GaiaStar Mandalas: Ecstatic Visions Of The Living Earth by print artists Bonnie Bell and David Todd is a simply beautiful, full-color artbook showcasing gorgeous natural Mandalas celebrating the beauty and harmony of our mother planet. Although there is a brief text introduction, the majority of GaiaStar Mandalas is given over entirely to breathtaking color photographs of superbly presented art. The rich, vibrant color and texture patterns inspired by a multitude of cultural traditions are most impressive in this wondrous and unique gallery.

I became enchanted with mandalas a couple of years ago while seeking a means to occupy my mind and hands while suffering through a rather nasty allergic reaction characterized by incessant itching. I turned to coloring with felt markers and especially enjoyed stained glass patterns. Many stained glass patterns are, in fact, mandalas so I progressed to mandala pattern books. I found mandalas blissfully calming which led to research on the subject and ensuing mandala mania. I've colored and seen a lot of them and can say without reservation this book has the most fascinating, breathtakingly gorgeous, engrossing and inspirational
collection I've ever seen. No, it isn't a coloring book. It is, rather, an exploration of the natural patterns found both within and without. I now itch for more.

This book was recommended to me by my yoga teacher and its terrific. It shows a variety of postures and explains their benefits. Having been recently diagnosed with MS I was looking for information on things I could do to help myself in addition to the conventional medicines and this book had reference to MS in it and how yoga can benefit those with certain diseases. The pictures are great as are the explainations. I highly recommend this book

Gentle is a strong presence in this book.

This book shows people who aren't flexible or impaired that anyone can do YOGA. It has unique quotes placed between chapters to inspire. Poses are shown, then modifications are pictured some are actually photos, others black and white drawings. I viewed this book, while in the hospital, it was helpful in regaining my focus on health and exercise.

The book is unique in it's style; It is very descriptive and encouraging to anyone to try and receive the benefits that YOGA offers.

In the spirit of James Allen and other "New Thought" philosophers, this book elucidates the power of the mind and the best ways to harness that power for personal and professional success. It is as valuable today for what it has to offer as it was nearly hundred years ago. Enlightening!

Prentice Mulford (1834-1891) was a knock about sort of chap.He had various occupations, such as school teacher and writer. He hung out with writers such as Mark Twain and Bret Harte in California. This book has some very good advice for those interested in self development. It is very practical advice and it works if put into practice. He discusses the use of the mind in positive ways, and the avoidance of negative habits. For example, he talks about the need to avoid gossip, slander and nit-picking.He advises to keep away from "despondent, reckless and purposeless people" because they sap your mind power.Very revelant to us today is his advice to avoid pictures and stories about crime and grisly behaviour.Today we are swamped with negative images in the media, and they only bring us down to their low level, which Prentice would well understand. He says we need to keep our minds fresh and not think too much about the past.He doesn't pretend to be a perfect person without shortcomings, and explains that he had to work at his development and overcome his lapses.I have read a number of self-help books, and this one is near the top of the list for genuine, practical advice.Application of his ideas on a day to day basis will bring positive results.

An epic story to inspire young women.

I first read Gudrun when I was twelve years old. I searched for a copy of this book for ten years. And yet, the story is so clear to me. The tale of Gudrun is more than a mere romantic story of knights and a beautiful princess. What impressed me about this book, even at twelve years old, were the strong female characters. Gudrun's mother, widowed on the day of her daughter's betrowthal, waited ten years to bring justice to those who stole all that was precious to her. The memory of Gudrun, imprisoned and forced by the Queen of Normandy to wash clothes in the icy river, year after year. Never yeilding to the demand that she willingly marry the Prince. Even the young lady in waiting, taken with Gudrun, who fell in love with a Norman and betrayed her Princess gives us insight into the strength and weakness of women.

This book is in danger of becoming totally forgotten. Gudrun is an unique survival in Medieval literature. This epic is the tale of the kidnapped Princess Gudrun whose captors intend for her to marry the Prince of Normandy, although she is already betrothed to King Herdwig. Central to this epic is the titanic contest of wills between the Queen of Normandy and Gudrun. Originally written in High Medieval German, this version of the epic was carefully translated into modern German in the 1920's and was hailed as a triumph. However, the author, novelist and poet Alma Johanna Koenig was deported as a Jew after the takeover of her native Austria and died in 1942 at Minsk Concentration camp. Anthea Bell translated the surviving work into English keeping the Beauty and Poetry of Koenig's work. Although Koeing intended this book for young people, it rings true with all the depth and glory of the Medieval original. This book is not easily avaliable but please find the book, many Libraies have it, and keep alive the legacy of beauty that the Nazis couldn't destroy

This author really knows how to write them...

I have always been skeptical about buying strategy guides, but the author of this Hexen game guide really knows how to put it together to make the book totally understandable and easy to use. From the beginning where there is a brief synopsis of the game and what led up to it, to the in-depth analysis of the 3 playable characters, the monsters, and tactics to deal with them, what weapons to use for each different situation, and how to use the artifacts to your advantage. However, where this guide really shines is the walkthrough section. Extremely detailed, easy-to-read maps for all 31 levels, and the text accompanying the maps is like having your own personal tour guide along with you. Mind you, I don't like to use a strategy guide to spoil all the adventure, but when you play this game, you realize it is almost essential to have some 'help' along the way to victory against Korax and his minions. In closing, I would like to add that I hope to see more strategy guides from this author, as he is very player-friendly in his layout of his guides.

Great maps. Extra Cheat codes in the back if you really want them. Helpful descriptions of each hub and what you are trying to do in each one. Because I had the book (I don't usually buy these kinds of books but I was really "stuck") I got deeper into how to use different artifacts that I normally just ignored. This made the game so much fun that I played it twice as two different characters.

I read this book in a day; it held me right from the beginning. I was so engrossed that I nearly missed my plane as I didn't hear the flight called. Bell writes spellbinding fiction which you don't want to put down. If you enjoy legal thrillers you will enjoy this book.

James Scott Bell, a very accomplished author, meets with success again in this continuation of the life of Kit Shannon. This spunky lady lawyer exhibits "likability" right off the bat. A very entertaining story that drew me into its pages from the first chapter to the suprising climax, right on through to the delightful ending! You will not be disappointed if you like to read dramatic, mystery books. A little bit of all elements that make a good mystery book are found here. Alas, no swear words, thankfully, so that makes it a GREAT book, in my thoughts! Can't wait for the next one in the series!

Buy this book. It's very very cheap. If you stop and visit online book sellers as Alibris or even Abe books, you'll find out that the average price for Hirschfeld's books is 200 dollars. They are all out of print now (except for Hirschfeld Online) and one day, this one will be too. So do yourself a favor: if not because the guy is a genius and the illustrations are all spectacular, buy this book because you are a smart investor.

Genius in a bottle of ink

When my son was seven, he used to eagerly check the arts and leisure section of the Sunday New York Times each weekend to see if there was a new drawing by the "Nina Man". If there was, there would follow an intense exploration of the drawing, usually followed by a crow of delight, "I found the Ninas!" The "Nina Man" is, of course, Al Hirschfeld, still merrily among us at 99, and Nina is the name of is daughter, ingeniously hidden among the pen strokes of whichever person he was caricaturing. Hirschfeld is, purely and simply, a genius; a simple drawing brings out not only a person but a persona. The drawings in the book represent some of the best of his work, which spans six decades; and although the caricatures are named at the foot of the pages, the reader will have a lot of fun not only recognizing who the people are without the help of the captions, but also -- yes -- in searching for and finding the Ninas.

I picked this book up at Tower Books and Records in 1994,in Fresno, California. They had all this esoteric stuff in that store. What a find! An historical overview of the Devil, from all perspectives, from all religious angles. With this book, and Dr. Lewis Sperry Chafer's SATAN, what more could you ask for?! Heaven on earth ... uh, rather Hell on earth, in a heavenly fashion.

Buy this book. Then pick up a copy of Carus' VENUS, An Archaelogical Study of Woman. And stand in awe.
