Now in an updated and expanded fourth edition, Group Leadership Skills by therapist and group work consultant Carolyn Chambers Clark is a solid and comprehensive guide to group work and organization, which was originally intended to be used as a text for nurses, then became expanded so as to be applicable to all business and social circles. Individual chapters address group problem solving, qualities needed from an effective group leader, the importance of recording and analyzing group processes, working with focal groups, and much more. Group Leadership Skills is very strongly recommended reading for anyone whose personal or professional activities involve them in group work situations or scenarios.

While this book focuses on nurses who lead group sessions, it can be used by anyone who is leading or a member of a group. What I liked best was the practical advise and the great exercises at the end of each chapter. If you're a new group leader, the simulations will build confidence and ensure your group is a success!

Carolyn Chambers Clark's book, Group Leadership Skills 4th Edition, is unique because it teaches the basics of group process through clear description and well-thought out exercises to help the reader practice and analyze each concept. It is intended for a wide variety of helping professions including nurses, mental health professionals and educators.

Award winning author, Dr. Clark, speaks about how to work with the anxiety and conflict found in normal group process, as well as problems such as scapegoating and silence. She includes check lists and forms that can be used for supervision and analysis. Sections on older adults, focus groups, organizations and communities make this book a good reference for special populations as well. I have led groups in community and mental health settings for many years and would highly recommend Group Leadership Skills as one of the most complete and readable books I've seen on the subject. I give it 5 stars.

"Hogwarts Through the Years" is a nice keepsake for any die-hard fan of the Harry Potter films. It features photos from all five movies to date. There are pictures of the Hogwarts staff and students of the various Houses, not just Gryffindor.

The book has a glossy hardcover, which gives it a nice appearance. But I can only give this book four stars because some of the photos included are just horrible. Instead of high-quality images, some of the photos of students are nothing but cropped, low-res screen caps from the movies. They're blurry and look bad juxtaposed with the higher-quality images.

It looks like Scholastic threw this book together in a hurry to coincide with the box-office release of "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix". But since the price is low, and it's a hardcover book, it's not that bad of a deal. Especially if you love the films.

Im a pretty experienced network admin, but I needed to come up to speed a bit on security basics as part of a new project I've been assigned.

This book proved very helpful. Its clearly written and has good illustrations and does a nice job of walking one through security. Too basic for an expert of course--but if you are like me and have bits and pieces of knowledge about security it does a good job of helping you connect the dots.

Good Background for Your New Assignment

When I first picked up this book I noticed that the title started with 'Introduction.' And the back cover of the book says that it is 'Beginning to Intermediate' level. I wanted something a bit more than the basic simple 'run anti-virus software' level books. And on the other hand I didn't want something that merely told you how to configure your super dooper Cisco invasion protection hardware or the various Microsoft .

This book was exactly at my level. That is, one with reasonable experience in computing, but little depth in the security area. It talks about security at virtually all levels from surveys of what end users are thinking to the various OSI levels. It provides the background, the basic understanding that a systems administrator or anyone else responsible for protecting your network from the bad guys that are out there.

The CD included with the book contains almost as much material (maybe even more) than the book including standards, white papers, programs and more.

A MUST READ

Review Date: 2008-04-15
Madison Avenue and the Color Line is a difficult book to put down. Professor Chambers is lucid in his chronicle of the history of African-Americans in print, radio, television, and advertising. This book describes the emergence of the black consumer market and accounts for the many, unknown champions who fought for "positive" and "real" portrayals of African Americans in communication mediums. As America continues to morph from a bowl of milk, with a few fruity pebbles, into a tossed salad, where unique taste and cultures are celebrated, Chambers book is "a must read" for anyone working in advertising, aspiring to reach segmented consumer markets, or making marketing decisions.

The lack of diversity in the advertising industry has received considerable press coverage recently with many thoughts and opinions about the reasons for the lack of diversity and the perspective of the agencies in New York and nationally. The book provides an incredibly well researched account of the history of blacks in the advertising industry far beyond anything ever published. The names, companies, trade organizations and the challenges that have come before us provide factual perspective on the efforts, success and challenges that have come along the way.

If you are in the industry or interested in entering the industry Madison Avenue no matter what color, culture or background the book is a great baseline to examine the history of people of color without the emotional accusations.

Craig Parshall weaves an excellent tale blending history, fiction and Biblical truth. In recent years Christian Fiction has become a boone to the literary industry. Books and stories published by many are thin and underdeveloped reading more like witnessing tracts than novels. I urge anyone with a liking for Grisham to pick up Parshall.

Once more, Will Chambers is faced with a mystery set in the past, three hundred years to be exactly. To clear up a disputed legacy, he has to prove the innocence of a man accused of being one of Blackbeard's pirates. If he fails, a local good ol' boy/ godfather will take control of an island meant to go to a country pastor. The case is difficult, relying on ancient court records and interpretation. Complicating Will's life further, his beloved Fiona is pregnant, and wants to help him.

*** The latest entry in a Christian's Perry Mason series is a bit slower than the first three. Fans of history will admire the research and detail that go into bringing past and present to equal life. ***

MISSING WITNESS, book number four in the Chambers of Justice series, presents Will Chambers with the most difficult challenge of his career. Talk about cold cases! He has to prove that Isaac Joppa, who lived more than 300 years ago, was innocent of piracy. Despite the lack of historical documentation, Will begins this seemingly impossible investigation. He skillfully follows what few threads he has and starts to unravel the mystery that surrounds the most infamous dweller on the Reverend Jonathan Joppa's family tree.
If Isaac Joppa's innocence can be proved, Reverend Joppa will inherit Stony Island off the coast of North Carolina, left to him by Randolph Willowby, a distant cousin who was also related to the alleged pirate. Of course there are those who benefit if Will loses the case. Enter the dastardly Blackjack Morgan, who is certain that the secret to Blackbeard's buried booty is hidden on the island. Morgan is a good ol' boy godfather type who seems to have everyone in his debt, including Judge Hawsley Gadwell who is trying this unusual case. But loyalty through intimidation seldom lasts and one wonders which of Morgan's lackeys will be plotting to betray him first.
Once again Parshall comes through with a cast of fascinating characters played against a backdrop jam-packed with history, suspense and legal maneuverings. Will's beautiful wife, Fiona is having serious difficulty carrying their first child, there are intermittent chapters that detail Isaac Joppa's adventures, and there is the drama surrounding Reverend Joppa's struggle with his faith. These are back-stories that intrigue but never distract. Another winner for Craig Parshall.

This piece of music is absolutely amazing! I spent 2 years trying to figure out what the song was called (I had it as a demo on an old Yamaha keyboard), and finally I found it, and couldn't find sheet music for it! I found it on here, and my ONLY complaint is that the book covers ALL 12 sections of instruments, so if you're playing just the one part, you have to constantly flip the page every 8 beats or so. Overall, this is an amazing window at Edvard Grieg's most recognized piece of music!

A well presented , easy to follow score. This is a must for any lover of this concerto. It is worth buying to appreciate both the simplicity and complexity of the piano part. Franz Liszt apparently played it at sight - how good was he! Great product - highly recommended.

The score itself is very good, with the whole page taken up by the different instruments. The 9 1/2" by 12" size is generous and makes the score much easier to read than the "minature series". But other than a TOC and a description of the instrumentation that is mostly a translation of the Italian, there is nothing else to the book. That is except for a four page list of other scores from the publisher. Overall it is just what it says it is, sheet music.

Some of the material sounds too much like just the authors personal preference and not was is generally excepted Wiccan practice. While there is certainly nothing wrong with this, I don't think it's a good starting off point for someone new to the Path who may not realize that what is in this book is not the "way" it is for everyone.

However I did like the last section on setting up your house although I don't see how it relates to Wicca. Sounded more like Feng Shui.

Love this book! :)

My first Wicca book and definitely one I'm sticking with. It has explainations of Wiccan history, casting the circle, symbolism, casting spells, explains elements, tools, numbers, colors, seasons, a little something for everyone.

A great book for beginners and the regulars who want a handy reference for all the little spiritual meanings of numbers, colors and dates etc. :) Highly recommended!
