link between autism and vaccines can be established for the sake of those who have been afflicted. This material is frightening to say the least as autism can easily seem like somone else's problem and easily ignored, until it happens in your family as it did this woman. I read this book to educate myself on vaccinations as I have a newborn son and am now going through the loops on how best to get my son vaccinated with out overwhelming his body. I have avoided the Hep B vaccination as of this time.

For the most part I enjoyed this book and did find it to be extremely informative in certain chapters where Converse expresses her case clearly for not admistering the Hep B vaccination. However, I also found myself skipping over whole sections that I thought to be overly detailed and repetitive about her struggle to get doctors and family members to understand her situation. This book is as much a therpeutic release for the author as it is an attempt to inform the public. Still, I would say that this book is a must read for anyone interested in the Hep B vaccination and its links to autism.

Reading this book saved my son from further damage.

My son had so many of the problems and symptoms that Judy's son had early on. Before reading her book, I recognized, on pure instinct only, that the vaccines were harming him, as he became worse and worse after each series. And just like Judy's doctors, our doctor was dismissive and arrogant which drove me to do my own exhaustive research to heal my son. For those whose children have been similarly harmed and want to stop vaccinating, read Vitamin C, Infectious Diseases, and Toxins by Thomas E. Levy for a better understanding of how to protect against infectious disease.

I had read 30 different books on Autism and related topics, before I read "When Your Doctor is Wrong,...". Her book was a validation of everything that all those other books left out. Finally someone looked at the one shot I knew was our problem Hep B. I got the book in the mail on a Friday, and finished it before going to sleep on Friday night. I felt like our families knew each other in the similarities. You hear so much about the MMR or the DPT, finally Judy gives us a clue to what may be triggering ALL of the others. Or, we may have to look at the possibility that different vaccines cause reactions in different children. For the first time, a book on Autism left nothing out that affected us. I always knew that the Hep B caused my daughters problems but no one else has mentioned it. I cried when I realized that five months of screaming as an infant was "NOT" colic. Judy's indignant anger shows through, yet is controlled, reasonable and above all understandable. Despite everything this family endured they also kept a healthy sense of humor. When you hear her story, you can relate to the treatment parents receive when doctors think they are right but you know they are wrong, because our gut instinct as a mother tells us so. Then she gives ideas on how to help your child to recover as best as possible, and the necessity of early diagnosis and intervention to have the greatest affect. This is a great read, like a mystery and adventure, but, it is a true story and on one of the most important topics of our day. Nice to get some validation from not just a parent but a professional in her own right with the knowledge we REALLY need to help our kids. This book helped me make discovery's and come to grips with my situation, other conditions and situations in my family and a new approach to everything, not just the Autism. Thanks to the author for doing this so well.

Thank you for reading my book. I am compelled to tell you that the reviewer who said I found coffee problematic must have me confused with someone else. I love coffee and, no, it did not cloud my thinking when I wrote this book.

Super job explaining the Hep "B" vaccine and it's problems.
The author tells the story that is heart wrenching and accurate.

I also read a book dealing with Autism and Thimerosal (mercury) poisoning called Mercury: The winged Messenger. If you liked
When Your Doctor is Wrong, Hepatitis B vaccine and autism, you will be blown away by Mercury: The Winged Messenger. This book deals with the Political side of this tragedy with a stinging
slap against the Pharmaceutical / Political establishment that in fact poisoned an entire generation of children for increased corporate profits.

Both books are a must read for every parent dealing with this
National health crisis.

Rose Sweet's book is one of the most helpful things I read after my own divorce became final. Since then I've become a family counselor specializing in divorce, so now I read many books on this topic. I continue to pick up Rose's book to read favorite passages again: she writes with a clear understanding of how divorce feels, and what to do about it. This excellent book will not disappoint you!

Pretty general - easy to read. Not a lot of substance to help you discover what really went wrong. My suggestion is another book called "Rebuilding: When Your Relationship Ends" by Dr. Bruce Fisher and Dr. Robert Alberti. That book will help you address the tough issues that will help you move on with life in a healthy way.

Why Reinvent The Wheel!

Review Date: 2009-06-05
What if someone could hand you a recipe for success and this recipe could potentially turn into an exciting invitation to The Women's Millionaire Club - would you be interested in learning what the current members did to earn this financially secure membership?

The book, The Women's Millionaire Club by Maureen G. Mulvaney is truly the first time I've read such a comprehensive survey of traits regarding self-made women millionaires, especially women who made their millions with home-based businesses. It's like being able to sit around and casually glimpse into the minds of twenty highly successful and motivated goal-oriented women millionaires.

Maureen's book is filled with practical and real world "secrets" of women who became home-based millionaires. I believe the premise of this book is bigger than "home-based business" success - it gives us a valuable look into what millionaire women believe to be most important for achieving, sustaining and enjoying personal, professional and financial success.

The Women's Millionaire Club is filled with facts, statistics and real-world success tips regarding the power of creating passive income. I'm a big believer that passive income is a realistic and viable way to grow wealth.

Hours for dollars pay at a day-to-day job can only net you a certain amount of income over your lifetime. An hours for dollars job means you are limited in your earning potential by the hours you can physically work each day, week and month. Passive income, on the other hand, is about leveraging your time. It is about making money even while you're on vacation, enjoying quality time with your family or getting a good night's sleep.

The women millionaires Maureen interviewed and profiled in her book have turned their home-based businesses into a source of passive income. Here is proof that network marketing is a viable business model for women who want a home business. These women grew their businesses into an income of seven figures not only for themselves but to insure financial security for their family.

The Women's Millionaire Club provides us a way to learn from these women who have been there, grew successful businesses and are now enjoying the rewards of their effort. Success truly does leave clues.

I believe the Table of Contents will give you an even better idea of what I'm talking about:

Part I - The World of Women Millionaires

1 - The Recipe For Success
2 - The History of Network Marketing
3 - Home-Based Businesses Today
4 - The Women's Millionaire Club Survey
5 - The Women's Millionaire Club Behavioral Traits and Energy Profile
6 - The First Ingredient: Know What You Want
7 - The Second Ingredient: Believe You Can Have It
8 - The Third Ingredient: Take Action
9 - The Fourth Ingredient: Give Thanks

Part II - Women Millionaire Profiles

Maureen Mulvaney interviewed twenty successful millionaire women who were willing to share seven aspects of their lives:
1. Their background
2. When and how they decided to succeed
3. Their why and inner motivators
4. Their strengths
5. The benefits of being a women and how it helped them succeed
6. Their ingredients for success
7. Their legacy

What do you think? If you don't have to reinvent the wheel and can learn from millionaire women who have already blazed a trail, wouldn't you want to read and absorb what they have to share?

I highly recommend The Women's Millionaire Club by Maureen Mulvaney. The best part, this is not an exclusive club. Maureen shows us that membership is open to all women who want to learn, grow and take positive action.

I have been a business woman for years and was tired of all the long hours and not getting anywhere. Learning about network marketing or as MGM says "friendship marketing" has given me a new lease on my working years. Since discovering "The Book", my PrePaid Legal business is running more smoothly. This book is an inspiration and gives me insights on what it takes to become a lady millionaire. I have read it more than once and it will be on my night stand for a long, long time. This book should be the foundation of everyone's work-at-home resource library. My wife bought it for me so that I could understand the true "ins and outs" of what's involved in working from home with kids under foot. (My wife has been telecommuting from home on a part-time basis for about two years, and I must admit, I've been less than supportive.) Recently, I decided to make the plunge to start a home business and take on a good portion of the child care responsibilities. We searched high and low for resources that could help. "The Work at Home Balancing Act" was the *only* book we found that addresses ALL the issues and challenges of working at home from both a MALE and FEMALE perspective. It's been our lifesaver because we can both relate to it, and it teaches us how to communicate about complicated issues that arise when you work from home. It's written in a reader-friendly style with great quotes and stories from men and women--very realistic and motivational. Lots of nuts and bolts strategies--everything you need to know to set up and run a successful home business or telecommuting arrangement, and then some!

Thank you, thank you for a "woman's perspective on Y2K. It was such an encouragement to learn that there are lots of other women who are frustrated by their husband's cavalier attitude at what could be a significant problem. Fortunately, my husband has started reading it and says that "maybe she has a point . . ." He really is taking it serious now since "60 Minutes" said it could be bad. The recent segment they ran solidified what Karen and other Y2K writers have been saying about this impending crisis.

Thank you for a well-written and helpful resource.

Karen Anderson is probably the best-informed source for preparing for possible Y2K disruptions at home. While some are now saying that Y2K will be no big deal, the fact is, no one really knows what will happen. Many Y2K-knowledgeable people are saying we all need to be prepared in case normal life, with electricity and water on demand, etc., is disrupted for a time. Even Y2K expert Peter de Jager, who now says "we have broken the back of Y2K," still recommends preparing for one month of disruptions, just in case. Anderson's book will tell you everything you need to know about getting ready at home. She even recommends gathering a little extra, to share with those who may be unable to prepare ahead of time, in the spirit of community preparedness. I recommend this book highly.

Whether or not the Y2K Millenium Bug turns out to be a frightening fact or fabulous fizzle, emergency preparedness is a topic that everyone should investigate -- especially families with children at home. You never know when sudden financial down turns could make food purchasing difficult, or a severe winter storm could keep your family confined to home for an extended period of time, or even an earthquake could cause the need for emergency essentials on hand. While I'm not sure what I personally feel about the outcome of the Y2K computer problem, I do see the common sense idea of family preparedness to be a good approach for anyone to seriously consider. Having a well-stocked rotating pantry that's replenished from items purchased in bulk and on sale is also a great way to save money on your family's regular expenses (Y2K or not!). I appreciated the author's detailed list of suggestions for items to store ahead (whether you're planning a storage system to last for one week, six months, or a full year+).

In this third entry in the Boxcar Children series the Alden children (Henry 16, Jessie 14, Violet 12 and Benny 7), ask their grandfather about the mysterious yellow house on their island. He tells them a story about the long missing Bill McGregor, husband of the family housekeeper. The children and their cousin Joe and his new bride Alice decide to locate the missing man when they uncover an overlooked clue to his whereabouts. The six set out to Maine following the clue and along the way have many adventures.

This book was originally written in 1953 by a teacher who combined a basic vocabulary and exciting storyline in order to entice young readers. Her formula was and is a great success. To an adult the mysteries involved are rather simplistic, the situations more than a little unrealistic and the characters quite wooden but to the children the stories are written for these are exciting stories with thrilling adventures around every twist and turn. Just the thing to get a reluctant reader inspired to read for fun.

In the early sixties one of my teachers kept our 5th grade class entralled by reading to us the last few minutes of each day. The Boxcar Children were always a popular choice, the short cliffhanger style chapters kept us anxiously waiting for the next reading and stirred up more than a few schoolyard discussions on what might happen next. It inspired me to go canoe camping in the northwoods years later and share that adventure and The Boxcar Children with my children.

Sara Burns makes the world of medical transcription come alive to those unfamiliar with the field and creates a "chum-hood", if you will, to those of us who share experience in the field, to the point of pure nodding hilarity in which we can identify with common experiences.

Her book is an absolute delight to read. As a medical transcriptionist for almost 20 years, I feel she blends a perfect recipe of information, heaping cupfuls of wit and humor, and plenty of wisdom from her 29 years of experience. She offers everything from practical advice for not only the prospective or new transcriptionist but also wisdom to benefit the seasoned transcriptionist that adds spice to a job you already love. Many times, this book is just plain fun that will have you laughing out loud.

I absolutely loved her chapter, "You Might be a Transcriptionist if ... ," which had me cackling to the point of my tummy almost hurting, and I found myself filling in the blanks with my own experiences on the job. It would be fun for all of us MTs to send Mrs. Burns our "You might be's" so she could be the beneficiary of the same types of wonderful hoots she provided the reader. What an absolutely clever and fun chapter. Quite a change from some of the usual material on the subject of medical transcription, which tends to be on the rather dry and serious side, making one wonder if the field of medical transcription is devoid of individuals with an ounce of personality. Certainly, Sara debunks that speculation and offers her charmingly infectious personality. She draws you into her world and lets you know enough about her own life story that just fills you with a desire to sit with her in a couple of cozy chairs, sipping tea, and asking her to share more stories about herself and this interesting profession.

Funny thing is, working at home, we don't always have another transcriptionist friend ready at hand to talk to. Reading Sara's book was like having a luncheon with her, sharing the ups and downs of the job, the hysterical things that happen, helpful hints, pros and cons ... you name it, she covered it. She essentially became my mate for the duration of the book. I also so appreciated hearing some of her faux pas, gaining comfort from the fact that even a seasoned transcriptionist makes mistakes. Goodness, when you are an independent contractor, you are your own worst critic, so knowing that even the mature transcriptionist makes a mistake here and there, is able to laugh about it, and then move on is ever so comforting. Even the cartoons were a hoot because she nailed every aspect of being a home-based transcriptionist.

My conclusion: We transcriptions have needed a book like this. Sara Burns has filled the void. Many of us are fun, we love our job, and it is far from boring. I definitely would recommend this to those looking into the field and those new to the field, as there is much sound advice given from a woman with vast experience. Additionally, this is a book I would highly recommend to the seasoned transcriptionist who will find themselves smiling and laughing throughout as we can identify with every aspect of what she shares and even gain some helpful tips and new perspectives on our profession. It is simply a refreshing book. Finally, I even think physicians would benefit a great deal from reading her book as they could gain an understanding of what we have to deal with as a transcriptionist, might even laugh at themselves, and might even gain a greater appreciation for those of us who work so hard to make them sound their best.

So, two thumbs up for Sara. Get this book. You not only won't be disappointed, but you will be glad you did because you will have had so much fun ... it's not just a "how to" but a wonderful story that unfolds in the process. Enjoy!

This was a good book that help me realize I do not want to seek a job as medical transcriptionist.

The previous reviews give an excellent description Sara Burns' book, so I will not repeat what they have to say as I agree with their reviews and praise. I have been in the field for many years and found Sara's book to be a wonderful compellation of wisdom, humor, practical advice, and refreshing honesty, written in a lighthearted, easy, and witty style. I enjoyed Sara's book from start to finish and was sad to turn the last page. I found myself nodding in agreement and smiling with understanding at the humerous, frustrating, and fulfilling moments that she describes so well. With so many years of experience, Sara's insights and practical suggestions will be invaluable to someone considering medical transcription and will provide a good understanding of all aspects of this field. She has a way with words that will hold your attention, whether you are someone looking to get into the field or have worked in the medical field for years. I highly recommend her book - read it slowly and enjoy it!

I absolutely love this book. I was so happy with it that I ordered 3 more for my transcriptionist friends. I find myself constantly quoting something from the book while I am at work. I also have a better understanding of how my doctors feel some days by the time they get to the office. I was amazed at the similarities that we transcriptionists have. We are certainly not alone in our love for our work and in our frustrations that we have at times.

My son loves mysteries and we have been delighted with the Cam Jansen books. In this one she must not only use her great photographic memory but also a little deducing to figure out the culprit that took the cookie. Recommended for ages 5-8 years.

My daughter is 5 (almost 6) and in kindergarten. She progressed very quickly this year from sounding out words, to reading simple picture books to needing something at the next level - easy enough that she could read it on her own but more challenging, with a real plot. I went to the library and read and looked at a lot of books with her - Magic Treehouse, Cam Jansen (the older version), Junie B. Jones - and found that Young Cam Jensen was just right (as they say!) - it captured her interest, she can read one in one or two sittings, and she has a great feeling of acocmplishment since it's a "big-kid" chapter book. Once she's read through this series I think she'll be ready for the others I mentioned, which are just a bit too hard for her to read on her own now. (Personally I find the writing flat and dull - I prefer the books we read together, like Roald Dahl - but she's happy!)

I have a 2nd grader who is an average reader. We have a great time readying these together. It's fun but also gives her a bit of a challenge. She feels great as she can now read "Chapter" books! LOVE THE SERIES!

You have to love Cam Jansen. When you're a kid, you read all of these stories about magic powers, mystery, and adventure. But everyone tells you magic can't exist. Cam Jansen manages to solve every case without the use of magic... she's a real girl. That's what makes her special and what makes you want to red more and more. Cam Jansen is a real kid superhero, and the thought that a person like her could actually exist... makes her the best kid detective ever!

Awesome help with home buying and sales!

Vitt's book has been a tremendous help to us with the complicated and emotional process of buying and selling our homes. We knew we wanted to move, but each of us had very different ideas of what the "perfect home" would be like. Our differences sometimes seemed insurmountable. Also, it was often hard to understand why we were looking for certain characteristics in a home, and why we wouldn't compromise. Fond memories of homes that we had loved mixed and collided with current and future needs. For example, one of us wanted a wooded lot on a quiet street above all else; the other didn't care about location but wanted the home to be big enough to meet our need for interior space. We couldn't find a property that suited us both; how could we resolve this potential pitfall? Ms. Vitt gave us a structure for examining our motives and hopes, as well as a way to resolve our differences and find a home we can both love.

Also, the financial aspects of the decision-making process were important, and "10 Secrets" gave us a very clear path for avoiding potential financial disasters.

A home is so important, both emotionally and financially. "10 Secrets" gave us the tools and information we needed to navigate our way to successfully buy a home.

Also, we were so impressed with Vitt's book, that we gave a copy to our realtor, who frequently has to negotiate between couples, as well as between buyers and sellers. A Must-Buy for Realtors, too!

Have given copies to friends who are thinking about moving. Great gift.

Well-written, well-organized, an awesome book!

I purchased this book on the advice of a friend. After determining my housing profile I purchased ten additional copies as holiday gifts for colleagues. This book is the first of it's kind and will assist you in understanding how your housing decisions are made and how to make your home a place of happiness and not only financial but emotional security. I found myself highlighting passages as I went along for quick future reference. I would highly recommend this book to anyone - no matter what your living/financial situation.

Yippee!! I made the decision...

to stay in my house! Having recently gone through a divorce, and somewhat uncomfortable with my neighborhood, which has a very different demographic from mine, I struggled with how I could manage the house on my own, and finance numerous small and large repairs without taking on too much debt.

After taking the quiz, I realized that the financial stability of my house is the most important factor I needed to satisfy. Once I realized that...it was much easier to invest a few thousand dollars to update the furnishings and to make the house more like a home that reflected my personality. I was also able to take on additional debt to make some costly, but necessary repairs, such a new foundation and sewer line. In doing so, I found a way to restructure my entire debt load that allows me one smaller monthly payment, leaving me with a greater monthly cash flow.

I can honestly say that I wouldn't have had the courage to undertake the repairs, and take on the additional debt, if I hadn't read this book. Having a clear insight into my issues surrounding "home" and understanding more clearly my emotional profile, I was able to make my need structure work in my favor, instead of against me. Without this book, I would probably have sold the house at a discount, and made another, equally unsatisfying move.

At last a book that entertains you while giving solid information. I especially like the way this author uses flesh and blood real people to illustrate her points. I'm halfway through already in one day --maybe I'll write another when I finish it.

I have worked with Dr. Vitt for many years, and I am always amazed when the final product arrives. This book is just one of many of the remarkable things she has written, but this book alone has been the greatest help to me in deciding to refinance my home, an idea I had been toying with for a long time. After rereading it for pleasure and learning, rather than editing, I have learned a great deal more about the dynamics of buying, selling or refinancing my own home, and for this I am grateful to Dr. Vitt. This book should be a great help to anyone who is considering any kind of housing change.
