Young readers ages 3 to 7 will thoroughly enjoy Ross MacDonald's simple and engaging story

Even though young Jack's life is just about perfect, he still feels that somehow something is missing -- maybe someone to play with? Then his new baby sister arrives much to his delight. But then his baby sister starts turning Jack's world upside down with a mischievousness that his parents appear to be totally oblivious too! It seems that having a baby sister is a lot more work than Jack had ever expected. Young readers ages 3 to 7 will thoroughly enjoy Ross MacDonald's simple and engaging story so wonderfully enhanced by his colorful artwork. Bad Baby would make a very welcome and popular addition to family, school, and community library picturebook collections for young readers.

What do they mean 'for ages 4 to 8'? Keep the kiddies' hands off this one! This book is a golden dreamscape gone crazy that adults will love as much as children. Ross MacDonald is simply the best illustrator around--I've been known to tear his illustrations out of magazines to save the always hilarious yet somehow also poignant, vintage-looking pictures. There's something about the warm glow in his illustrations that recalls a 1930s illustrated magazine, but you look a little closer and realize there's a very hip and very funny mind at work behind the drawings. Who else would call a kids' book BAD BABY (besides every kid)? This is his best book yet.

I had to have this book for a college "Intro to Biology" and it was great. The book has a lot of information that I needed for class. It was easy to read, which was really great since I had a full class load. There are also really good diagrams and pictures to illustrate the examples and concepts from the book.

EXCELLENT BOOK!

"Basic Concepts in Biology" touches the basic definitions of the scientific study of life; from the origin and evolution of life, to the biosphere, ecosystems, life energy and life organization, cells-prokaryotics/eukaryotics, DNA, proteins, photosynthesis, human genetics, bacterias, viruses, protistans, fungi, plants, animals, the so controversial issue of global warming, and many other very interesting topics. The topics are illustrated with beautiful and colorful pictures. In the back of the book there is a CD. If you are a student, please don't ignore it. The CD will help you to study in an easy and simple way. It is excellent...

This book proved a major turning point for me as an undergrad who didn't know what she wanted to be when she grew up! This book was inspiring and informative... even funny... statistics became tangible, interesting and fun. The author does an amazing job. I still use this book professionally when I need to brush up on stats analysis.

A student-friendly book to help you succeed in statistics!

Tales of Distribution is fun, well written and easy to read. Tales of Distribution is a college textbook worth reading if you need to put statistics at your command! Spats'z style is helpful to the reader and down to earth. This is a heavy-duty treatment of the topic; however, interesting examples of how to use statistics in day-to-day life makes this topic come alive. If you read this book, you will never be intimidated by statistics in your lifetime.

The author's discussion of "Rationale of ANOVA" and "Hypothesis Testing" is excellent. Frequent use of algebraic explanation is joined with graphic explanations to help the reader visualize the author's points. "Work Problems" at the end of each chapter show imagination and creativity. The author seems to have a sincere desire to help the reader at every turn along their journey of statistical discovery. The author also seems to have privilege insight into the reader's mind. He anticipates what the reader is thinking, and serves up a helping of practical advice at the exact perfect moment.

As a market-research practitioner, I found the book to be very refreshing and enjoyable to read. I read it on my summer vacation! My daughter purchased the book as the required text for her statistics class at UCLA. At the end of her class she had planned to sell the book back to the UCLA bookstore. After looking at the book for 60 seconds, I said to her "No, don't sell this book. This is great book. Keep it." To which she replied; "But Dad, I need the money. You can keep it if you pay me for it." To which I replied; "Haven't I paid for this book once already? If I pay you for it now, that would be the second time I bought the same book."

My little girl (2 1/2) picked the book from the library and ever since we HAVE had to read it every night before bed, she also wants to sleep with the page open where all the animals say good night. She recites most of the lines and we really enjoy reading it to her. I am ordering a new one today!

Beautiful Girl! Beautiful book!

We love this book! In it a little girl named Jenna is on her way to market when she meets some animals (they're so cute!) who think she's silly because she isn't just like them. Jenna, in her perfectly matter-of-fact manner sets them straight, telling them who she is and what she can do. Way to go, Jenna! The animals are duly impressed and ask to join Jenna on her walk. Who wouldn't want to join Jenna? She's straight-forward and thoughtful too: When they reach the market, she buys each animal a well-chosen treat. The book closes with a cozy bedtime scene. I think you and your child will enjoy reading A Beautiful Girl over and over at bedtime, laptime, any time. It's a keeper!

Full disclosure: I know (and admire) Elliott Ingersoll, so I'm biased.

Having said that, speaking as someone who survived working 10 years in the community mental health system, I think this is a wonderful book. I wish I would have had this book when I began working in the field ... it would have saved me a lot of mistakes. Highly recommended.

Outstanding resource for beginning practioners.

Because I know both Dr. Ingersoll, and Dr. MacCluskie personally will readily admit that I am just a tad biased when it comes to their work. However these two professors are first-rate intellectuals who know how to guide the would-be practioner deeper.

This book gives the counselor-to-be a window into the world of agency counseling. To their credit, the authors also stress the need, or dare I say, necessity, of "looking inward" as well.

This practical book offers valuable information, suggestions, and guidelines designed to help readers learn how to work effectively in an agency setting. The unifying theme and framework is the value and importance of looking at personal and professional aspects of agency counseling. This text helps the reader look inside themselves as well as outside of themselves at their agency.

The main theme of this book is the importance of looking at personal and professional aspects of agency counseling. Although a little on the expensive side, this book is a necessary read for those who are entering the field, who want to rise above mediocrity.

In my field I must read many research studies dealing with various topics. I've taken research classes and have learned to recognize key statistical concepts but I must admit that I've never fully understood how they work, what they really mean (no pun intended) or how they were derived. Don't get me wrong. I've studied, but most texts were just too advanced right from the start. Now that I've read and worked through the sample questions in this text I finally feel ready to tackle more advanced texts. The language used is clear and concise with clearly presented examples and applications of concepts. The sequencing is well thought out and quite seamless. I highly recommend it for anyone just starting research classes who has had little or no preparation in statistics. However, knowledge of basic algebra is a must. If you haven't had algebra for some time, you may want to brush up a bit.

I sure as heck never had before. I am dyslexic, math phobic, and a graduate student in Psych who must take 1 full year of advanced stat. Terrifed of this prospect, I bought this book. It is, without doubt, the best text book, ever. It is funny (to the point of being downright cheeky), laid out exceedingly well, progresses from one idea to another naturally, and explains all these confusing concepts easily. I actually looked forward to reading it in my spare time, and I promise you, I am not a math geek! There simply is not a better Intro to Statistics book out there. Better than cartoon guide, stats for dummies, etc. Save your money and time and go right to the source.

The only way to safely express the feelings Bill Clinton's conduct produces is the editorial cartoon. The man just defies words. So this was a vintage year for cartoonists - and it shows. The cartoons in this book are just great. They canalise wrath into laughter, but also - on social issues - create the awareness that some matters are too serious to be laughed at.

Best Editorial Cartoons Of The Year 2003 Edition is a superb collection of black-and-white political and social cartoons that aptly summarize the turning points of the year. Including numerous award-winning cartoons among its 420 selections, Best Editorial Cartoons Of The Year 2003 aptly captures the range of political turmoil, governmental indecisions, social ills, and sardonic looks at the near and far future. Highly recommended, especially for political science students in need of a little levity showcasing what are often keen political insights.

BRILLIANT AND ON TARGET!
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2006-09-10
The cover of the Best Editorial Cartoons of the Year, 2006 edition just about says it all as a blimp is pictured with the words "Bad Year" as its message. No one can disagree there as 2005 began with the aftermath of the Tsunami on the other side of the world, and continued the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the disaster of Hurricane Katrina, the failing economy, and various political scandals. Not a year to be remembered. These truly are the best political cartoons leading off with Pulitzer and other prize winners and covering a variety of subjects such as those various natural disasters, terrorism, congress, the economy, sports, foreign affairs, and more, from some of the leading newspapers in the nation.

As one would expect, President Bush is the target for many of the cartoons, lampooning his handling of Iraq, Katrina, the nomination to the Supreme Court, the economy, and, well...just about everything else. Several cartoons take Bush to task for his seemingly uncanny ability to be on vacation whenever a disaster strikes.

Two great cartoons take opposite sides and use the name of the fallen soldiers in Iraq as their ammunition. One, from Mike Luckovich of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, uses the names to spell out in big letters, "WHY?" On the other end of the spectrum is Bob Englehart of the Hartford Courant whose cartoons show a version of the Constitution which reads, "We the people of Iraq should get down on our knees and thank..." with the list of names following. Both are well done.

The topic of racism is dealt with frequently, particularly in regards to Katrina and there are several humorous, yet sadly tragic cartoons that deal with last August's hurricane. Other subjects that get deservedly skewered are Michael Jackson, oil companies and their gross (as in disgusting) profits, and the Bird Flu. The bulk of the sports cartoons cover the ongoing steroid scandal in baseball.

It's a brilliant collection from beginning to end with cutting edge cartooning and biting political statements. A real gem!

As a Cartoonist for a Small Town Newspaper, somewhere in the Mountians of California, every year I purchase: "Best Editorial Cartoons of the Year".

The 2008 Edition is outstanding and full of Wonderful Political Insight from the year 2007. This Series spotlights The Best of the Best, and they are here: Walt Handelsman, Jimmy Margulies, Mike Peters and Dick Locher. Over 100 other Great Cartoonists are included in the pages of this Book, and I cannot recommend this Series highly enough. This is The Bible of the Best Political Cartoons of the Year, and it is as Entertaining as it is Educational.

Subjects included in the 2008 Edition include: The Presidential Campaign, The Bush Administration, The Economy, Crime and Entertainment. From Dick Cheeney to Britney Spears, nobody is safe from the Wrath of these Cartoonists. The Iraq War, Gas Prices and Immigration are all under attack here.

From 1972 to 2008; "The Best Editorial Cartoons Of The Year" are THE Books on this Subject. And if: "The Daily Show" is must-see viewing in your home, this Book belongs on your Bookshelf as well...FIVE STARS !!!

Still the Gold Standard of Editorial Cartoons

Since the 1980's I have purchased this book. Each year I find it rewarding. I am disturbed at the fact that too many papers do not have regular cartoonists. They are valuable and needed. There is indeed humor, as this collection so well shows, in the foibles of our political life. If you don't have it, buy it. Better still, try to get your library to get this and past issues. It is a valuable resource.
