Henry Morris does an excellent job pointing to scripture for being the only book that has all the answers. This little book is so excellent for seeing different topics in one place so that u can look them all up.

This book is a classic that a new Christian especially will find worthwhile. It covers just about any topic or question you can think of with solid biblically based answers.

It's also a good source for reference that will be consulted over and over for years.

If you are searching for answers to some of the most common religious questions of today, you won't be disappointed in the answers this book gives. Without a doubt this book should belong in any serious Christian's library!

Do you have questions about such things as the Bible and science, theological issues, practical living, etc., but are afraid of scientific jargon or arcane theology? Then this book is for you. Every question has a self-contained answer.

This is the third edition of this book I have purchased dating back to 1978.We've given copies to our children and a few friends who are "searching". We also use it as a reference in our Bible study. It has proven to be a valuable resource that I would recommend to anybody who wants to know the "truth".

This lady is brilliant. Anyone who thinks that stenciling isn't an "art" has yet to read this book.

I first decided to buy the book because I had not done stenciling before and was considering doing some of it on projects I have under way with a friend. It appeared to have the "basics" I needed and some clever ideas to boot. Was I surprised when I finally sat down, almost a month later, to actually read the book. I literally read it from cover to cover. I couldn't put it down!!

Not only does Sandra Buckingham present the basic techniques of stenciling, she gives the reader a short course in art and design. She does this without bogging the beginner in too-much-information all at once, but with clear concepts and how they are applied throughout the book
(my favorite tip is that things don't cast shadows on the sky behind them!) Along with the notes on materials, equipment, care of tools, and safety tips was information on color, design and perspective.

While the author states up front that this is not a book of "projects" to produce, in fact many of the illustrations of technique would be workable as projects as they are presented. Her primary intention is to provide a compendium of techniques to equip the reader to do their own projects in novel and creative ways, and she succeeds quite amply. I thought of dozens of ways to apply what I read and have definite plans for using them.

Although many of the techniques the author presents are probably more than a little time consuming and some of them fairly complex, that their results are stunning is immediately apparent from the wonderful photos in the book and obviously worth the time spent on them. I have no doubt that the clients for whom she has produced these miracles are more than pleased with the results.

Especially delightful were the picket fence (p. 190) and children's room designs (p. 151-157). Even something as simple as a saying stenciled on the wall over a child's bed made the room more charming and personal (p. 264). My immediate thought on seeing the latter was that "someone loved sleeps there."

Amazing too were the impasto techniques that create an architectural or embossed look where they were used. The description of the method seemed very straight forward, and I will definitely give it a try, on paper projects if not on a larger scale. The foil and metal embossing also caught my attention as easily learned techniques that I might use in the immediate future for one of the projects on which I'm currently at work .

I found the artist's trompe l'oeil effects were tremendous. The fresco painters of ancient Pompeii would have been proud of her work. The rich looking red and gold drape on wrought iron rod (p. 168) and the delightful checkered gingham swag over headboard (p. 169) were impressive enough, but the shear curtain suspended from rings (p. 171) is utterly breathtaking!

If you're interested in new techniques for multiple types of surface, whether paper, wood, plastic, glass, ceramic, plaster walls, whatever, this is the definitely the book for you.

I picked this up through the "buy used" option from Amazon at a very reasonable price, although its worth the retail price and am very happy with it. I do a lot of crafts/stencils and find this book to add much to my knowledge base for stencilling. It's really complete and quite a substantial book. The pictures and text are thorough as well as inspiring. I will definately utilize the techniques shown. If your beginning or already an experienced stenciler this book is a good resource to have in your library. It seems so good to finally buy a book that delivers what it sells. Alehar

Sandra has done it again - written the ultimate bible of stenciling! Many new and wonderful techniques are shown with clear instructions and wonderful step-by-step full color photographs. The chapters on faux marquetry and imitation textiles was fasinating, showing that anyone can stencil beautiful finishes with the best part being, it doesn't look stencilled! The designs are very up to date, touching on all the hot decorating trends. She also includes classical designs that will be here forever. I have been teaching stenciling for 15 years and I'm going to recommend this book for both my beginners and for seasoned experts. Perfect for all you 'Trading Spaces' followers who want to easily and quickly add a new painted accent to your home. I am going to try a velvet scarf with the amazing devore technique, I think they might just be what everyone on my gift list will be getting this year. I can make lots for a fraction of what it would cost to buy them. Sandra finishes the book with lots of sources for materials and a detailed reading list. If I could give more than 5 stars I would! Can you tell I'm trilled with this book? It's the first and only review I have ever written!

You can't go wrong with any book by Sandra Buckingham, and she has really outdone herself this time. This has to be the most comprehensive book on stenciling ever published.

Stencilers who want a complete handbook to the art, from choosing between materials and tools to understanding paint differences, glazes, and equipment, will find The Complete Stenciling Handbook packed with essential details. The chapters on how to create different stencil effects, from producing raised art to using layered patterns, supplement techniques and discussions with plenty of color photos illustrating finished results. An excellent comprehensive guide.

The Crucible of Freya (and it's online introductory module, The Wizard's Amulet) are both excellent products. They are geared toward new DM's and take the time to explain the new 3rd edition rules and proper ways these rules should be used. This is a very refreshing way to read a module for new and old players alike as it reinforces what you know (or just think you know).
Highlights: A simple but well planned adventure centered around the retrieval of a holy relic. The villians are nasty, more than a challenge for the 1st and 2nd level characters the module is designed for, but the website has free advice on how to tailor the adventure for more powerful characters.
Numerous NPC's are introduced with quirky backgrounds and personalities that the players may or may not meet. I have adapted the entire module to my Forgotten Realms campaign and plopped it in the north, a few hundred miles from Waterdeep.
The writers stress that although the module is very difficult for low level characters, they did this on purpose as the best memories often derive from the most demanding challenges. And a resourceful DM can still save the PC's butts from the fire without them knowing.
Definitely worth giving a try, and the best thing is, the more popularity Necromancy Games gets, the more money they acquire, and the better their products will be in the future.

I must say that originally I was skeptical of a non-Wizard's company providing materials for the Dungeons and Dragons game, but when I opened and perused a copy of the Crucible of Freya, that changed. The quality of the cover and the cover illustration grabbed my attention. I purchased it immediately and took it home to digest. The graphics are top notch, the plot and story are excellent and the overall presentation of the module is very good. It centers around the activities of one of "1st Edition" Dungeons and Dragons best known villians: Orcus, Demon Lord of the Undead. It is great to see that first edition feel. This company knows how to write good adventures and knows how to package them to make them a complete product. There are several good maps, several NPC's presented to help adventurers and a complete location that DM's can base further adventures in. The best thing about Necromancer Games is their customer support. If you purchase their products, you can visit their web site and download additional material for each adventure, really giving you your money's worth. I think that the D20 Open License might be the best thing for DnD and that Necromancer Games will be leading the way in providing additional resources for all Dnd players.

This module is intended as an introduction to AD&D for new players and DMs. I have not yet played or DMed it, and there will be spoilers below:

The production quality is uneven. Nice glossy, colorful cover and back which you can see above. The maps are amateurish in look, and the text is easy to read with good use of whitespace.

There's a lot of fleshing out the adventure and the area surrounding the adventure. What I really like is that there are areas that will likely [terminate] a low level party if they go exploring, but most of those offer a way out or a way to solve the problem (even if it's just to run, a healthy thing to learn to do for players). No coddling of the players here.. I like it. Though there is one way for the DM to help out the players, but it's through a natural part of the module, not fudging a die roll because the players are in over their heads. The village and NPCs are well fleshed out, with good characters having some not so good qualities at times, and at times the PCs and the NPCs will conflict even if on the same side. Because the players can give in to the NPC wishes or do what they think is best, it gives the illusion of choice to the players in an otherwise simple adventure. The actual encounters mostly involve one monster (humanoid actually) race, unless the party explores where it shouldn't, and as such it can be fairly repetitive. There's a secret area in the module that they can find, with a surprising twist if a fight doesn't actually occur, which shows that there isn't always a happy ending. There's little in the way of puzzles, and no 'usual' dungeon. The players can greatly affect the difficulty of one of the main battle depending on what they do...

>Overall, this is a good first adventure with plenty of opportunity for roleplay, conflict and battle. Almost every possibility is spelled out for the DM, and there are numerous ways to continue on from the end of the adventure. Recommended.

This module is quite well done. It is somewhat better than the modules that WotC has been putting out. Also, the downloadable mini-adventure is pretty good.

One strength of this module is in its notes to the DM. The hints provided about how to run an encounter are the kind that are normally hard to express, but when expressed properly are valuable pearls of wisdom. There are also good descriptions of where xp are derived, suggestions of a bonus, additional story ideas,... I recommended the module to a friend of mine who wanted to learn to be DM and she was immensely pleased.

The module is a little bit difficult for beginning players, however. Some of the encounters could easily destroy a party if the DM wants them to. Therefore, this module is especially suited to a beginner DM in a group of experienced players. Experienced players often are not happy sitting around while the DM reads a long-winded block of text describing a room. In this module, text that is to be read to players is mercifully short. It is also clearly set out from the other text in "scrolls" so that you can access it quickly. Very nice layout.

There is a problem associated with the module that almost prevents me from giving it a 5 star rating. The authors of the module made mistakes with the 3e rules. For example, a sorcerer wears armor and has the spell mage armor. The authors erroneously believe that mage armor and armor stack. That is not the case, according to the DMG. (I decided it was unfair to dock a star since the character was downloaded rather than printed in the module.)

I bought this adventure while looking for something to add to my new 3rd edition campaing. I found it great reading and better than anything put out by WOTC (with the exception of the new system) to date. Then to find out that there is another 23 page online down load for free, as well as several other DM and player maps, this just blew me away. and all for a smaller price than the new WOTC releases. I have since purchased every d20 product in the sword and sorcery line and have not once been disapointed. A thing I can't say for any other gaming company that I have tried yet.

I thought this book was helpful to me by listing all the stressors that many people wouldn't think of. I hadn't thought of chocolate as a stressor and tylenol. These were to i didn;t think of. But all this info in this book helped tremendously. It helps you loose wieght along with de-stressing yourself. I also learned that drinking tea does not help you but hurt you.

De-stress, weigh less is a well organized compacted book with all the data one needs to know for staying fit and noting which foods cause stress and weight gain.

I liked having the checklists handy, which foods reduce the stress of boredom, weekly goals, the recipes and the tomato sauce for a week and the exercise data showing the symptoms of too much exercise.

For me the best aspect of De-stress, Weigh less is having the exact listing for which foods are vitamin rich along with the deficiency symptoms.

Usually when reading a book that states you need more protein or Vitamin B, for example, you will not get examples of what this is. I liked having this data listed so I could make adjustments in my diet.

The book covers MSG, eggs, sweeteners, binge eating, time management, allergies, food sensitivities and much more in six steps to follow.

I already eliminated Aspartame from my diet and liked seeing the list of what types of items this can be found in. The book also touched on the confusion between assertive and aggressive - an issue I have faced many times in deciphering the two meanings.

There is a food seduction test in step two. The index is extensive and covers every aspect for this no-diet plan to permanent weight loss.

What more could we want?? This superbly written book is well organized, referenced and easy to read and understand. And...the authors are transformed into our personal "coaches" who are cheerleading for our success along the weight continuum. They readily share detailed, thought provoking life-altering information and are with us all the way.

I have managed not to read very many complete books in my lifetime thanks to Cliff's Notes. (Not proud of that fact.) Having said that, any book that captivates me long enough to read it cover to cover has to be good.

I honestly could not put it down. I read it from cover to cover in 10hrs with only a few breaks. I have only done that with one other book, John Grisham's The Pelican Brief.

Jeff Pate has written a sensational thriller in his second book, EYE OF THE BEHOLDER. This book will keep you guessing who the murderer is right until the end. There are enough twists and turns regarding the hunt for the murderer and the investigation involving the techniques of law enforcement and roadblocks thrown in their path to keep any die-hard mystery fan interested from the first page to the last. Not only do we get to see the day-to-day drama involving an interdepartmental investigation, but in this second book we get drawn in even further to the personal life of Clark Hager, his fiance,and his daughter and exactly what this dynamic character is made of. The relationship between Clark Hager and his partner, Lloyd Sheridan is also further explored, to give the reader an in depth feel of how a successful detective partnership really works.

Jeff Pate gives a depth to his characters that is refreshing and gives the reader the sense that they are living this drama right along side of these people. If you are a lover of the mystery genre, and are looking for a new author that gives a fresh perspective to a mystery, then Jeff Pate is your man. I highly recommend both WINNER TAKE ALL and EYE OF THE BEHOLDER!

I found this book to be helpful in getting my daughter to realize that everyone is afraid of something and that fear is a natural emotion. This books helps to show how the characters deal with their fears. If your child is very fearful of the dark, I would recommend you read the book before sharing with your child. I had no problems with an increase in fears after reading this book but neither of my children are very fearful of the dark.

This Franklin book is one of my favorites! All the Franklin books are great! This book teaches kids not to be afraid of the dark! Lots of reading for smaller children, but great pictures!

I GIVE THIS BOOK A FIVE STAR BECAUSE IT TEACHES YOUNGER KIDS BETWEEN THE AGES OF 1-6 ABOUT THE DARK AND HOW IT IS NOT SCARY.

This was our first Franklin book and my son really, really likes Franklin now. I had never heard of him before this book, which was a "gift" from the pediatrician for my son's pre-preschool check-up.

The Franklin books are great.

This one, however, I wish we had skipped.

The thing is, my son was never afraid of the dark. I don't think it ever occurred to him that you *should* be afraid of the dark. But after reading this book, he started to have nightmares. We can't get him to tell us what they are about exactly but they have something to do with Franklin and his small, dark shell.

This might be a good book to help a child who is afraid of the dark get over it. But unless our child is some sort of anomoly, it could also have the potential of giving bad ideas to a child who is not afraid of the dark.

Consider your child when you purchase this book.

This is the best of all of the Franklin stories, and the first one published. It's a wonderful read aloud story, a great story for children to act out, and an easy way to begin a discussion of "things that scare us". Children are amazed to learn that grownups can be frightened of things too. This book should be in every child's home collection and in every elementary teacher's too!

In volume five of Proust's massive and perspicacious `a la recherché,' we find the narrator Marcel, slowly, yet surely, falling out of love with Albertine. Proust is extraordinarily masterful at evoking the painful (and yet very real) feeling of gradual disaffection, which all lovers must inevitably face with each other. Marcel pontificates endlessly and relentlessly on Albertine. He loves, her (or maybe we should say him), he doesn't love her, he loves her, he doesn't love her, etc. etc. Until, finally, the moment of decision, he tells her that he does not love her and wishes her to leave, insisting that she will be happier without him. Of course, the moment Albertine departs, Marcel is in despair, he has lost has love, and Albertine is reduced to the status of the `fugitive.' This volume is one of the most beauteous and thoughtful unfolding of the loss of love, and the painful convalescence that transpires in the subsequent period. Marcel goes to Venice, and explores that wondrous and ancient European city, and he sends help to find Albertine, only to discover that she has died in a horseback accident. In addition to the tragic loss of Albertine, Marcel grows continually disenchanted with the aristocratic world to which he belongs. Proust is brilliant in his ability to sustain this massive web of characters, as he reintroduces figures from the early stages of the search, such as Gilberte (Marcel's first love), and Mme Verdurin. This book evokes the meaning of life as it unfolds temporally, and the meaning of relationships throughout the course of a lifetime, and how they change and drift in and out of focus at different stages. It is one of the great works of Western literature.

The 7th of March I found this book, ISBN:0713996048. Now it's the 12th and I've returned to buy the book,except I can't locate it on the site! What is going on? Where's the first volume in the set? I'm so frustrated by this. I waited for years for the new translation to be completed.Help me!

Modern Library's Volume V deals with the relationship between Marcel and Albertine. It is a complex, psychological relationship to say the least. In the Captive, Albertine lives with Marcel in his apartment in Paris and in The Fugitive one wonders who is, in fact, more captive -- Albertine or Marcel. It would seem to be Albertine for whom Marcel possesses an obsessive love and concurrent fear of her sapphic penchant. But it is also Marcel who will sacrifice experience if he makes a commitment to her. Who is more free, the captive or the fugitive? Proust raises questions about how to serve best the artist's quest for beauty. In fact, how does one really ever "capture" the beauty of life in art or music or literature? Even in a masterpiece, is it not beauty the fugitive that usually dwells just beyond one's capture? Or like Vinteuil's septet or the music of Wagner or the painting of Rembrandt, is the best for which one can hope of fugitive beauty only a brief fleeting experience? Are the vast tracts of time spent to understand the beauty and meaning of life worth it? As a writer does he not habitually surrender life in order to capture it? Or is the pursuit of the capture of the beauty of life in fact where one realizes its most sublime value? One sees in Proust toward the end of The Fugitive a member of society who respects it but chooses by reasons of health not to position himself so visibly within it. Despite his family name and vast but dwindling fortune inherited from his beloved grandmother, he seems to become somewhat ultimately disenchanted with the intricacies of Faubourg-St. Germain society to which he devotes so much of his writing. He recognises society's shallow obsession with materialism and rampant snobbery but his own place in society is captured by its complex history and tacit rules and Marcel is inescapably a captive of his own culture. When Albertine is lost to him toward the end of the volume, as in the prior volumes, the story line's serial intrigue advances most. Characters from prior volumes reappear, reminiscent of Balzac, whom Proust adored, but like him they change,too, and usually for the worse over time. The great tapestry of the characters of Proust -- Albertine, Gilberte, Swann, Brichot, Bloch, Charlus, Morel, Saint-Loup -- ultimately surprise and usually disappoint him. As to nagging questions about Proust's own orientation, "Personally I found it absolutely immaterial from a moral standpoint whether one took one's pleasure with a man or a woman, and only too natural and human that one should take it where one could find it." I found myself wishing that Proust had written more about Bloch and Saint-Loup and Gilberte, and less about Albertine. But she was, like his work, the one obsession, the endeavor of which understanding he could never escape and never quite marry -- she was his beauty and his art. She was the breath of life itself from his pen and from his experience of life as seen through the eyes of a true genius.

This is volume five of the superlative new translation of "In Search of Lost Time," containing the two books of the Albertine cycle, which are now titled "The Prisoner" (translated by Carol Clark) and "The Fugitive" (tr. Peter Collier). Though I haven't yet read their translations, I have found the new editions to be a wonderful improvement over those done in the 1920s by Charles Scott Moncrieff. So I have no hesitation in giving them five stars.

Unhappily for American readers, current U.S. copyright law prevents Viking/Penguin from publishing the last two volumes of "Lost Time" in this country until 95 years after Proust's death, or 2018. The first four volumes have been published here in handsome hardcovers (more handsome than the British edition), but the only way to obtain this and the final volume ("Finding Time Again") is to find an imported British hardcover or paperback. -- Dan Ford

The Albertine episodes make more sense if we assume this is a homosexual ralationship. Albertine's independence, and her being allowed to live in a young man's apartment, and other aspects of her social life do not seem likely for a young woman in the nineteen hundreds. Marcel's (and incidentally this is the only volume where he refers to himself as Marcel) suspicions then become the gay lover's fears that his lover prefers heterosexuality. Albertine is the only female in the Recherche who never gets married.
Apart from these external clues there is quality about the the affection Marcel feels that suggests a gay rather than a straight relationship.
This volume marks a turning point in the narrator's fascination with the aristocracy. From here on disenchantment sets in, and the references to homosexuality become almost homophobic.

Robert M. Clark's "Intelligence Analysis: A Target-Centric Approach" is an up-to-date, practical manual on the conduct of analysis in the context of the current global war on terrorism. This manual is well suited for classroom use for intelligence professionals, whether in the military, in civilian government agencies, or private industry.

Clark divides his topic into three principal sections. In the first, he provides a detailed break-down of the target-centric approach as the collaborative, interactive, information network-enabled analysis that has replaced the hierarchial stovepipe architecture of the Cold War.

In the second section, on modeling, Clark explains in clear and understandable language the process by which analysts synthesize available information into a conceptualization of the intelligence problem. This key step produces the basis to which analysts will apply predictive analysis.

The heart of the book is Clark's exploration of the techniques and potential pitfalls of predictive analysis. Clark discusses a variety of methods to approach analysis, along with their practical limits and familar challenges such as bias and customer interaction. His liberal use of examples from recent intelligence failures help make clear just what a challenging combination of art, science, and team effort good intelligence analysis should be.

This book is not without some faults. His definitions of Strategic, Operational, and Tactical intelligence are imprecise and not those commonly in use in, for example, the Department of Defense. Strategic intelligence is better defined by the level of the customer served and not by whether it is long range or short range. Similarly, his breakdown of the standard intelligence disciplines achieves simplicity at the expense of considerable accuracy. As an example, his explanation of TECHINT confuses the acquisition of foreign materials with their actual exploitation for intelligence value. It should be noted in Clark's defense that the U.S. Intelligence Community lacks standardization, which fault contributes to the challenges of collaboration.

This book is very highly recommended to intelligence professionals interested in a systematic and unclassified exploration of the techniques of good analysis.

This is a great book and necessary for anyone who wishes to really focus and direct thier thinking on a tactical and operational level. Although more of a government/ military oriented book, I can see some real world applications as well dealing with planning and organizing a plan of attack for any problem an organization is dealing with.

This is the best work for an account of the role of analysis and its relationship within the intelligence industry. I recommend this book as required reading prior, or in accordance with the first semester of the research methods series of courses at the graduate level.

The material is applicable across various disciplines including law enforcement and military operations, diplomacy, and business. Besides a consistent introduction to tools, arrangements, and concepts, Dr. Clark introduces novel methods such as Delphi; "A major advantage of the target-centric approach is that it formalizes the process of obtaining expert opinions. It also lends itself readily to techniques, such as Delphi... One objective of the Delphi method is the encouragement, rather than the suppression, of conflicting or divergent opinions." Pg. 116.

Much of what can be said about the need for new mechanisms to plan and coordinate U.S. national defense missions also applies to homeland security operations. Every significant policy, plan, and operation against terrorists, drug traffickers, and other criminals demands a coordinated response. Therefore, a full understanding and appreciation of intelligence analysis and the analyst's role is rudimentary for consumers of intelligence products.

Most books about intelligence end up being boring discussions about the intelligence cycle or intelligence sources and never get to the heart of the process. Clark begins with a brief discussion about the intelligence process, but quickly focuses on why it is important to accurately define the problem that you are trying to assess. This step is often missed, even by seasoned intelligence analysts, who frequently leave many of their assumptions unclarified. Clark uses many references to actual historical case studies to make valid points about common failure tendencies. The real value of this book is in the area of predictions. Clark states rather emphatically that "(D)escribing a past event is not intelligence analysis; it is history. The highest form of intelligence analysis requires structured thinking that results in a prediction of what is likely to happen. True intelligence analysis is always predictive". He goes on to dedicate a sizeable share of remainder of the book to predictive techniques. Many who claim to be intelligence officers do not employ the predictive techniques describes in this book. Intelligence folks have a propensity to gravitate to current intelligence and retell what has already been told, while neglecting to take on the challenging task of predicting what is next. This is one of the best overview books on intelligence analysis. Highly recommended reading.

The book was very revealing into the structure and tactics the intelligence community has to go through in the new age of terrorism. Intelligence gathering methods of the past and of our fathers and grandfathers is no longer effective in this age of technology and political ideology.

This book was very good at pointing out the problems now facing the intelligence community and revealed some really good stratagies and techniques now being explored in the world of intelligence gathering.

I would recommend this book as a good read for any educational institution looking for a suppliment to their academic requirements.

The book has many fun and interesting facts about Lewis and Clark. If you're using it for the classroom...the activities are creative and easy to do.

This is a perfect book for kids to learn about Lewis and Clark. Not only is it informative but also holds their attention by giving them useful and entertaining activites. A must for those not in the standard school system in the states.

I would have given this book five stars if there had been just a few more activities in it.

The book reads as non-fiction literature and is interspersed with good photos and interesting sidebars. There are also some useful activities for the child to do within the text to reinforce what is learned.

This book would be useful for all grades but can be read independently in the middle school grades. The book contains a glossary, index, web site suggestions, bibliography, listings of museums and parks and other handy references.

The Lewis and Clark Bicentennial is here, finally! If you are still on your own undaunted journey of discovery or plan to teach children about these two courageous men and their corps, then you NEED this book. It will be invaluable to any teacher of intermediate students.

I found "Lewis and Clark for Kids" to be an excellent source of information and activities for both children, parents and teachers. There is an abundance of information about the actual journey plus there are great activities for children to engage in to learn more about the various indian cultures that Lewis and Clark interacted with on their journey of discovery.
