Voice is everything in the droll story of Bartleby of course--because the enigmatic, silent clerk is really a mirror for the sensibility of the teller, his Wall Street boss. Melville is highlighted here in the best of his city stories, a mode he excelled in as much as his better known sea sagas.

The Lightning Rod Man and The Bell Tower, two minor pieces from Piazza Tales, are tossed in for balance to make an interesting set. Here you will meet even more obscure Melville masks--both somewhat exasperating--Melville the humorist & Melville the exotic. All of these stories come out of the period Melville was experimenting and playing with new modes, still gamely trying to make a living as a writer despite a dwindling audience post-white whale. Usually neglected, they are brought excitingly alive in all their patented Melvillian wierdness on this little gem of a CD.

If you like "Saved By The Bell then this is the book for you! This book is excellent! Its good for all ages. This is Beth Cruise's best work! I recommend this book to anyone who wants to have a good laugh!

The first time I read this book was in my Black Studies class; my teacher brought it to class one day. It immediately caught my attention because I am a mother of a two-year old, energetic little boy! I knew that this book would be great for him! It teaches black children, particularly black boys, to be proud of who they are and to think nothing less of themselves.

The Cover is beautifully made. This book is worth the money and a collectable if you like old books. Beautifully illistrated by engraved pictures based on paintings by the Illman Brothers.

Finally! This guide is a wonderful, simple, logical insight to meditation. Weisman and Smith answered many questions I had regarding Buddhism and meditation. I am so grateful for finding this informative book and hope to incorporate some of these methods into my life. I highly recommend this reading for anyone who has questions on meditation and transforming equanimity and inner peace into their life.

This book depicts a man who had compassion for other people. He'd been through many trials and tribulations in his life. This book is intriguing and I recommend it to anyone out there, interested in politics or not.

If you like The Spoon River Anthology check out this book, whose relaxed but timeworn speaker maps a piece of the world in long lines that limn portraits and landscapes effortlessly and indelibly. Buy it for the stories, the tough-mindedness. Buy it for the wonderful syntax, really. Lyon's long sentences, filled with masterly digressions, are a joy to read.
