When freshman college student Carol entered a hated math teacher's class, her life would change as they debated and confronted each other over the course of some twenty-three months. A striking novel of confrontation, ideals and change makes for evocative and smooth reading and will enhance any public library fiction collection.

Humor, conflict, personal success and a big surprise!

As a first novel published, it's filled with twists and turns, character building and easily read. The family dynamics make you root for the heroine, and the dedication of the hero makes you love him.

Study a winning strategy

This education guide presents an outline, including page numbers to the collected and selected works of Lenin's most important works. This class outline will help workers and students focus on Lenin's writings dealing with the road to political power. Labor struggles are beginning to break out with greater frequency today, pointing to the fact that our class doesn't have to be told to fight. We are not submissive when it comes to defending our interests. But what is not so easy is the confident resolve based on scientific understanding of the need to fight to win. We are taught by the misleaders and advisors of labor that we should fight "the good fight," overcome through love and nonviolence, and by all means honor the system. In other words, we are instilled with a spirit of losing. Lenin educates us in the exact opposite approach: the need for workers and farmers to seize power away from the enemies of humanity, institute a workers and farmers government, and move toward a dictatorship of the proletariat. In these writings he debates Karl Kautsky, whom he described as preaching to the workers to "fight, but not dare to win." Two short introductions to the study outlines will help you organize a lively series of classes on the struggle for power, the central question for workers today.

Ever wanted to delve into V.I. Lenin, the icon of the Russian Revolution? Here's your chance.

This booklet, distributed by Pathfinder Press, offers a clear and succinct approach on the "Class Forces and Strategy in the Russian Revolution (1902-1917)" and "Soviet Power and the Communist International (1918-1919)."

The first collection is a guide to Lenin on such topics as the rural question, the Provisional Revolutionary Government of Russia, the revolutionary army and the proletariat. It draws a context for the Russian revolution by examining Lenin's thoughts on the 1789 French revolution and the 1848 revolution in Germany.

The second collection compiles Lenin's writing on subjects such as the constituent assembly, the Soviet constitution, bourgeois vs. proletarian democracy and the worker-peasant alliance. The study guide has compiled these topics to illustrate how Lenin attempted to explain that revolutionaries in other countries could draw upon the example of the Russian revolution.

Perfect Companion for Stepfamilies

Terri Clark has written an insightful and extremely helpful book about stepfamily dynamics. Drawing from her own personal experience, the book is divided up into two parts. In the first, Clark shares the obstacles and challenges that she faced in her own stepfamily. She offers biblically based encouragement to those in similar situations. In the latter part of the book, she brings stepfamily life down to a practical level, sharing tips on shopping, organization, interacting with other households, etc.
I strongly recommend this to stepfamilies and even better, individuals who are thinking of marrying and bringing stepchildren into a relationship.

A must for anyone who remarries where children are involved!

This is an awesome book! It has so much great advice for couples who have a blended family. I am fortunate to have one daughter who has adapted quite well since I have remarried. She was the only child in our blended family until we had our first in August. She even enjoys her new baby sister and is not jealous. We were already doing many of the things that Terri mentions in her book, such as morning devotionals, prayer, church and consistency in all areas. Being consistent is one of the biggest factors in helping a child adjust.

The chapter, "Before You Hire An Attorney", is great. I no longer have fears from my ex threatening to take me back to court. It would be a waste of his time.

I would greatly recommend reading this book before you bring children into a blended family. Having this wonderful knowledge beforehand would make the transition/adjustment easier for the children.

This book has really given me the confidence to know that I'm doing the right things for my children as a mom. I'm glad Terri could use her personal experience to help me and many others.

This book is intriguing, compelling, and darkly humorous all at the same time. I could not put it down. The author deals with a dark and difficult subject with sensitivity and humor. The ending is fabulous.

I do not want to give anything else away but would highly recommend this first novel by EL Clark

The book begins with a quick general overview on Greek ceramics - its history, techniques, trajectory in themes, artists, mythological characters, Greek culture/society that finds itself within the art, etc - that provides the reader with a pretty good base for the number of pages it takes up. There is then a short section on the 'conservation and care of ancient Greek ceramic objects' that explains some more technical things.

After that comes the large section on Greek potters and vase painters, listed in alphabetical order and accompanied by colorful and informative images of the relevant vases. The artist's period, name, style and whatnot are explained in detail. Definitions for unfamiliar terms used in this section can be found in the next part of the book, which explains vase shapes and technical terms in normal English (also with nice images). Thus through the cross-referencing, most of the book's content can be understood without much trouble. At the end is a chart of vase shapes, which is useful because you can compare them without having to flip a single page.

This book is excellent for purposes of quick reference. I would say that most people would not read it like they would a novel, but if you have any interest in Greek vase paintings, this is an excellent book to have.

Understanding Greek Vases

Review Date: 2004-08-01
Understanding Greek Vases, published by the Getty Museum, is a compact reference guide that provides the essential background (painters, styles, terminology) needed to study and appreciate ancient Greek vases.

The major part of the book consists of short (half-page), encyclopedia-style, entries for Athenian potters, vase-painters, ceramic styles, and other essential terminology. Coverage, although limited to Athenian pottery, is broad and expert, ranging from "bilingual vases" to "Six's technique." Entries are generously illustrated, mostly in color, by important examples (including many "name vases") from museum collections in the U.S. and abroad.

What really sets this book apart is that the individual entries are so extensively cross-referenced, that they look and feel more like a hypertext-linked web site than a conventional book. For example, if you look up the entry for the "Brygos Painter," you'll get cross-references in the text to three other Cup-painters, to Cup-painting itself, to the Pioneers, to Workshops, to Attribution, to Kylix, and to seven illustrations.

This is an amazingly effective reference, one that I will use often at home, and take with me whenever I go to look at Greek vases in a museum. Tip: don't plan to read it cover-to-cover like an ordinary book. Begin with some topic that interests you, and follow the cross-references as you would with a Web page.

Jeff's done an exemplary job with this work. A fantastic hard cover, coffee table style book. Very in-depth, wonderfull photos. As a collector of this militaria for many years, this work is a huge help. There's simply nothing better to aid in identifying & understanding the nuances of the rank system or providing the detail that Jeff has supplied here. This is one of those 'must have' reference works for any serious collector of German militaria. Well Done!!!

The photos are large and clear. The details are profuse. I used this as reference for a political illustration where pinpoint accuracy was paramount. This book filled the bill. I realize the applications for such a text are limited. However when you need the information you need it. I would recommend this book unequivocally to anyone who needs this specific information. It is informative and very well formatted.

The discovery of a new Monet

Review Date: 2007-08-02
This book, the catalogue for a travelling exhibition held in 2007, enables the reader to discover an often overlooked aspect of Monet's art. The drawings and, above all, the pastels shown and explained here demonstrate the artist's mastery of light and color better than his paintings, because they look fresher to us. Some are studies for actual paintings, and others are finished works in their own right. Also described are his many caricatures of the rich and famous of the time, which, to me, were a complete discovery.

A very informative text and high quality reproductions, all contribute to make this book a valuable addition to the literature on the artist.

Pat takes us on a very interesting and exciting journey of the Middle East and allows us to view her experiences from a personal prospective. I enjoyed reading what equates to her wonderful personal journal, her love of adventure and appreciation for cultural diversity.

I now have read Unveilings and discussed it with my colleagues. There are many wonderful anecdotes in here and the writing is warm and natural. David Patterson, Editor, Perseus Books; NY, NY

I've read Unveilings and enjoyed it very much. It is well-written with an easy, natural flow. We know so little about life in Saudi Arabia in the 1970s. Your writings and photographs add greatly to our knowledge of Saudi Arabia and of the Middle East during those years.
Miriam Cook, PH.D; Professor of Asian and African Languages and Literature; Duke University

Unveilings brought back a flood of memories about living and working in the Middle East more than a quarter of a century ago. Preston Angell, Engineer, U.S Army Corps of Engineers (retired)
