I had the great pleasure of studying Shakespeare at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 1999 where Ellis Jones is Vice Principle. He is a wonderfuly funny and sincere man who has a very positive and real outlook on the Acting industry. His book 'Teach yourself Acting' is a warm and realistic look at what it takes to be an Actor today both in America and in Great Britain. He uses wit and truth to get his point across in a way that leaves you thinking and not scared. He has a great quote " If you want to ba an Actor, don't. If your going to be you will." Thankyou Ellis for this wonderful Addition to my library. Lee Wilkinson

This commentary is a great addition to any collection for the serious student of the Word of God. The insight and understanding that it brings to the events surrounding and even behind the text makes this an invaluable addition to anyone's library of Biblical reference materials.

This is by far the best-written book on this subject I have ever laid eyes on--If anyone can top this, it will be Dr. Gersh in his next book, but I do suspect that work this fine tuned will take many years to out do.

I have been something of a fan of J.M. Barrie for a long time, and I was quite glad when this book fell into my hands. Barrie is mainly remembered today for his wonderful Peter Pan stories, but his literary talents extended far afield. He wrote this play in 1902 as a social commentary. In it, a haughty, Victorian family is presented, with their upstairs/downstairs, ironclad class prejudices, and no one is more of a supporter of this than their butler Crichton. But, when they are all shipwrecked on a desert island, a new social order is born - what was natural in England is unnatural on the island. And, if they should be rescued, what will happen then?
This play makes an absolutely wonderful read. Mr. Barrie included many sidebars and comments that make the play read just as well as a novel. If you are a fan of pre-1914 British literature (as I am), or just like a cracking good read, then I highly recommend that you get this book!

Children on Christmas Eve wrote a note to Santa Claus and built a snowwoman to carry the note to him. The snowwoman rushed to get it to him, but got lost and fell apart. Animals helped put her back together. This is an excellent animal adventure story with color illustrations. Recommended for students from the K through 4th grade.

My son and I loved this book. For people who want something more than
the bland products of children's book publishing in the Corporate
Age---*this is it*. It's a leap into history (London of the
mid-nineteenth century, the Crimean War, the Irish potato
famine---even a glimpse of Florence Nightingale...) through one of the
great kitchens of all time: that of the Reform Club in London. There's
a sumptuous two-page spread of this amazing kitchen, which was full of
Soyer's ideas and inventions, and was something of a tourist attraction
in its time. The illustrations are irresistible in beautifully
detailed and luminous watercolors. And the landscapes---scenes of
London, of Balaclava harbor---and period costumes are just as
gorgeously depicted as the spectacular feasts and banquets! A *must
have* for anyone who loves children's picture books...

An aesthetics of engagement

Berleant explains clearly why conventional aesthetics do not only impede our encounter with the arts, but even more obstruct the aesthetic appreciation of nature. Thus instead of disinterested contemplation Berlant talks about total engagement and a sensory immersion in the natural world. One cannot distance oneself from events such as "the moving mass of a mighty waterfall", "the sight of the boundlessness of the overwhelming tumult of the ocean" and the "walking through the tall grass of a hidden meadow whose tree-defined edges besome the boundaries of the earth". These quotations show that this book is not just worth reading for it's convincing theoretical standpoint, but also for Berleants linguistically powerful and rich descriptions of the aesthetics of nature.

A great read on Modern Africa

In this thorough grand history of Africa since independence every story is told, every nation explained and everything from economics to politics fully laid out. In a region by region view all the great and tragic stories of Africa since 1950 are told, from Idi Amin ot Hastings Banda to Aparthied to the war in Angola and the death of Lumumba. No stone is left unturned. From Nasser to De Klerk to the Biafran war, to Rwanda and Sudan. This is an eminently fair account, unbiased and accurate, a giant tour of the continent of despair and hope. Although a massive read the author writes with skill and interest, thoroughly researched with obscure primary sources and based on new material available from archives this book is a wonderful account of modern Africa.
For anyone interested in modern African history this is a great book. The only shortcoming is that it does not give much background to the nations it is writing about, it also does not deal as much as it couold have with the importance of tribe in African politics and history, even one map showing the numerous tribes would have been helpful. Nevertheless this is a tour de force, a must read, sure to be the standard account of Africa since independence for some time.

This Book Captivated My 20-Month Old!

When my son started to show an interest in animals, I went out and got this book. It was the first time in his 20 months on earth, that he sat down and paid attention to an entire book without trying to tear the pages, or without just simply finding something else to do. After I finished reading the book to him, and showing him the fantastic, real-life pictures, he was still sitting there waiting for me to turn the page to another picture of an animal. While my 20-month old enjoyed the real-life pictures, my 3 and-a-half year old enjoyed the reading, also. The author's words are informative, but not too deep or complicated. After checking this book out from the library, I had to go out and purchase it because I knew it was a must-have in my home, and my son would have missed the book terribly if I had returned it to the library and not brought it back home.

I recommend that this book be again put in print and distributed to every school in the US to teach young people to what extent Americans (& most of them were Scotch-Irish) at the time were willing to go to gain their independence. Only 25 out of the 68 in Henry's company survived.
All the trendy modern issues pale into insignificance by comparison.
