This looks like a reprint of the original work by Bingham about his "discovery" of Machu Picchu. I read the original 40 years
ago, and it sparked a lasting desire to go see this place for myself. I finally made it, and it is all I imagined it to be.
If this is, indeed, a reprinting of Bingham's original expeditions, they are facinating period pieces full of the hardships
of exploring before tourism, basic amenities, travel health care, much less maps. Machu Picchu was, of course, not lost to
the Inca descendants, only to the White educated explorers from afar, so Bingham didn't really "discover" it, but he certainly
publicized it and Yale helped!

A trip through Peru nearly a century ago that is as compelling now as when Bingham wrote the book. We are always looking for
something we know is 'out there'. Hiram Bingham not only found what he was searching for, but the added surprise experience
of seeing the breath taking beauty of Macchu Picchu. The reader is not lost in the words on a page, but lost in the Sacred
Valley, the spectacular mountains, the indigenous peoples and the wonder of explorers such as Bingham.

Henry Stuart, Lord Darnley, murdered King of Scotland may have had few qualities that in our modern society would be perceived
as admirable. However, he was of great royal birth, intelligent, charming and the victim of his own circumstances. Like
his wife, Mary, Queen of Scots, he lived the life he was given to the fullest, making poor and unfortunate choices. He was
arrogant and trusting, his two greatest weaknesses. This book gives an excellent background to an often forgotten King.

To paraphrase Erich Segal, "What can you say about a twenty-one year old creep who died?" This is the first biography of
Darnley in the four hundred years since his murder. Anyone who reads about that appalling young man can only hope it's the
last.

This is the only book about modem design i have found for a long time. You may find the concept, architecture and implement
method in the book. I expect the author will write a book about the real example of modem design.
Essentially not a very good book.

Author cannot make up his mind as to whether he wanted to write a
technical reference book for modems or an introductory book for "dummies." Sometimes the text is written as if it is a non-reference book, but the equations and figures come up without enough explanation, so it assumes that you know the subject well. If you are looking for a solid technical reference on modems, this isn't it. The figures are over-simplified so much as to be sometimes hard to understand.
Only reason to buy it is because there are no other reference books on the subject. It is certainly way over-priced.

From the back cover:
Innocent seduction...
When prim, proper Esther Miles took over the Benton House Orphanage, she thought she'd be healing the most innocent casualties of the recent war. But the bruised and broken body of a roguish drifter dumped on her doorstep reduced her life to chaos. The very presence of the all-too-virile Donovan Reed with his outrageous charm threatened to corrupt both the children...and Essie.
As stolen kisses awakened passions Essie never knew existed, she defied the scandalmongers to keep Donovan by her side. But not even their love had the power to thwart a dangerous enemy who wanted nothing less than their lives...
And my review:
This book was an okay read. It is a historical romance set in Pennslyvania after the civil war. The book was fairly well researched, and the historical detail was presented quite well, in a way that didn't distract from the story.
There weren't any glaring problems with this book. It was more of what it didn't have. The characters were okay, but not people that you felt you knew or deeply cared about. They were just kind of there. I didn't find much charming about Donovan. It wasn't like he was a bad guy, or anything, but he wasn't anything to swoon over. Again, he was just there. Esther was okay, but she wasn't interesting enough for me to really care that much about her. I didn't hate her, but I didn't love her either. Like I said before, she was just there.
The romance in this book was also pretty weak. It just didn't move me at all. Most of us romance readers want a book to make us sigh and laugh and weep and hang on off the edge of our seats because we can't wait to find out what happens next. This book didn't do any of those things. It was just missing that special "spark" that makes a book alive with magic.
I got over halfway through this, waiting for it to pick up, before I tossed it aside. There wasn't anything horribly wrong with this, but it just wasn't quite good enough to keep me turning the pages. This was the first book I tried to read by this author. If I found another of her books at a garage sale, I might try it. But otherwise, I'll save my money.

Book is the life story of a woman born and raised in Colorado in a small mining town. Not very interesting at all. I do
not recommend this book unless you are personally acquainted with the author and have a personal reason for wanting it. It's
fairly boring, in my opinion.

This book is not helpful for people serious about getting into the Fifties' look. Maybe OK for those who view it as a fad
and have lots of money to spend on repros and authentic pieces at high end antique shops. It gives very little sense of real
Fifties decorating and "look"; replaces stylistic information with a lot of weird photography angles; and is depressingly
short of useful ideas. If you want to intersperse one or two 50s pieces in an otherwise contempory decor, this book might
be helpful. I found it pitifully inadequate.
For serious Fifties afficinados or those who want genuine inspiration, I suggest instead 'Atomic Ranch: Design Ideas for Stylish Ranch Homes', by Michelle Gringeri-Brown, Gibbs Smith, Publisher, Layton, Utah, 2006.
Or 'Eichler: Modernism Rebuids the American Dream'.

I don't actually OWN the book. I am required to use it in teaching at a middle school level home school co-op. I made a commitment
to stay the year, but it's been a very long year, what with writing my own curriculum as I go. I didn't know I'd signed on
for that.
I start nearly every session with "There is ANOTHER error in your book."
From misplaced anatomy to misdefined scientific terms, this book has it all. Did you know that pancreatic enzymes flow into your stomach? My nursing anatomy classes must have been mistaken (NOT). Did you know that permafrost occurs at elevations so high that the ground never freezes? I think that might be a surprise to those who live in arctic climes.
The book has lots of useless glossy color pictures where there should be text explaining actual science.
It has middle-school level flippant conversational tone. Like I need THAT in a textbook when I'm surrounded by middle-school kids.
In short, if you love science, you will hate this book. If you hate science, you may learn or teach things that simply aren't true. If you want to look at pretty pictures (they are) and write your own curriculum, then this just might be the book for you.

There is only one good line in this book where the main character was described as the straight man to fate's comedy. The
rest of the book was lackluster. The female author of the book aparently knows little about the real issues that would be
on the mind of a middle aged man. I wouldn't reccomend this book unless you are interestred in semi abusive boring relationships.

If you are purchasing this book for a course, check the course requirements closely. I bought this book and later found out
that the one being used for my course was one version newer. Apparently these are updated yearly, a few words added here
or there and blam, last years is obsolete. Since I needed the accompanying disc for the online course (verifies) I had to
purchase another book.
