I picked up this book at a friends house and started skiming threw it. It was a day to day guide on how to be more godly and how to live a life with God in it. It has a bible verse for each day and then a page on how to follow it. It is a 50 day guide, and a good one!

From the moment I picked up the book lying on the table at camp, I was taken by it. The 50 day devotional is a must for anyone searching for identity in themselves and who God is and can be in their life. A book geared toward youth, this is one that should be in the family library! Don't take my word for it, check it out yourself!

I LOVED this book. It's the true story of two young men, terribly burned in a dormitory fire at Seton Hall University a few years back. Living overseas at the time of the fire, I had no knowledge this tragedy ever occurred; but I bought the book on the recommendation of a friend and immediately found that I couldn't put it down.
It's an incredibly well-written story that will draw you into the lives of these two courageous young men and the medical staff who helped bring them back from the brink of death.
I was completely moved by this story and it touched my heart in a way that no book ever has. This is easily one of my favorite books of all time.

Buy this book. Robin Gaby Fisher takes you on the heart-wrenching and heart-warming journey of two young men, who nearly died in a fire at their dorm. People magazine got it right in its four-star review of the book, saying in part: " While the descriptions of the burn treatment are horrific, the revelation that the fire was ignited by two pranksters who nonchalantly partied afterward is heartbreaking. Unimaginably moving - readers will want to keep a box of tissues at handy - and deeply compassionate." I agree, I know I used up my fair share of tissues, too, and I couldn't put it down until I'd read the last page. - marilyn and brian

ALL FOR JESUS-The Easy Ways of Divine Love. Fr. Frederick William Faber. Every catechism student should remember learning that God made us to know, to love and to serve Him. Because we cannot serve Him without first loving Him, and we cannot love Him without first knowing Him, Fr. Faber develops several extremely powerful motives for our loving God, and then offers a number of very creative ways in which we can best serve God out of love, rather than just out of duty. Fr. Faber says "Nothing is easy, which we are not happy about while we are doing." He then shows how to make the service of God easy by doing all for love of God. "I want to beguile you into serving Jesus out of love," says Fr. Faber, "for everything comes easy to love." One of this famous convert/priest's greatest books written precisely to help us save our souls by doing ALL for God out of love for God - which is by far the easiest way of salvation! Comprehensive inspirational insights! 308pp. PB. Imprimatur.

A Definitive and Long Overdue Book on American Women Artists

It is very much to the credit of the young art museum at Brigham Young University that they are publishing such fine catalogues that not only enhance the Museum's large collection, but serve to fill voids in the compendium of art literature. This superb catalogue, edited by Marian Wardle, gives evidence of the vision of Campbell B. Gray, the Director of the Museum: his presence is palpable and promises a strong commitment to the art world.
Aptly subtitled 'The Legacy of Robert Henri, 1910 - 1945' this collection of works by women artists reflects the emphasis of the great teacher on the modernist perceptions of his pupils. The names of the artists sadly are not household names, but after reading and viewing this fine book it is embarassing to admit that fact. This is not an overview of 'lesser art' championing a feminist movement: this is an investigation into the art of women artists whose work is informed by their state of being women with all the powerful inferences that suggests.
Wisely, this catalogue is lead by essays written by contemporary women in the arts. Editor Wardle introduces the précis in 'Thoroughly Modern: The "New Women" Art Students of Robert Henri'; Sarah Burns offers 'fabricating the Modern: Women in Design'; Helen Langa writes 'American Women Printmakers: Adventurous Choices, Modernist Innovations'; Betsy Fahlman essays 'The Art Spirit in the Classroom: Educating the Modern Woman Artist'; Erika Doss offers 'Complicating Modernism: Issues of Liberation and Constraint among the Women Art Students of Robert Henri'; Gwendolyn Owens contributes 'Hidden Histories: Robert Henri's Female Students and the Market for American Art'; and finally Lois Palken Rudnick concludes the book with 'Modernizing Women: The New Woman and American Modernism'.
A broad spectrum of information, this: an even broader exposure to the visuals about which they write!
The photographs, which accompany the texts in appropriate places, create a sense of history that will be difficult to match in other books about this interesting subject. But the overwhelming part of the book is the art itself. These are paintings and prints of astonishingly fine quality, works that vie equally with those of men artists from this period. The reader makes refreshing discoveries on almost every page to the point of putting the Brigham Young University Art Museum on the travel itinerary for art lovers. And as with any exceptional, scholarly book there is a complete 'Artists' Biographies' section at the back of the book, a very fine compilation by Stephanie Andrews McNairy. This is an historically important, aesthetically rewarding book that deserves a large audience. Highly recommended. Grady Harp, January 06

American Women Modernists...was stunningly beautiful, and contains fresh information, including many illustrations, about a long over-looked topic.
I particularly liked the extensive listing of "Artists' Biographies", and the very helpful "Notes sections. The nine-page Bibliography is an excellent resource for those of us interested in learning about so many talented contributors to American art.
A "must-read" for all art collectors!

At Home With Gladys Knight is a wonderful, inspiring book. I bought this book for my parents who both have diabetes. After years of trying to get them to follow doctor recommended diets it is a relief to have a book that inspires my parents to not only care about their diet, but their physical fitness as well.
Mrs. Knight has created a quick and easy read that is full of motivation. This book gets 5 stars in the Murphy household.

I am an author and a poet and during a leisure trip to Las Vegas, Nevada with my family, we were able to obtain a front row seat at the Gladys Knight Show. It was awesome. What a display of great talent! Reading her book is fascinating. The historical perspective of her story is amazing. She states how she believes diabetes eventually crept upon her, and why. However, she has it under control. The ways in which she blends her songs into her treatment plan is humbling. For example, she uses the heading in one section of the book, "Neither One Of Us Wants to Say Goodbye to the Cheeseburger," where she discusses fatty foods and how to avoid fast foods. The pictures of her family are wonderful. Her philosophy of dealing with positive people, exercising daily, and burning calories is a formula for success. The final section of the book deals with a variety of mouth-watering dishes and recipes. They are all healthy with her special blend of spices, herbs, and juices, with a low fat touch. This is an easy and relaxing book to read. It's a great treat to and for lowering one's blood sugar and staying healthy. I highly recommend it!!!

Too bad this is out of print! It was one of my favorites when I was a baby. Our family's copy is so old and beat up from being read thousands of times, I can't give it to my daughter. I wish it were in print! My dad actually photocopied the pages and had it bound at Kinko's so my daughter could have a copy of this book. It's bulky and awkward, but she loves it as much as my brother and I did.

This is such a wonderful book, and I'm only hoping I can find it for my daughter, as it's out of print. This was my favorite book when I was little, and the melodic prose is as as memorable as the beautiful illustrations by Eloise Wilkin. Here it is thirty years later and I can still quote the beginning: "These are the things that baby hears when he listens hard with his little ears." A wonderful book for bedtime.

Thomas Burns' BARBARIANS WITHIN THE GATES OF ROME manages something quite difficult. It is a very readable book that manages to be scholarly but still quite enjoyable. Anybody who is interested in this era in western civilization would enjoy this book. The usual view of the decline of Rome-- that it fell for some sort of "moral" reason --is very inacurate and this book presents the real truth of this pivotal era in a very entertaining manner. Burns is the rare academic whose writing is as lucid as it is learned, and this book admirably displays that. If you've never given this era a serious look, this book is a great introduction. I've been interested in the early years of Christianity for many years, and I loved this book.

In the 25 years since I graduated I never learned as much about the university as I did in reading this book. Burns tells the story of the university in the way of a grandfather. I was enthralled through the entire story. That is unusual for me but I found his story compelling and the scolarship was outstanding. There were sources that were special. His handling of the Erskine affair was delicate at best. I recommend this book to anyone that is interested in the Notre Dame that extends past the football field.
