Vancouver's hip gallery, dining, and nightlife scenes; the art museums and architectural highlights of Toronto; Calgary's wild and woolly Stampede; and Montréal's charming French bistros and cafes. I learned all about Canada's great outdoors, from hiking in the national parks to biking its lovely backroads. It even pointed out the best places to spot puffins, whales, polar bears, moose, elk, and more.

This is a great book - it saved me a fortune because stuff that I would have thrown away I just made look brand new. I'm really bad at craft/decorating but the projects are really easy and it doesn't really matter if you make mistakes - it just adds to the charm!

This wonderful book was nominated ('shortlisted") for England's Booker Prize, a major British literary award. Gabirel Harvey is the son of an elderly, emotionally tyrannical father, and a sprightly young mother. Oswald and Amy are mismatched. The live a scraping-by existence in Postwar Britain, (the novel ends in the early 1980s). until Oswald comes into a fortune.Instead of being delighted with the money, Amy chafes under Oswald's flowering pretensions. She leaves abrubtly just before Gabriel's thirteenth birthday.Gabirel descends into a proverbial decline, but through common sense and wit, collects a great deal of experience, while waiting to hear directly from his mother.Bailey's description of London and its characters is insighful and zesty. We lean about Oswald's secrets. He claims to be an honest man, but it is revelaed near the end that he is anything but honest. This book is a well balanced combination of humor and sadness.

Identity politics lives
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2002-01-06
Bailey, a political scientist who until his untimely death in 2001 was one of the foremost authorities on gay politics and voting patterns in large cities, blends data with detailed studies of New York, Chicago, San Francisco, and Birmingham, Alabama, to illustrate the role gays and lesbians play as distinctive members of urban political communities, where they have traditionally been part of liberal coalitions. Bailey argues that the ends of urban-based gay political involvement have had more to do with the definition and assertion of identity than with influencing the levers of economic policy-making. At a time when "identity politics" as a mode of analysis has fallen out of fashion in academic gay studies, Bailey compiles an impressive array of evidence that identity politics, at least in the urban setting, actually is becoming more important as municipal politicians seek to build coalitions and consensus.

Talk to Fundamentalists

Explores all sides of the creationism debate and gives a sound and spiritually rich way of understanding the creation stories of Genesis. Bailey, a biblical scholar who holds a degree in physics (!), allows the Bible to speak for itself. A straightforward study of Genesis that explicitly answers fundamentalist questions on creationism. Useful for religion classes, high-school science classes, and seminarians! Wow!

Summer is almost here! What do you plan to do with all your summer days and nights? Bailey, Fred and Noah have come up with an idea for how they could make their summer fun and get extra credit for their home-school at the same time. Let's change the old chicken coop into a theater! Sparrow is a friend of theirs who wants to be a part of the production even though she is forced to be in a wheelchair. Noah and Fred are Bailey's adopted brothers. Sugar lives with her grandmother because neither of her parents care about her.

Their dad offers to help them convert the chicken coop into a theater, as long as they help with fixing it up for rehearsals and the production of the play. After all, they still have to do their regular chores. The play should have some history in it since there are a lot of ghosts in the history of their area. But the kids also like space adventures. They enlist the help of Dr Robinson, who helps them with a delightful and entertaining story. They came up with the idea of charging admission because they wanted to raise money for the chickens. They brainstorm their own ideas for a play and are given an old trunk full of costumes. It looks like they might have their own production after all.

Donise and Bean check into the Keswick Inn. Donise goes by the name of Li'l Bonbon and is immediately intrigued by the children's goals. However, since she was a child actress she decides that she needs to be the #1 director. She even rips up the script that the kids worked so hard to develop. Li'l Bonbon is brutally mean to all the cast members and certainly HATES Clover, Noah and Fred's dog. Li'l BonBon walks off in a huff. Will the production be put together by the end of summer? One of the kids thinks that they can drive, but end up in the lake and need a rescue. Is there a reason why Bailey's last name is Fish?

"Ghost of the Chicken Coop Theater" is a great story. It uses some historical facts along with a great storyline. It shows kids who have an imagination for their own fun. It also serves as a lesson on how to deal with a bully, even if the bully is an adult. I loved this book and didn't want to set it down until I was completely finished. "Ghost of the Chicken Coop Theater" will have you cackling with laughter from start to finish.

A Valuable Resource for Humanity
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-05-18
Glamour is much more than a term used to describe Hollywood celebrities - it is an illusory climate that effects all of humanity through a distortion of truth and a delusion of reality. This book provides an excellent description of how glamour bewilders, confuses and contributes to the problems of the world. In addition, it details the way out of the menacing influence of glamour by focusing conscious awareness in the mind and the light of the soul. This book is highly recommended for anyone who wants to find the way out of the fog, chaos and misconceptions of glamour and help humanity enter into the light of truth and reality.
