Hello. I am an 11th grader in high school and for my algebra II class we are using this book. It's too bad it's not available (I could not buy it) but the book is great. I have understood all the terms used in algebra and I can solve any problem on the book. It has great examples and good definitions. If you are a teacher in look for the book to give a class, buy it... it is great! If you are a student, just like me, and you want to buy it, you won't regret paying what is costs. Happy studing fellow students! Temple of Souls.

Interviewing in Action in a Multicultural World (with DVD)

I can honestly say I never thought I would be excited to read a textbook, but Interviewing in Action is an amazing text. Although I have had over ten years of experience in the human services field, I had gaps in my skill set that I wasn't aware of. Murphy and Dillon's book present's all aspects of interviewing in an accessible and easy to follow manner.

Moreover, Interviewing in Action includes and amazing supplemental video (improved from the previous VHS version, it includes a DVD with updated content so it's easier for students to watch it directly on their computer. Interviewing in action provides individuals with the opportunity to observe seasoned interviewers at work. You learn not only from their success, but from their mistakes as well. The video presents and open and realistic view of client/clinician experience.

I also like how the book talks about self-care, ethical issues, and provides a small resource guide to help you start relevant discussions that build off the class exercises included in the book.

In my current work as a mediator for a county facility, my coworkers and co-mediators frequently comment on the skill with which I interview my clients. Naturally, I owe partial credit to my instructor; however, Interviewing in Action provided me with the client focused perspective needed to be successful.

This book will benefit anyone in the Human Service disciplines, including Human Resources, Psychology, Social Work, and, naturally, Human Services. I highly recommend this book and commend Bianca Cody Murphy and Carolyn Dillon for taking care to revise it only when there is something important to add, instead of revising it simply for additional profit.

I highly recommend this book.

A passionate and lucid introduction to a contemporary model of treatment. The authors' commitment to and advocacy of their point of view provide for an illuminating discussion, whether or not one agrees with their conclusions, and the book should be especially useful to beginning therapists interested in exploring the psychodynamic perspectives.

It was an excellent resource when I needed it

I was teaching mathematics and computer science in the middle 1980's when the Ada wave began to hit the Department of Defense (DoD) contractors hard. The mandates to use Ada in all DoD contracts forced a local avionics company to immediately begin the shift over to programming in Ada. Since many of our students were employees there, we were also forced to change our course offerings. I immediately had to learn Ada and this book was one of the resources I turned to. At the time, I was fluent in Pascal and had some rudimentary knowledge of C.
I found the descriptions and examples in this book very easy to understand and work through. There were some errors, but nothing that I considered serious. After going through the book, I was able to answer student questions in the computer center when they were stumped over their programs. I was also able to write the programs in Ada that were used in a research project that was funded through a grant. The stipulations of the grant were that I must use Ada in all my investigations.

I am very pleased with text; it is a excellent introduction to working with families for the new social worker or social work student. I especially enjoyed how it differentiated between social work and therapy since those two terms often get used interchangeably.

I am a psychology student, and I was under the instruction of Professor Lippa, and we used this book for his class. I enjoyed his class, and this book. It supplied real-life scenarios to drive his points home. I feel that every student of psychology should read this book.

The Most Interesting and Easy to Understand Math Book Ever!!
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2002-02-22
This book is awesome. I always hated math in high school, and never did well. In college I left it right to the end of my program because I dreaded it. This book saved my ... and got me interested in learning. This is the first math class that I've done well in and it's all thanks to this book.

The Discussion sections have tons of examples that are meticulously explained. The Investigations offer a hands on approach to learning through a sort of discovery approach. Plus it's a workbook so you can write in it and not have to waste money on paper.

I always hated doing homework, especially story problems--because I didn't know where to start. This book has story problems I could relate to--and some of them even made me laugh. Imagaine actually enjoying a math book!!!!

I even called the publisher to see if they had a book for the next class--I liked it that much! I guess there will be one next year--too late for me but I think I have a solid base to get going with now.

I highly recommend this book. Every college prealgebra class should use this book and help take the fear out of math.

Thought provoking discussion of the spiritual journey to God
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 1999-12-14
This book began as a year long series of articles in Liguorian magazine. I remember eagerly awaiting each issue just to read these articles. I bought the book when it was first published. Why? Because each article/chapter is wise advise from a friend who has been down the spiritual road before me. A good friend who knows my weaknesses, prods me when I'm complacent or soothes me when I'm sorrowful and always helps me down the road to God. I started with this book at the beginning of my spiritual journey and come back to it time and again for a refresher course.
