This is a gem that went out of print. It's my absolute favorite self help book. Its an easy read and impossible to not provide any reader some true insights. By any measure its great. That is when compared to most psych books its better and cheaper. When compared to therapy, at a cost of five minutes with a shrink this will give you more knowledge than five years of psych-talk. And even when compared with the cost of Zoloft its a steal. No kidding, its the only thing costing under $50.00 that ever even began to change my life. I love this book! If you can't afford it get it from the library...or get a job and buy it.

Life changing, myth changing

Most of us have a life filled with myths (e.g. its important to be right, other people are happy, don't hide your anger). This book takes on some of the most common myths...and provides another way to look at them. Its written by two of the most famous living therapists... a psychologist and psychiatrist who are both masters. Its easy to read and truly life changing. There aren't many books I can say that about. The book was a best seller in an earlier edition (in the 1980s) and went out of print. I assume this new publisher bought the rights. I'm really happy its back in print. Its a classic. This has long been one of my favorite books. Do not miss it!

Can you imagine a book that can change your emotion with every poem that you read? Well, with I AM THE DARKER BROTHER that is what happens. First, you can be reading a poem that makes you happy then you are reading one that makes you sad. Or a poem that is calm and then an intense one. Also in this book there is a poet that writes a poem in a poem, I will tell you about that later. But if you like poetry this is a perfect book for you.

One of the poems that I really liked was "JACKET NOTES" by Ishmael Reed. I liked this one a lot because Ishmael made me really think about this poem. The thing that it made me really think about was what does the barrel symbolize. He talks about it falling over a water fall. Then at the end of the poem he says, "What really hurt is that you're bigger then the barrel." I thought that the barrel symbolizes a prison and the black man is bigger than it but can not get out if the barrel--the prison. I'll let you read it and try and figure it out for yourself.

Another poem that I liked was "A MOMENT PLEASE" by Samuel Allen. This poem confused me because I did not understand the poem. But even if it confused me for some reason I still like it. That was because there were two poems in one. One poem you had to read every third line. The poem that is italic talks about the earth. The second poem talks about a guy just walking and people asking him if he is Arabian or not.

Makes you proud to be a minority!

I loved this book, it made me proud to be an African American. It makes you realize that the things you see on TV and the news are covering up the talent and greatness of African Americans. There are poems by various poets, all of them are great!

This is a wakeup call for America

Reading this book reaffirms what I already feel in the pit of my stomach. America is in deep trouble. It takes no rocket scientist to appreciate that our borders are vulnerable. The Feds are unable to fulfill their primary responsibility under our Constitution. Everyday we hear through the media that our nation is going to get whacked and it is just a matter of time. Why? Ted Flynn asserts that America is not what it appears to be in the eyes of God. He does an excellent job in weaving, biblical scripture, historical facts and figures, subject matter expert (world renowned) analyses and church approved prophecies regarding the state of our nation, the church and its clergy, our families and ourselves. He apparently utilized material previously published in his last book "Hope of the Wicked" to augment his philosophical arguments that Americaýs downfall is being engineered by globalists and other traitors who want to destroy our Constitution and usher in a New World Order. The review on the breakdown of the family, drugs and alcohol, internet and pornography alone are rather convincing. The book is relatively brief yet voluminous in knowledge. It is a real eye opener. The chapter titles and their sub-headings are rather instructive. Each one represents a theme or anecdote which the author presents effectively within the chapter. They sum up well the authorýs sentiment. The book pulls no punches. The world stage is being prepared for one hellacious dogfight. One will either be severely alarmed by all this or will ýdishý it entirely. If you got the guts to read this book to its end, you will realize that Ted Flynn is the fireman ringing the alarm. He is a modern day prophet. But will anyone listen? Will anyone act?

Loved it and have sent it as a present to all my friends.

THIS BOOK IS HYSTERICAL. BIG LAUGHS. IT TELLS THE TRUTH ABOUT THE SOUTH, AND SOUTHERNERS, FROM A YANKEE POINT OF VIEW. IT'S DONE TONGUE IN CHEEK BUT ALL OF THE INCIDENTS AND EXAMPLES OF SOUTHERN BEHAVIOR ARE TRUE.

THIS SHOULD BE REQUIRED READING FOR EVERY HUMAN BEING ABOVE THE MASON DIXON LINE. DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT VISITING OR DRIVING THROUGH THE SOUTH WITHOUT READING THE BOOK.

MAKES A GREAT GIFT.

I've been teaching English (EFL)in Brazil for the last twenty years and the Intermediate Grammar by Susan Kesner Bland, together with its Teacher's Book by Ellen Balleisen makes my favourite set of grammar books: I ALWAYS recommend them to my colleagues and students.
It's a shame they have become so difficult to find. I assume they are not being published anymore.

This book is excruciatingly effective!

I am a graduate student at Harvard University, and last year I undertook a research project on the effects of written(as opposed to spoken and aural) teaching methods of English as a Second Language. I found Ms. Bland's textbook to be one of the primary examples of a well-written, cohesive, effective textbook. I don't really know how one goes about reviewing a textbook, so please do not consider this to be so much a subjective analysis as a large thank-you to Ms. Bland and as a call to all teachers and students of English looking for a fabulous text upon which to base study.

This book really is for the true beginner in international taxation. If you are a professional, it is probably not the source you are looking for. However, for a person who does not have knowledge in this field or has never practiced, I think it will be a brilliant book to read.

The book in itself is very well structured and very clearly written. I use it a primer for my young associates when they join my firm and have been very pleased with what they learn from it. Once they have read and "metabolized" this book, they are ready to get started, and as far as I know, there is no other work to pick up where this primer leaves the subject.

In other words, this is "only" a primer, but as far as primers go, it is a brilliant one. Buy it if you are a beginner or if you have lots of beginners in your firm.

Truly a good primer

This is the only book I found that actually explained everything in its table of contents in a way that I could understand. This is an excellent book for a total beginner just trying to understand the basic issues of thin capitalization rules, deductions vs. exemptions vs. credits, double taxation, tax sparing, tax havens, etcetera.

Excellent lab manual for aerial photo-interpretation

Sometimes it gets a little too detailed (like mentioning the brand of pens commonly used) and the book would be easier to manage if the photos and plates were all in a separate binding (so you can read the text and look at the photos). Some computer based exercises would be good to see what direction the science is moving in. But all in all, a good introduction to aerial photograph interpretation.

If you are interested in this book, please purchase the 2nd printing of the 1st edition. The quality of paper used for the black & white photos is much better than was the case in the initial printing.
The paper used for the 12 color plates was very good in both the 1st and 2nd printings. I believe the book would have sold many more copies had the paper quality been addressed properly from the outset.

A must-read for anyone involved in psychotherapy
Helpful Votes: 11 out of 12 total.
Review Date: 1997-08-25
In this brilliant, exhaustive, scholarly work, Dr. Susan Baur thoroughly examines the roles that love and sex have played in the psychotherapeutic relationship. While making it clear that sex has no place in psychotherapy, she takes us on a fascinating journey through history up to the present, so-called feminization of psychotherapy. She shows us, compassionately and sensitively, that this delicate topic is not as clear-cut as most people like to believe. Dr. Baur poses the question of what direction we, as a society, will steer the process of psychotherapy, considering the issues of managed care and the trend toward shorter-term therapy. Impressed by Dr. Baur's indefatigable research, this insightful and compelling book has broadened my perspective regarding psychotherapy and how the ingredients of love, intimacy, and human nature all shape the process. A courageous undertaking of a most controversial topic.

Where People Who Pretend to be Angels Fear to Tread

Review Date: 1997-11-01
Any therapist who has suffered through the often-energetic efforts at seduction some patients carry out (often for months), and through (as well) his (or her) own desires for those he (or she) would find appealing if met outside therapy, knows that the politically-correct story of sex in psychotherapy cannot be the whole story. People meet wherever they meet, and people fall in love or just have sex for all sorts of good and bad reasons, and both therapist and patient are people. While insisting on the incompatibility of sex and therapy, Dr. Baur explores this difficult area honestly, fully, and with a wise, open eye to the full human dimensions of the problem. Not the least appalling dimension of the problem is the profession's unwillingness to treat the subject honestly and help its members, its customers, and the public deal intelligently with the realities of the sexuality of both patient and therapist. Dr. Baur's book is the first great step toward telling the truth and remedying that problem. Eas

Get a copy of this book if you really want to understand cardiovascular physiology or if you just have the sligthest interest in this subject! If just Levick would write a textbook covering the entire physiologic curriculum...... The book is very thorough but excitingly interesting:-) The essentials of the Frank-Starling mechanism is summarised through a 4-verse rhyme!

Pros:
-This book covers the core essentials as well as details you will not find in your ordinary textbook.
-This book has a incredibly easy to understand and exciding chapter regarding ECG.
-Levick writes in a keep it simple stupid kind of way.
-It has the right figures (read 2nd ed.)
-It integrates and summarises histology as well as physics in a "ohh, thats why I have to know this" way.

Cons:
-You will have to buy a textbook og physiology beside this.
-If you just want to pass your exam and do not have interest in this subject you will probably be better of with your ordinary textbook.

All in all. Buy this book or somehow get the chapters covering the essential CV-physiology. They are better than Rhoades & Tanner, Ganong.
