I bought this book for a class about two years ago, it was a not required, but my professor suggested it in addition to our required text. After the semester ended, the course was reformatted, and this book was not being bought back. This book sat on the shelf with others I've kept, decided to buy, or also have been left with until about November.

I really wish we had used the book, I wish that I had read it earlier because some of the design principles raised by Bell have dramatically helped to improve my work. I haven't finished the book yet, but it has helped me greatly to understand my own designs to explain them to others, as well as to form a starting point with the idea that humans have certain native proportions, angles, shapes, colors, and patterns that are perceived as beautiful. These concepts are necessary when you are involved in landscape architecture, and I'm very glad I ended up using this book.

Latter-Day Spies is the kind of series that I wish I could read to my kids every night! Michele Ashman Bell has a talent for keeping the tempo from dragging and presenting a new twist in almost every chapter. She also includes some fun science and magic tricks as part of the story. I would recommend this book (and her other Spyhunt book "The Dragon's Jaw") to anyone age 8 and up.

Excellent perspective on a historic race

As a fan of Le Mans, I had been looking forward to reading this book for some time. I was very pleased when I finally did. I have read numerous books on Le Mans through the years, but this is absolutely the best. Some tend to be too laborious, but Laban's book strikes a near perfect balance in its quest to cover the whole history of Le Mans since 1923. It kept me engaged throughout as I discovered details that I hadn't known, yet it was perfect for anyone who is even casually interested in this great and historic race. At a very reasonable price with great photos and organized text that enabled the reader to keep up with details. I loved the size and the layout and the quality of stock was spot on. Again, absolutely the best book on Le Mans.

His pictures are worth 1000 words. The Waterer collection is worth its weight in gold. I really wish his works would be reprinted. (And there are a number of people like me out there.) In the SCA, this is the handbook of choice for all leatherworkers.

Antique University Course
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2005-10-07
This is an antique classical course. It's main purpose is to train the student to write on par with Joseph Addison. It requires The Spectator by Joseph Addison. I found The Spectator in two volumes on Alibris, excellent condition, J. B. Lippincott Company 1890. You're to read a piece by Joseph Addison three times and then you attempt to write what you have just read. Thus it's important to find a copy of the The Spectator that doesn't have any editing by Joe Blow.

You're expected to know Latin and it is assumed that you do so. There are interpretations of the Latin at the end of each chapter but it is disruptive.

It's excellent. I highly recommend it. I also recommend the simplified Christian dialect that is the present fad and learning material from Memoria Press to start the Latin.

Three narratives of star-crossed heroines and their unwanted heroes entangled in life's dilemmas. Jayne Anne Krentz and Heather Graham Pozzessere deliver award-winning tales that keep me returning for their new books and turning the pages in this one. To my delight, Stella Cameron is a new find and her artful plot development just as fun to read as my other favorites. Get ready to be charmed and enjoy with some relaxing music!

die-hard pack rat shares her stuff

like the proverbial pack rat -- filling his lair with bits & pieces of this & that -- ruth bell graham has rummaged around in her mental attic & come up with 132 bits & pieces of this & that to share with her readers. each tiny chapter is filled with vignettes, anecdotes, poems & quotes that somehow join together to give an intimate portrait of the life & times of this inspiring woman of faith. you could easily use this book like a devotional & just read one tiny section a day, or you could sit down & read the whole thing in one sitting (as i did!) the bits & pieces range the entire gamut: from the deeply profound (like the one about the chinese executioner who discovered that God could forgive even murder), to the merely amusing (like the one about the time the grahams served a bowl of "tadpole soup" to a family friend) &, like a day spent digging through the attic looking for secret treasure, it's well worth the effort spent -- once you find IT! :)

This "coloring book" is amazing. While teaching children about Antigua, Guatemala it teaches them English and Spanish. The descriptions of each picture are in both English and Spanish. My husband and I are adopting from Guatemala and I purchased this and the other one about Guatemalan Holidays and Festivals ahead of time so I can help teach my little boy about the wonderful country he came from. This is wonderful. Hope I can find more like it.

Step back in time to 1776 & witness the American Revolution.

Gilbert Morris has become one of my favorite writers of all time. His House of Winslow series still invites me to visit our past and watch how our nation comes to be what it is today.

With The Liberty Bell series the journey begins all over again. But this time we slow the pace and look even deeper into the soul of our nation at its beginnings.

You will meet historical figures such as George Washington, John and Samuel Adams, and others on this journey. But this is not the two dimensional portraits we see thoughout history. We touch the flesh and bone these people were. Rounding out the story with his own charatcer creations, Gilbert Morris gives his reader not just a look at our history, but the feel of it as it happened.

If you do not want to read every book in this series, then use this as a warning. Don't read the first chapter of the first book. I am currently reading my 26th book by Gilbert Morris. And I hope to read at least 26 more.

Gilbert Morris has become a close friend of mine. Sad to say, but we have never met. But through his writings we have become lifetime friends. I look forward to our quiet moments together as he not only tells me the history of my past, but he allows me to see it come to life.

An excellent starter for anyone interested in the Kid...

Bob Boze Bell lays out almost all the known facts about the Kid in a direct manner without any superfluous literary flourishes. Of course, this at time renders the book a little difficult to read (bullet points on the facts can sometimes get dull) and an index would have greatly helped in keeping track of all of the players in the Lincoln County War, but those complaints can be overlooked. Bell's art is a little spotty. Sometimes breathtaking, sometimes amateurish. His grasp of human anatomy needs some work, and his style isn't close to being solid, but when he gets it right he really gets it right. I'd have appreciated his thoughts on some of the more well-known films on the Kid, outside of the 'Young Guns' films (which any Western buff would discard outright anyway) such as his opinion on the best portrayals of the Kid and Garrett, but that's really probably only me.

All in all, one of the most accessible and entertaining pieces of history on the Kid.
