Excellent Introduction Into the Network EconomyReview Date: 2001-02-21
The content is well structured and presented. Some of the statements might be known from Kelly, Negroponte, Shapiro or Varian. In this book you find a lot of data, facts and case studies that proove those statements.
As an introduction the development and value chains in the fields of Telecommunications, IT and Entertainment are explained. The Network Economy is described as the convergence of these three businesses. The principles, rules and strategies of the Network Economy are derived from the described convergence. As a tribute to the sceptics there is even a section that deals with possible hindering causes for the predicted economic revolution.
Not being a theoretical textbook all of this is accompanied with case studies and interviews with Negroponte, Shapiro et al.
My favourite book about the Network Economy!

Difficult, but very worthwhile.Review Date: 2000-12-05
One strength of this method is that it emphasizes all twelve notes equally. (When I tried to improve my ear using the more traditional method of transcribing music, I got better with the diatonic notes and common chords, but got little practice and saw little improvement with the chromatic notes and more unusual chords.) Furthermore, by using the `random play' feature of my CD player, the order of the exercises keeps changing, which prevents me from inadvertently memorizing their order, which would effectively halt my progress.
A skeptic might ask whether my ear is really improving as a result of this CD, or whether I am getting better only at the (admittedly esoteric) exercises on this particular CD. I think my ear really has improved, since I'm listening to music with greater awareness of pitch. Also, I just started with Vol 2 of the two-note series, and the improvement resulting from Vol 1 seems to have carried over. Instead of starting with a one out of four success rate (as in my initial attempts with Vol 1), I typically get around half correct.
So far, I've had great results with Vol 1 and the Keynote Recognition exercises, and I'm looking forward to seeing improvement in Vol 2.

May change the way you think. Review Date: 2005-07-30
This is a wonderful, witty, warm-hearted memoir of Patricia Arnold's life, a lady who seems to move house on a regular basis: hey, we all have our hobbies. ;-) It is also an introduction to the concept of karma and forgiving ourselves and others for our trespasses - sound familiar?
Wondering where all the drama in her life has come from made her start asking deeper questions, and looking to the spiritual side of things. I find in this book a more open look at Christianity than I'm used to seeing, and a very important distinction: being christ-like is not the same as being Christian. I would have bought it for this insight alone.
I was already aware of many of the concepts in the book, but some were new to me, and the best part of it is that they are presented as a tale with humor and humanity, not in dry text-book fashion. The author states up-front that she's not expecting to convert you to anything; she's just relating her own experiences in case you can use them. I've already used some of the insights in my own life and found them helpful. You could read this as a feel-good book or as a learn-something book, or both. Or something else. I highly recommend it.
What made me buy this book? It was the introduction, where the author, a journalist at that time, refused an assignment to interview the newly bereaved parents of a little girl. I've always been furious with journalists who poke a microphone at family members who've received the worst possible news, and ask them how they feel. It was such a breath of fresh air to find someone who refused to do it. I'm glad I bought the book, because the rest of it has that same sense of respect and warmth.
