This novel examines the lives of women within one family - the changes from generation to generation, lost hopes and new dreams. The intricate patterns of women with and without men are illustrated thoughtfully and in a throughly entertaining and enjoyable way. I would recommend this book to anyone that was looking for a fun, readable book with plenty to think about and discuss.

Bailey's book deals with the attitudes towards English and how they have changed over the centuries. For this purpose the author has collected an impressive amount of evidence which he presents in a convincing, not overly academic way. Bailey deals both with attitudes towards English in Great Britian itself and abroad, that is in the former colonies. A highly recommended book!

A WONDERFUL Connecticut READ and a REAL destination!

I live in Connecticut, with a family of two elementary aged twins. We take a lot of day-trips, and as we are learning about our Connecticut History in the fourth grade, we've decided that there are still so many places to visit nearby. With our current gasoline "crisis"---if you live in Connecticut, or even close by in NY or RI or MA, coastal CT is still worth visiting. You don't have to be rich & famous, as some would have you to believe. Read this book and step back only about 30 years in time to a quieter life in a small town along the south east coast in CT, and you'll peek into a world that is sadly, slowly--disappearing.
With his meticulous research and easy going writing style, you will see into the very heart of the village--as it grew from those old dry Puritan societies of religious and farming men, to the lively tapestry of ethnic groups that it still is, today. The town of Stonington shifted its center from upland at the Road Church, in old "Wequetequock" to a place on the water called "Long Point" and so began its life as a major seaport.
I have lived in Connecticut most of my life and one of my very favorite places to wander through--is Stonington Borough. Sadly, the fishing fleet is depleted, but you can still hear the old ghosts of seacaptains and the Portuguese families who made this small village one of the best reasons to take a day-trip to explore it.
Wear GOOD walking shoes, and take your camera. Come in Autumn when the tourists are mostly gone. Water Street is where all the shops are, and you can find a pleasant place for coffee in quite a few establishments. The street is very narrow and becomes "one-way," so the best thing to do is find a spot to park at its beginning and walk down, and back up. The Lighthouse is a museum now, and well worth a visit too. If you are a painter, don't forget your easel or sketchbook. There are so many wonderful spots to visit, read the book for the fun of it and you may agree that Stonington is worth a visit. Even if "you can't get there from here" as the Yankee saying goes, the book is a fun and intimate read about life in a small, coastal New England village. How I wish it could remain frozen in time!

Since its October 2006 release, The Information Commons Handbook has received five reviews in the professional media, and all five have been highly favorable. In a "starred" review in Library Journal (1/15/07), Robert L. Battenfield wrote "There is a great deal of information here from a knowledgeable IC expert...Recommended for all librarians, library directors, library science faculty, and students with a keen interest in this timely issue." In American Libraries (Jan 2007) Mary Ellen Quinn commented "...according to The Information Commons Handbook, the [IC] concept is about more than technology; it is about 'how an organization reshapes itself around people using technology in pursuit of learning.'...this book provides a framework and useful tools for making the process a more proactive one." In the well-regard Canadian journal Partnership, Cees-Jan de Jong states that the IC Handbook "...is much more than a guide to developing a Commons in your library, rather it's a guide that will assist you in positioning your library to take advantage of collaboration, technology, and educational movements...[the book] is well-organized and thoroughly researched...recommended for library administrators, librarians (academic, school, and public), faculty, and teachers interested in realizing a new service model..." And in the July 2007 issue of portal: Libraries & the Academy, Robert A. Seal notes that: "...Beagle is a pioneer in the development of the concept and is perhaps the best-known name in the field." The book, he adds, is "...one of the most thorough and thoughtful analyses of its type in the literature...a thoroughly researched and thought-provoking volume that will be of use to practitioners and administrators alike."

This has been and is a very good guide to Burgundy giving good insights and details of all the different regions. I believe you can only get it used and personally I think it needs to be re-published. I am a professor and taking a group of students to the area, and it's the best guide specifically to the Burgundy I could find (covering culture, history, and current locations of interest). Maps are helpful as well as details about places. It could be laid out a little more helpfully in a bullet point fashion in some areas but for the most part it's worth a "look-over" if your headed to that region.

Finding a decent book on CAM has been difficult. This is the best book I have seen yet! Being a nurse certified in pain I always look for familiar authors. The authors and contributors to this book are both familiar and local to the Boston area where I practice.
An area of importance in treatment of pain is concern for the patient. This validates the pain and the patient knows someone is listening. This book enables the patient to "accept their limitations" (of pain) and be able to live a life that is best for them. The model of this book emphasizes therapeutic approaches to enhance healthy forms of living "while factors such as candy bars and coffee consumed all day long" will not be ignored.

This is a great book that was a real help in getting me through school and in my first jobs afterwards. It provides the clearest explanation of various spatial statistical techniques that I found (after an extensive literature review for a Masters thesis). The software package is great, particularly because it allows the reader to see all the theory in action in a graphical way.

I love this book for the simple reason that it encourages me to stay away from nicotine (I quit 3 weeks ago). I was looking for a book for ex-smokers and this is the best I found so far! It tells all about the dangers and politics of big tobacco. Useful for anyone who wants a well-researched and detailed account of why you should not start smoking (great for teens), why you should stop, and how non-smokers should protect themselves from second-hand smoke. Highly recommended!
