Wonderful and fresh approach with unusual examples of works not normally seen in books printed in the U.S. combine to send the reader on a quest for more. This small Bible of art, thought, and expression challenges the reader to begin on his own, not by copying some master of the past or present. NO technique rules here, only helpful hints and a path to mastery of your own creativity.

Clay's Handbook of Environmental Health is a consice guide to the career of Environmental Health, and provides an exellent tool for any Enviromental Health Officer. The handbook covers the main areas of Environmental health, and is useful as a all round guide of the career. Clay's is a good study guide, and reference guide for students studying Environmental Health ,and would be an investment to any student as it acts as a good bookcase filled to aid newly qualified students, and when not using it , it acts as a wonderful doorstop. Clay's handbook of Environmental Health is a very good basebook and is very useful to the new EHO starting out in their career.

Great kid devotion book!

While this book's price is high, it's probably to cover for the full color inside. Lisa has written a great devotion book for kids to play with thier hands while learning a practical Biblical life lesson. I recommend it to anyone who wants an attention getting creative ideas for thier kids. We use it everyday in our kids church, at the end of the service we divide into small groups and everyone has a time to share, play and learn. After going through the book you'll then be coming up with "clayvotions" on your own!

An Accessible Guide to Thinking About Cities
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2001-09-10
Close-Up is a fun and friendly guide to thinking about American cities generically. With it you can begin to understand why cities look the way they do, why they are organized the way they, and ewhy they change the way they change. I have used this book teaching urban theory to both undergraduates and graduate students, and they have found it eye-opening; it made them see their city in a whole new way. The drawings are fun and informative. Though this book was written in 1973, which makes some of its examples dated, the insights it gives into urban form are not dated at all, and should be useful well into the 21st century.

Re-Thinking Nature in New York City

Review Date: 2008-07-31
Matthew Gandy's CONCRETE AND CLAY is a sweeping history of the different ways in which nature has been reworked in New York City. It includes an historical account of the ways in which the current water system was put in place. It also offers an in-depth discussion of the Olmstedian ideology of nature and space, a useful way for framing the ways in which construction and land use has functioned in NYC over time. In addition to these important historical insights, the book also offers a glimpse into early forms of local organizing in what would later take the distinct shape of the environmental justice movement in the history of the Young Lords. But because the book is specifically about NYC, Gandy focuses his attention on the Lords' movement in the city, while only offering a nod to the successful organizing campaigns that took place in cities like Chicago. This history of Young Lords activism against environmental neglect is often left out of mainstream historical accounts. Gandy situates it center stage and thus honors the impact the initial sanitation movement had for not just the Puerto Rican population, but for the city at large. This book is a must read for anyone interested in a different type of history of New York City, one taken from a perspective that challenges more common ideas about urbanity transcending nature.

Thought-provoking and thorough

This book is rich with ideas and provides a thought-provoking analysis of television and its impact on culture. It would no doubt be interesting to anthropologists of modern culture, sociologists, and the general public. We often forget about the powerful influence of this pervasive medium, but its impact is undeniable. By making this implicit impact explicit, Consuming Environments helps us become more reflective consumers of television content.

Over fifty works by modern clay artists are profiled in CONTEMPORARY CLAY: JAPANESE CERAMICS FOR THE NEW CENTURY, a catalog which follows the most innovative of Japanese ceramists. Puts range from porcelains with Chinese inspirations from the past to contemporary modern designs and provide a survey of different uses of modern forms, along with artist reactions to the new clay works. Each artist receives a full page photo and a facing page describing training and the evolution of repertoire and direction, making CONTEMPORARY CLAY an outstanding presentation recommended for art library collections.

Another gem in the fine Cook's Encyclopedia series of cookbooks

Terrific! The wide variety of one-pot recipes (from stews to risottos, soups, fish and pasta dishes, vegetarian recipes, and even some delightful desserts) is exceptional. This is what I've come to expect from the Cook's Encyclopedia series. As in the other books I have in this series, this one doesn't limit recipe selections to U.S. cuisine, but marvelous international recipes are included as well. Particularly helpful is the abundance of color photographs of the dishes -- it always helps me to picture what I'm aiming for with a new recipe.

I really must recommend to anyone buying this cookbook to make the Baked Maple & Pecan Croissant Pudding -- it's fabulous! In fact, if it weren't for the great casseroles and fish dishes, I'd say the dessert section is worth the price of admission alone.

If you are hesitating, I say 'buy this cookbook!' At the very least it will inspire you. And one-pot cooking is such an energy-efficient way to cook making clean-up less of a hassle -- and the left-overs are always better the next day.

This is one cookbook I turn to on my (very) crowded cookbook shelf and I firmly believe that you will too.
