Bell Books

I purchased this book to augment my reading list for a Master's in International Relations course on Chinese culture and politics and it proved to be priceless. Although I have a limited academic background in Chinese history and philosophy I found this book to be quite accessible. That does not necessarily mean that it was always an easy read, however with effort a relative newcomer to the topic can gain much from this book. Also, because it aims above the casual reader it will also be of value to the more experienced scholars.

I'M NOT THE FIRST PERSON TO REVIEW THIS BOOK. APPARENTLY AMAZON, WHICH IS TRYING TO SELL THIS BOOK, DIDN'T LIKE A POSITIVE REVIEW OF THIS BOOK. CRAZY!

I recommend this book, but because of Amazon's attitude which is perverse, buy it eleswhere. I suggest through American Renaissance's website. Anyway, here's the review that was axed by Amazon. I managed to copy it:

The best endorsement this book ever has was from the Anti-Defamation League in 1933. This self-appointed liberal censorship lobby advised:

"We are interested in stifling the sale of this book. We believe that this can be best accomplished by refusing to be stampeded into giving it publicity. Every review or public criticism of the book of this character brings it to the attention of many who would otherwise know nothing of it. This results in added sales. The less discussion there is concerning it, the more sales resistance will be created."

This has been the attitude of the liberal establishment ever since: Ignore it and it will go away. This is definitely one book 'they' don't want you to read. All the more reason to read it, from cover to cover.

The contents explain why America became great and spread from ocean to ocean. It wasn't just an accident of history but the inherent destiny of a great race. Madison saw clearly that the fate of nations ALWAYS depended on their racial content, a view that has been suppressed for decades by the PC media, the establishment, and pro-immigration big business, even though science and common sense have always backed up the fact that different races behave on average in quite different ways.

When it first appeared back in the 30s, Henry Fairfleld Osborn commented, "The character of a country depends upon the racial character of the men and women who dominate it. I welcome this volume as the first attempt to give an authentic racial history of our country."

Unfortunately, this great book came out in the era of Nazi Germany, when the excesses of that group of extremists cast a subjective shadow on the objective notion of racial difference. The book has languished in relative obscurity ever since although its message has never been more relevant to an America that is changing its racial composition by the day.

Consuming Geographies probably will be one of the best books on how food constructs our social life. Beardsworth and Keil explain th main role of food and identity in different social scenarios. The introduction of the book gives the state of the art if someone is trying to study food and identity. Finally, the bibliography can give good references for those interested in foodways.

Bell builds on his previous work "The Afro-American Novel and Its Tradition"; whose content is alluded to in the subtitle for this work. Chapters two thru five of this book are revisions and summaries of parts of the previous work. What is new to this book are its introductory memoir "On Becoming an African American Scholar," its Introduction, chapters one and six thru eight, and the conclusion. A professor of English at Pennsylvania State U., Bell both expansively and acutely deals with the body of African American literature. His knowledge of this field is encyclopedic. While sharing in the common origin of the folk literature, African American literature nonetheless reflects broader literary movements such as neorealism, modernism, and postmodernism. Such authors have also had the outstanding talent and creativity to develop distinctive styles and voices. This voluminous, comprehensive study also ranges to what Bell terms "paraliterature," which might also be called popular literature. This includes pulp fiction, formulaic adventure stories, supernatural tales, romances, science fiction, mystery and crime, and gay literature. Bell does not force these greatly diversified genres ranging from the enduring literary works of Richard Wright and Toni Morrison to the science fiction of Ray Delany and the mysteries of Walter Mosby into a procrustean bed of the folk tale sources of all. Rather, his ingenious linking of them together while doing justice to their uniqueness creates a constellation of African American literature which is both a guide to it and inducement for exploration of it.

Mister Bell has written a book that speaks about faith, love, and God in terms that are fresh and modern. "Contemporary" indeed!

You won't find florid prose in his poetry, but, what you will find is a very personal journey through one man's celebration of his faith and love of God.

This is a sweet story about a little boy getting a hearing aid and all of the issues surrounding that for most children. Cosmo Gets an Ear explains on a child's level what happens when Cosmo must get a hearing aid. How Cosmo's hearing loss was first detected as well as visits to the audiologist are described in a very comical manner. The story is written in a way that the reader or listener can interact by answering multiple-choice questions along the way. Cosmo goes from having no idea what a hearing aid is to talking with his friend about it and finally to realizing the benefit he receives when wearing his hearing aid. Hearing aid care is also shown in the story. Cosmo speaks to his class about his hearing aid and explains his hearing is helping him hear like glasses help people see - ear glasses.

Schlegel fully understands and explains Shakespeare's works exceptionally. I found the essay on Macbeth to be thourough and helpful. Like A.C. Bradley he makes points that are well supported by the play and provides unique perspectives.

I got stuck a lot in this challenging game, especially when getting the gems. Noooo!!!! It's so hard! But then, a Prima Game Guide came down from heaven...and everything became....really, really easy. This guide includes step-by-step strategy for going through the game, with really cool boss strategies, and the easiest ways to get all gems! This is DEFINITELY not a waste of money! HALLALUYAH! HALLALUYAH!

The book takes us through her depraved, sexually abused childhood, the murders and the trial and asks the question why?

The book cannot be put down, its well written and very disturbing.

Latin American literary and cultural criticism has produced in the past few years interesting and different approaches to posmodern problems. In this anthology, Bell, Le May and Orr compile a series of articles that are destined to be a must-read in the future. Frederic Jameson studies the exchanges between American and Latin American perceptions of each other in the context of Late Capitalism. This study is part of a wider Jameson work, and offers a wonderful and different insight of the cultural relation of the U.S. with the countries south of the Rio Grande. Coronil analyzes Fernando Ortiz's critical operation in the definition of the term transculturation, in an essay that estates the clear intentions of breaking with the writing from the center. In this same tone, Pratt discusses the concept of nation, while Kaminsky focuses in gender. Beverley and Mouat discuss Latin American postmodern conflicts through two important topics: testimonio and Boom experimental novel. Gonzalez Echeverría develops a part of his archive theory in a study of the relation between García Márquez and Bolívar. Finally, Luisa Valenzuela criticizes the concept of Latin American writing. The book is especialized, but constitutes an excellent selection of many current discussions regarding Latin American literature. Fully recommendable for students and interested readers.
