A history, guide and plant guide for alpine adventures.

This little book covers the history, geology, weather and climate of the New England mountain summits. It takes you upward through the northern hardwood forest, transition zone, spruce-fir zone, balsam fir zone and the alpine zone. It is an identification guide to the plants, their habitats and communities. Animals -- birds, amphibians, mammals and insects -- are described. The book design and layout are clear and attractive. I give the photos A, the reproduction A-. There is an index to the illustrated species, scientific and common names. Altogether it is an exquisite, small book to carry on the trail and to enjoy by the fireside. 96 pages.

I thought this book was great! The pictures of the objects are beautiful. Where a picture could not be obtained there is usually a detailed sketch of the object. The descriptions give not only insight into use of the archaological object but also surrounding information like similar objects and archeological context. Then the essays descibe the time period and unknown/debated issue of Egyptian Archeology. As a newbie to Egyptian Archaeology I found the book easy to read and felt that things were explained well.

Landon Covington Bell's Cumberland Parish, Lunenburg County, Virginia 1746-1816 is an excellent research tool and historical account of the area. Included are family descendants of the Rev. James Craig and the Rev. John Cameron. Many other families are included in this work: Gee, Hardy, Bacon, Claiborne, Stokes and many more. The second part of this book includes the Vestry Book 1746-1816. This is a valuable source of marriages, tithes and property information.

These comics are enjoyed by our entire family. Our 10 year old son can't seem to put them down as the illustrations and content are clever and entertaining. We love how Bently Boyd brings history to life in a fun, creative and easy reading style for all reading levels. After my son is finished reading he can't wait to share what he read with the entire family. We have acquired the entire set of Chester Comix with Content Series and love them all. These make a GREAT gift for anyone of any age or even for teachers as they are an awesome learning tool. A gift that keeps giving. This is a definate must have for the entire family. ENJOY!

Mr. Johnson would have you believe that when soft rot occurs in bell peppers, it's because the farmers have been naughty. Now, I'm not a religious man, but certainly Mr. Johnson knows that farmers are inherently naughty and his supposed revelation is nothing but a sham. Other than that, a solid read ... right up there with Bridges of Madison County and Prince of Tides.

Rarely has a book of poetry been able to blend both the political and the emotional together in a way that makes the reader want more, as this one does. The imagery superb, the emotions real, and the facts are in your face in a light rarely seen. While reading it, I could tell that Alex Hutchinson poured his heart and soul into this book and I was glad to have read it.

Any interested in bells, whether it be musically or otherwise, will find Ann Spencer's And Round Me Rings to be a wonderful history of bells in general, with history reading like fiction in all its drama. Bell tales and folklore cover the world and provide facts and folklore gleaned from centuries of accounts about bells. Highly recomended for school and community library collections, And Round Me Rings is a marvelous and fun title.

Since Alberto Blanco and Rodolfo Morales are so popular I feel almost sacrilegious saying this was not my favorite book, but it is a good one. It deserves more than a 4, but maybe not a 5. Why? Because the text is wordy and would lose most kids I know. And the art is not my type of art, but art is so personal. The story is about Angel who is sad that his town's church bell has disappeared, and how he gets it back for the people. This is a book worth buying, especially as a bilingual one for teaching both languages.

This is a cool story. It was easy to pretend that I was Angela when I was reading the story. I read the whole book in a short time because I found it hard to leave the story of Angela's adventures once I had started reading. I hope another book is coming soon. I want to know what adventures Angela and her friends will get into next. I have loaned the book to some of my friends and they all love it.

The Smallest Angels Battle Lucifer on Earth
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2004-05-23
What really happened in the beginning? Why didn't the Almighty God destroy Lucifer? Well, the answer can be found in this highly anticipated first book of the Angelic series. The story surrounds 6 shimmerlings (the smallest angels) who were pulled from the heavens during the insurrection. Placed in the care of a childless pastor and his wife, the children grow in grace with no knowledge of the past. However on the tenth year of their earthly existence, strang and inexplicable things began to happen. Their destiny is unplugged and now they must face their greatest enemy, again, but now the battle will be fought on earth rather than the infinite expanse of heaven.
