The PC Starter Book is an ideal training guide for casual and novice personal computer users. Author Arnold Mentz writes in a witty, conversational style, using many illustrations, to easily guide the complete beginner through all of the fundamentals of the computer, learning useful skills along the way that will prove essential in all of his or her computer endeavors. The PC Starter Book is particularly recommended for adults who are late in coming to the computer (especially grandparents!) but want to take advantage of the wealth of information, access, and communications that the computer has to offer them personally and professionally.

This easy to read, plain English, well illustrated guide is a good basic reference for the beginner or a handy refresher for someone who has taken "a computer course" and now needs to have a few procedures clarified.

I teach a seniors "Intro to Computing" class and of all the reference materials I make available, this title is used the most often. My students loved the conversational writing style and the easy-to-understand format.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is thinking of buying a basic reference for computing.

Peak Vitality is a virtual treasure trove of the latest thoughts and ideas from some of the great movers and shakers of our time. It gives you wonderful insights on what's happening right now in the field of well being and what you can do to participate. Chapters 4 and 11, which talk about Somatics and Energy Medicine, are particularly interesting. Having had the good fortune to personally experience the benefits that Servaas Mes and Beverly Davies-Mes write about is mighty amazing. Jean House brings it all together. Her concept keeps each chapter fresh leading you on to see what the next author has to say. The links in the chapters make it easy to find out more, which I really like. This book got me motivated; it expanded my mind and helped me explore the possibilities of living the best life imaginable. I recommend it highly.

This book is powerful. I found Peak Vitality (published by Elite Books) to be a wonderful collection of essays about well being and peak performance. With short chapters just 5 to 15 pages long, the information is easy to digest and implement in your life. Equally impressive is the list of collaborating authors including Drs. Mehmet Oz, Deepak Chopra, John Gray,as well as Eckhart Tolle and Prince Charles. I found several chapters to be full of helpful, practical advice that was quite easy to implement into my daily life. I especially enjoyed Gary Craig's EFT Chapter, Stephen Lewis' discussion of the AIM Program and Dawson Church's insights into how our genes are impacted by our thoughts. There is so much new information in this book which has been expertly edited by Jeanne House. I highly recommend it.

Great book, awesome paintings

First of all, thanks to Amazon for an excellent service.. I live in Ecuador (South America) and don't have too much chances to get good contemporary art books. This book gives the opportunity to see many of Doig's first works and the recent ones. The buyer won't feel dissapointed. You can get to see the images on a good size, the color reproduction is acceptable. Doig's paintings does not only show a lot of his imagination but also an awesome technique. It is not boring at all to contemplate the million details he makes all over the canvas. Great use of the palette. Excellent resource for painters esentially because in this type of work you get to understand that you have to get over your fears or to make mistakes. Doig's paintings give you a real sense of freedom and the love of the artist for his job.

To Amazon: I gave you my whole trust and you made a perfect job. Congratulations

A must have for an contemporary art student

This series is very nice, and reminiscent of great children's book characters. The cards are made from medium thickness but quality paper with a high gloss finish on the picture-side. The inside is not glossy, which is my favorite since I like to write with ink and cannot when there's any sheen at all. They are somewhat small and suitable for little notes or thank-yous, etc. The envelopes are average quality but with adequate glue for closure. Overall very good; I will definitely order others in the series.

These little notecards have come in so handy as thank-you card and friendship notes. Anyone who loves the Frog and Toad ( and even hose that don't) can relatet to to the simple harmony of friendship displayed on the cards. Having them with a book makes these cards a favoite with teachers or any reader.

Time for a revised edtion from an enterprising publisher

May I briefly urge music lovers to search out this book about Malcolm Arnold. The author, Piers Burton-Page, reminds us that as a player Arnold was Britain's finest young trumpeter. He then developed rapidly as a composer, reaching his widest audiences with many film scores (The Bridge on the River Kwai, Hobson's Choice, and Whistle down the Wind are among the favourites) and brilliant orchestral works.

Burton-Page paints a fascinating portrait of a composer who has worked in many fields, and whose complex personality gives his music a depth and range which are only hinted at in some of his more popular works.

Why is this valuable book no longer available? In late 2001, just when many concerts around the world are celebrating Arnold's 80th birthday, it seems perverse that the book is no longer in print. There must be some enterprising publisher out there who should seize the moment. Get the authoritative Piers Burton-Page to revise the book and bring it up to date. Burton-Page charts the extraordinary ups and downs of a leading musican's life with affection and honesty. Now let's have the revised edition.

The best and only biography of British composer Malcolm Arno

I am biased of course! But I spent 10 years on and off writing about the life and music of Sir Malcolm Arnold - now 75 - and it was a labour of love. He is severely ill with a form of brain damage that has impaired his memory: even so, it was wonderful how he was able to recall incidents from his earliest years in remarkable detail. He was able to help me enormously with the events of his later life too. All this started with a love of his music, and I hope this is reflected in my biography, too. What a shame it is already out of print. Come on some of you publishers out there, how about asking me for an update, and then reprinting

Excellent Introduction to Philosophy Text

If you teach Introduction to Philosophy using a historical approach, this is the text I recommend. I used "The Philosophic Classics 2nd edition, From Plato to Nietzsche" for my classes and was looking for a text with the same basic works with some more contemporary materials. I find the updated 3rd edition, "From Plato to Derrida" the perfect solution. Instead of having to look through more textbooks for the right stuff, this is it.

Excellent and Easy to Read

This book does an excellent job of giving not just the basics of what we know about human hearts, but also of telling the reader why we know what we know. I'm more interested in crocodilian than mammalian hearts, and this book usually provides enough detail to know if the concept being described is about vertebrates, mammals, or just about humans.

I think this book has a lot to offer for people with widely different levels of expertise; it starts from a pretty basic level (assuming you have a solid grasp of general physiology but no expertise) and integrates a lot of information from very different fields and approaches. So if you know one slice of cardiac physiology very well, this book should still be able to help you fit that knowledge into a broader context.

I loved the way Nat Fleisher and the other co-authors authored the book in chronological fashion. I have the 1995 edition with Joe Louis pictured on the back. It shows the history and origins of the sport and does a good job of covering all divisions in boxing up to 1995 I think. I think I have the Fifth Edition of this book.

This is the classic, complete history of boxing for those looking for that and not merely for records. Great photos, oither illustrations, and narratives as well as thorough coverage of the divisions will have you spend lots of time with the book and return to it time and again. I swa this first inf 1965, when I was just 14.5 years old and a fan. I made my father purchase it (for $6.95!) as my Three Kings Day's gift (January 6, the feast of the Epiphany, was for Spanish speaking countries the major Christmas, gift-giving holiday). I have purchased a couple of new editions lthrough the years, and it has never lost the original's flavour. A must read and posses book for boxing fans. Enrique Bird, San Juan, Puerto Ric

In Pine Tree Quilts: Perfect Patchwork Piecing, needlecrafter Lois Arnold presents the variety and utility of Pine Tree blocks in quilt making. She offers step-by-step illustrated instructions for more than a dozen projects, some of them are fast and simple, others offer "masterpiece quality" quilting. Highly recommended for novice and practicing quilters, the informative, "user friendly" text is enhanced with a colorful gallery of quilts, fabric requirements, helpful tips, and grid charts.

If you have ever been fascinated by this traditional pattern, you must have this book for your library. You will get your money's worth and then some. Before she ever gets to the 15 projects and their step-by-step instructions, Lois gives a history of the block, shows 48 different variations, and provides basics instructions for hand or strip piecing, appliqué or foundation. There is also a Gallery of quilts, both old and new, providing additional inspiration. Finally, on page 43, we start the projects designed for the book. They range from the simple paper pieced tree made with long strips for each layer of branches to the eye-popping pieced tree with more than 40 triangles. Each pattern is clearly explained with excellent graphics and written instructions. Many of the projects are small, allowing you to try different trees without making a lifetime commitment.

An extra bonus is the gorgeous quilting design that goes with Pine Star wallhanging, a classical beautiful combination of leaves, cones and swirls. It would make an equally impressive appliquéd border design.

This book, only the third written about aviation in Pennsylvania, is a splendid coffe table history. Contained in it are many pages and illustrations concerning the All American Aviation air-mail pick up routes from 1939-1949, numerous news clippings concerning the history of early aviation in Pennsylvania, form C.P. Mayer's commercial airfield in Bridgeville, to Cliff Ball's Bettis Field. There is also a chapter, together with photos, about the founding of the OX-5 Club, now an international organization, at Latrobe, Pennsylvania, in 1956. Featured in the books are Charles Carroll, Raymond Elder, Carl Strickler, Lou Strickler, Russ Brinkley, Lloyd Santmeyer, Elmer Ashbaugh, Clyde Hauger, and other prominent pioneers of aviation.

A great oral history, with lots of pictures

This is a great coffee table book for all of those interested in the history of flight or the history or Western Pennsylvania. I helped to transcribe a lot of the tapes of interviews for this book and these guys love to tell stories about their early days in the airfields.
