I have finished reading Anthony Parnell's new book, "The 7 Laws of Stress Management," and I am so excited about it that I would love to train to present a stress management workshop using the book! "The 7 Laws of Stress Management" is definitely a guide for those of us who want and need to eliminate life's stressors. It is absolutely a must-read for many. There is SO MUCH in Parnell's guide for beginning to live mentally, physically and emotionally healthy that I will revisit this manual whenever I am overwhelmed by life's stressors.

The ABCs of Mutual Funds explains precisely how mutual funds, contractual plans, hedge funds, exchange traded funds, folios, unit investment trusts, and variable annuities work, as well as the differences between full service and discount dealers, the legal obligations of stockbrokers, and much more. An absolute "must-read" for anyone new to the investment industry, in an era when so called "free" seminars are really just padded commercials with the objective of soliciting securities sales. Recommended investment guidelines and selection criteria ensure that The ABCs of Mutual Funds pays for itself, as its tips, tricks, and techniques for avoiding costly mistakes are worth their weight in green.

After reading and being dissappointed by the other two books on accelerated stress testing (Hobbs and McLean), it was very refreshing to read this one. It is objective and very helpful. It gives a great introduction to the principles of AST. It goes on to give very specific recommendations about the steps in process and key details about different factors involved in performing the testing and subsequent analysis.

Unlike the others, the reader doesn't feel like he is watching an infomercial, full of lofty claims with few hard facts to back them up. This book delivers on the details and leaves the conclusions to the reader.

It is a bit dry and long, more like a textbook than the others, but in a positive way.

If you are an engineer trying to sell management on the technology, give them Hobb's book. If you want to learn about AST, buy this one.

My 8.5 years old son loves all "Jennings" books. I give them to him one by one as a reward, and he is happy to talk about these books to everyone in his school. Being born in US, he appreciates British humour. It all started with him listening to the BBC radio program "Jennings goes to school". He asked for that book, and he keeps asking for "more Jennings". Just a note to other parents: I don't know about the 'level' of the book, probably it is for the 5th grade (according to the usual standard), and kids will ask you about the meaning of some words, still for an avid reader it is not that difficult.

I find this book very interesting about accounting theory and principles. He base his structure about a revenus-expenses method, instead of the usual assets-liabilieties approach. Furthermore, the Author develops his structure starting from some declared principles, instead of implicit or misunderstood assumptions or preconceptions. He derives some operational concepts starting from these principles. His assumption about satisfying principle is most insteresting. The Author considers this satisfying principle as opposed to the maximisation principle as firm's objective. See also an article in Harvard Business Review, 1960. A book to buy, to study hard and to remember.

This book should be back in print.

I used it prior to an MBA course and I could have passed the Core Financial Analysis class on day one.

UK-centric though!!

I had done a beginners course on accounts before and left that course more confused about the subject than before. I was still confused about debit and credit, double-entries etc. I found this book and it solved my problems. This book will help you as well. It is very clear. It is very structured. Each sentence makes sense. The book is a delight to read (if the term can be used in conjunction with accounts) and I can recommend it without reservations.

Books with show business interviews are usually a waste of time in my opinion. But "Actors on Red Alert" by noted film historian Anthony Slide arrives as a welcome exception, not only due to the obvious intelligence and forthrightness of the five subjects but also because of Mr. Slide's perceptive questioning. All five -- Phil Brown, Rose Hobart, Marsha Hunt, Marc Lawrence and Doris Nolan -- were to various degrees affected by the notorious Hollywood witch hunt of the late 1940s. One -- Lawrence -- became an informer, in fact, and "named names," a treachery the man apparently has a tough time dealing with to this very day. Surprisingly, Lawrence blames the blacklist not on the rightwing politicians of the day but on the Communist Party itself! The remaining four interview subjects -- two of whom were longtime close friends of Mr. Slide -- offer a more balanced view of the tragedy. None, however, is boring and neither is Mr. Slide's wonderful book. In fact, all too little have been written about Doris Nolan, an actress rather better known for her stage work than her few film appearances. But Miss Nolan proves perhaps the most interesting subject for Mr. Slide's probing questions. Sadly, the actress passed away prior to the publishing of "Actors on Red Alert," and the book shall stand as a testament to an unjustly forgotten personality.
