This is an awesome book. Homeward Heart is one of those books that you just can't put down. Once you start reading, you can't wait to find out what happens next. You are able to be a part of the storyline. You are there in the book with those characters. It is a book that clearly shows the power of God at work in the lives of people. It is very realistic, very well written. I look forward to reading other books by this author.

Most people didn't realize that the famous Pussy Galore from James Bond is in fact a real Judo expert. This book is written by Honor Blackman and is full of great photos of the beautiful actress in her Judo Gi and other attire as she demonstrates her expert knowledge of self defense against several male attackers. In the book she gives very detailed and practical instruction for self defense and outlines some of the more often used moves in this martial art. She truly was an amazing woman well ahead of her time who not only was able to catch the eye of men with her stunning looks but also able to Judo flip them across the room like a sack of potatos! Honor Blackman started using some martial arts first in the Avengers series which furthered her personal interest in Judo. She then began an intense study of the art of Judo practicing it for years afterward. As her skills became more developed she was able to demo her abilites to the public for womens self defense, which at that time was still a fairly new concept in that a woman could defend herself in any situation even overpowering a man. There were also films made by the BBC featuring MS Blackman using her dangerous skills against a volunteer male attacker. Of course this all prompted her to publish a book which would forever serve as a helpful guide to generations of not only women but also men interested in pursuing the martial arts. The book although written in the 60's, is still as practical today as it was back then and should be in every MA enthusiasts collection if at the very least for it's wonderful nostalga and tribute to the very legend of MS Honor Blackman.

This book deals with the Greek War of Independance of 1821. What set this book apart is that although it deals with a historical account, the author Harry Mark Petrakis, gives life to the fabled warriors of the independance War. It really made an impression on me, because, when one reads a history book, all one is doing is basically reading an event that happened, and being re-told. This book, re-tells the event, but puts you in the front seat, you live and breath amongst the heroes, and are thrown in the heat of the battle, and the bitter sweet defeat. Overall, although fictitional with what transpired during these events, it was great to be part of the book.

These authors successfully introduce, analyze and explain this crucial aspect of healthcare today: Using the data we collect.
Strengths: Focuses on managerial leadership as the fulcrum for implementing change in an organization. Good examples.
Weaknesses: Does not do statistical analysis adequate justice. (But you may find this to be a strength!)

16 stories from one of the great sf writers of our time

Over the past fifteen years, M. Shayne Bell has gained a reputation as one of the contemporary masters of literary science fiction. Stories like "Mrs. Lincoln's China," "The Thing About Benny," and "Homeless, With Aliens" have become bywords among a certain type of speculative fiction reader - the kind of reader who knows that any month in which M. Shayne Bell's name appears on the cover of Asimov's, F&SF, or any of the other big SF mags is a month in which we have great reading to look forward to.
Alas, though Mr. Bell has garnered critical acclaim and numerous nominations and awards for his work, he remains one of those writers whose stature among fellow writers outstrips his name recognition among readers at large. I (along with a lot of other professionals in the field) hope that this collection will help change that.

HOW WE PLAY THE GAME IN SALT LAKE is a jewel of a short story collection. Bell's style is unfailingly spare, elegant and understated. His subjects range from paleontology and genetic engineering to AIDS, the global economy and domestic violence. His characters cover a vast territory stretching from Africa and Siberia, to the slums and condos and paleontology digs of the American West. And, as always, Bell's work is subtle, thoughtful, and extraordinarily big-hearted.
These are stories to be savored again and again, and this collection is a wonderful summing up of the career to date of one of today's major sf writers.

A group of old men gathers on an estate in Poland for a hunting party. It's the early 1980s...the Warsaw Pact is still in existence, but cracks are starting to appear. The men in the hunting party are highly influential members of each of the various countries' communist parties. A young French communist acts as translator, and he slowly discovers the story of each of these men, how their idealism eroded, how the Soviet Union loomed over them and their countries...
It's a fantastic story, outstanding writing by Pierre Christin and Enki Bilal's artwork is just extraordinary. Bilal uses color schemes as symbols, it took me awhile to catch on. See of you can figure out what his use of the colors red and yellow symbolizes.
Buy this wonderful, tragic story that ends on a strangely prophetic optimistic note, and get a painless education in how the countries in Eastern Europe after WW2 learned to hate/love
the Soviet Union.

I first "had" to read this book while in school in Italy and wrote a summary for each chapter read. At the time (I was only a pre-teen) I did not fully appreciate this book. Last week I re-read it and at as a 41-year old adult I saw things I had never before. The main story of Renzo and Lucia's attempt to get married is woven through a number of events - historical and fictitious - that depict the area around Milan in the mid-1600's. The scenes of desperation, faith, pestilence and redemption stay with you and now I finally appreciate why this book has been, for generations, a must-read for all Italian students. The book is quite long and takes time to read, but it is well worth it.

In his latest book, I'M COMING TO TAKE YOU TO LUNCH, Simon Napier-Bell takes the reader on a fascinating whistle-stop tour of the dubious world of pop-star management with glimpses into the even shadier lifestyle of Napier-Bell himself. The book documents a chronology of events leading up to Wham's appearance, inluding the backstage promotion by the author, to make true his pledge of making them the biggest act in the world. This all leads up to their historic performance as the first western pop act to play in China.
He captures with great accuracy the incestuous sui-generis nature of doing business in China in the early 80s, everybody seeming to know everyone else's business and elbowing into every deal going.
Napier-Bell balances the pitch of his story-telling between a tone of 'catty' and insightful and sensitive making the book eminently readable with a nice narrative flow.. Recommended to anyone with an interest in pop-culture, public-relations or just plain hype - those with an understanding of Asia will undoubtably recognise stereotypical characters amongst those depicted.
