I then turned to how to install a toilet, yup, it was there too. So was wiring, framing walls, building a stair way, roofing, venting gas appliances, and there's a section on solar heating systems. In short, I couldn't find anything about building a house that wasn't covered (except for finding the money to cover the cost). If you're going to build a house, or have one built, I can't recommend any book higher than this one.

a stunning rebuke to shallow-as-glass chick litReview Date: 2008-06-15
Now she's getting married to a man you've never met and cutting the cord for good.
And you're her only bridesmaid.
In the universe we now inhabit --- the urban chickscape of "Sex and the City" --- Cassandra Edwards would have a posse of smart-talking, Chardonnay-swilling pals to help her through this overwrought moment. They'd gab for hours about her choice of a bridesmaid's dress. They'd speculate about the groom's endowment. And they'd tease Cassandra for her ambivalence about catching the bouquet.
"Cassandra at the Wedding" is a stunning rebuke to that shallow-as-glass sensibility.
More to the point, it's a smart, stylish, disturbing novel --- a book much too good to languish at an Amazon.com ranking of 1,000,000.
But then, Dorothy Baker is not exactly a household name. Young Man with a Horn --- her fictionalized account of the doomed jazz great Bix Beiderbecke --- was published in 1938. It's pure pleasure; I've read it a dozen times since discovering it as a kid. I thought it was her only novel until a Butler reader tipped me to "Cassandra at the Wedding", the last of what turn out to be Baker's three novels.
Like "Young Man with a Horn," this novel begins effortlessly: "I told them I could be free by the twenty-first, and that I'd come home the twenty-second." That makes Cassandra seem chatty and friendly. Well, it doesn't take long for her bitchy side to surface. Example: Her twin's beloved is John Thomas Finch. Cassandra's comment: "Where'd she meet him --- Birdland?"
Soon we see that Cassandra is an inventory of neurosis. She's writing a thesis about French writers rather than be a writer --- her mother wrote plays and novels --- but she's stumbling even in her academic writing. Her biggest issue, naturally, is her twin. She's just obsessed. And with every detail of their lives. She was, she notes, born "two ounces heavier and eleven minutes older than the one named Judith."
As children, they lived on the Northern California ranch where Judith will be married. They came right home after school: "We didn't need people." Now, even though separated, they're so in tune with one another that they have both bought the same dress to wear at the wedding.
To Cassandra, that's one more metaphor for all that's wrong about Judith's wedding --- one more reason she must stop it. She explains this to us at great length, and some readers, wading through these pages, will think this book is just talk talk talk. It's not. Baker is doing something far more subtle and accomplished --- she's presenting a close account of an unraveling personality.
On the wedding day, there's an event. No spoilers here, but it's not the wedding, and it is a shocker. And it leads to more. And, in the end, you feel you've come to know some people at least as complex as you are and as twisted as some people you know.
Oh, there's a twitch I've failed to mention. "With men I feel like a bird in the clutch of a cat, terrified, caught in a nightmare of confinement, wanting nothing but to get free and take a shower," Cassandra tells us. Translation: She's gay. Context: "Cassandra" was published in 1962, so at no point is this ever made explicit. But you can read the entire book without being aware of her sexuality. For me, that's the mark of good writing.

A must have for mixed signal design.Review Date: 2007-08-21
Best book on mixed-signal circuit designReview Date: 2002-09-24
An excellent text for learning and for reference!Review Date: 2002-07-31
After the fundamentals of data converters are established, the text covers noise-shaping converters (including a review of some of the digital filtering concepts required to understand/implement these devices). This is one of the hottest topics in solid-state circuit design today, with journal articles appearing monthly on new topologies and uses for sigma-delta data converters. Very few textbooks are available that cover this topic, and it is great to have a book that teaches the noise-shaping concepts in such a straightforward manner.
There are a few chapters that cover implementation of data converters, including a very useful chapter on submicron CMOS circuit design. Rather than simply focus on the academic and `ideal' implementations of circuitry, this text takes a practical approach and recognizes that the real world is not perfect. This approach is seen throughout the text and gives a deeper appreciation for the specifications used to characterize converter performance, as well as the limitations with various circuit topologies.
In addition to data converters, there is a chapter on integrator-based CMOS filters (this is very applicable in today's mixed-signal CMOS designs), including filters that use the noise-shaping concepts discussed earlier.
Very few technical textbooks are as well thought as this one. From start to finish, the text is filled with practical examples that aid in the learning process. There are SPICE examples throughout the book, and the netlists will all run using WinSPICE (all netlists and WinSPICE are available for download ...). It is great to be able to play with these netlists and get a feel for how the circuits operate.
The final chapter in the book takes the concepts taught and shows real implementations of several circuits (on a breadboard and with hand-soldered circuits), including a noise-shaping modulator and a discrete analog integrator. The author proves that the concepts work with these implementations and discusses proper laboratory measurement and characterization techniques.
This book is a great teaching tool as a classroom text or as a self-study reference. The problems at the end of each chapter and the prototypes at the end of the book allow the reader to verify understanding, whether on paper or in the laboratory.

Very valuable work!!!Review Date: 2005-08-23
:D
well, If you familiar with Geisler Works, such as "When Skeptics ask" or "When critics ask", then you won't be surprized with format of this book. It takes Bible verses, over which confusion happens in various cults and clarifies original meaning of the passage by Biblical exegesis. Most, if not all, confusions happen due to misinterpretation, and pride of self-sufficiency :D ...when teacher doesn't evaluate context and does eisegesis instead of exegesis... which is very popular thing to do nowadays ;) !!!
I think this book must be present on EVERY Bible teacher's shelf to avoid mistakes of interpretation. Don't invent (square)wheel again, 'cause it won't work anyways. What can be worst than teaching others wrong doctrines???? This must be taken seriously!!!
God bless, and examine yourself teachers!
"one cannot recognize error unless one first understands truth"Review Date: 2007-08-14
Clear and concise, with references to the proper use of the Greek words that are manipulated by these religions. The book is divided into the Old and New Testament books, then the misinterpreted passage is discussed: how the cult has interpreted it, then the correction. Many more could be added, and at times can be repetitive. Contains a lengthy bibliography.
Who are considered cults: Jehovah's Witness, Mormons, Christian Science, Masons, Islam, Hinduism, New Age, Pentecostals, and yes, the Roman Catholics, and many more. Cults are growing and the dogmas stay entrenched----the church is failing in its teaching. These religions practice eisegesis (putting their words into passages), or reading into a scripture passage to fit their view, or not using the full passage; let scripture interpret scripture, and this will solve the problem.
We as Christians are beholden to go out to others and grow spiritually, but "one cannot recognize error unless one first understands truth".
All religions don't profess the truth to the way to God; if any religion works because they believe in a god, then we are left to human intellect to decide: the Christ is but a myth and the truth is skewed. Highly recommended for continued growth and knowledge.
Wish you well
Scott

This book is the most accurate representation of Arabs I have ever seen and should be read by all Americans especially U.S. government employees in the State Department and members of the U.S. military who plan to work or travel to the Middle East. This book provides knowledge and insight into the Arabs which will make the American experience in the Middle East more effective and accurate. I give this book five-stars for its accuracy and honesty.
