This book contains 50 solos that each work a different aspect of playing. One must pay special attention to note length and placement. It works timing and different feels of classical music. This pieces are meant to be played as orchestral pieces, not marching. Make sure all rolls are buzz and pay attention to if they are tied to a downbeat or not. It is an excellent book to work on every aspect of snare playing. Try to play the pieces for someone with musical knowledge so they can tell you if your interpretation of the solos are correct.

Any percussionist looking to improve their sight reading skills should own this book. The notation is clear and printed nicely, the paper is of a high quality overall a wonderful method book. There some challenging parts of course but thats to be expected with a Cirone book. Portraits in Rhythm should be in any serious drummers inventory.Larry Salzman [...]

Robbins has done it again. The Power Talk series is well known for providing interesting insights by top authorities. Dr. Gray is well known for his unique perspectives on relationships. The combination is electric. This is three hours of pure insight into how men and women relate, and how to make the relationships you have into the relationships you want. As if that wasn't enough, these guys are hilarious. You will enjoy this tape, and you will learn from it. Buy it!

On Creating Extraordinary Relationships is a 3 hour tape series on how to make relationships work better through better communication, understanding and listening. The tapes talk about some basic differences between men and women and what to do about it. I had a lot of fun listening to it with my then girlfriend (now my wife!). We were laughing so hard because it was so funny yet so true! After listening to the tape we learned so much more about ourselves and each other. What makes it very valuable is Tony Robbins and John Gray cite so many examples and situations in our everyday life where conflicts arise and give practical insightful tips on how to improve the situation. Some of the words used also act as positive trigger devices that just by mention of the words during more challenging situations it makes the moment lighter. I love this so much I have to date bought 22 sets of this to give to friends! This is something I recommend highly!

As soon as I identified the authors name, to whom I read one book, I picked up the book which upon examination proved to be a compendium on prayer, the core of eastern Christian spirituality. In his second volume on Eastern Christian spirituality, he explores in depth the final two chapters of his earlier book; 'The Spirituality of the Christian East: A Systematic Handbook.' Fr. Špidlík follows John Cassian's methodology, in writing his Conferences, while he surveys in a systematic western style themes of eastern orthodoxy, tracing their history, with prayer as its exclusive theme. He shares and exposes the teachings of many generations of eastern monastics through their spiritual writings, but he does not advocate a particular pattern of prayer.
In nine chapters and a conclusive summary, in which he underlines theological and liturgical issues, and methods of prayer, stressing the unceasing instruction. He stresses contemplation pre-eminence, and how God's rememberance was in the thought of Basil, concluding with John of Kronstadt that, 'Prayer is therefore the life of the Spirit.'


Fr. TomᚠŠpidlík is one of the greatest experts on the spirituality of eastern Christianity today, and has been a professor of patristic and eastern spiritual theology at various universities across the Atlantic. Lately, he was elevated cardinal by Pope John Paul II.

The author, Mr. Spidlik, deserves admiration and praise for his great knowledge and for his most apparent devotion to bring the depth of Christian tradition to modern readers. Who could not profit from a contemplative reading of this author? Most will undoubtedly discover fresh perspectives and approaches to a prayerful life. The devoted Christian can not live without prayer. The reading of this volume is an apprenticeship in holy methods of the ages. Drinking From The Hidden Fountain: A Patristic Breviary is also by Tomas Spidlik and highly recommended.

I am an Army wife & I was moved to tears while reading this book. There is a lot of heart for such a small book. This book will fit in any soldier's pocket. If you have a loved one stationed overseas, they will receive encouragement and support through the pages of this book. Prayers will inspire our troops to stand strong when our enemies try to defeat them. I also loved the fact that there wasn't anything political attached to this book. God bless America.

This book is an excellent comfort for today. These prayers are from the heart, they enable you to make it through another day. This book is for the military personnel as well as the family members. Every soldier, spouse, parent, brother and sister should have this book to pray for our nation and those that defend it.

This is a wonderful way to study Benedict's Rule and learn to apply it to today's modern and complex lifestyle. Ms. Vest is able to look beyond the ancient text and pull forth the wisdom of Benedict, making it alive and vital for today's Christian. A definite read for the person interested in achieving a balanced and Christian life.

Though targeted for an audience of Benedictine oblates, or lay associates of Benedictine monasteries, _Preferring Christ_ will find a welcome among any serious seeker on the spiritual journey.

As former student of the author, I can say that Dr. Nownes knows his stuff. His classes were always fun, but I left knowing a lot more than I went in with. His book, "Pressure and Power" is an excellent source for info on organized interests. Nownes has written extensive amounts on this subject in the past, and continues to be an expert in the field.

Nownes' book on organized interests in american politics is quite simply the best in the field. He covers the standard subjects (the influence of groups in Congress, the bureaucracy, origins and maintenance of groups, etc.). In addition, however, he discusses the impact of organized interests in state and local government. Surely this is an important area of american politics that is too often ignored by scholars of interest groups. His focus on organized interests instead of interest groups is also worth considering.

His writing is always clear and often witty. He has made a number of difficult subjects easy. His discussion of the "seamjob" on page 115 is a great example. Until reading this book, I thought a "seamjob" was the same as "demosclorosis." Now I know differently.

This work by Anthony Selvaggio solidly hits the mark of providing an accessible, thought-provoking overview of the Minor Prophets. The author clearly has done the scholarly homework for the layman, yet even scholars should find his insight valuable.

Without getting bogged down in literary and textual concerns, yet demonstrating his comprehension of the issues, Selvaggio stays on point following his principle objective -- to discover the Messiah in these wonderful and often-overlooked books of the prophets. Laymen (and many pastors) often look at this portion of the Bible with a sense of bewilderment. This book equips the student with a Christ-centered focus while avoiding the temptation to get distracted with some of the strange, often errant typology and speculative, futuristic fantasies.

I have read and enjoyed many great works on the Minor Prophets through the years. The next time someone asks me how to get a handle on what the Minor Prophets are about, this is the book I will recommend first.

What's more perfect that a cute little puppy licking your nose to show you that he loves you? When Nancy finally gets the dog she's been begging her Dad for, everyone is happy -- at least for a while.

It seems like food has been disappearing, and not just in the Drew household. What's even worse, it seems that the most adorable chocolate-colored puppy in the world is going to be held responsible. Unless, of course, Nancy Drew can get on the case and save her beloved pup!

This book is a solid winner with young female readers.

My 7 year old daughter (just finished 2nd grade) loves this series. She has read almost all of them (including the newer "Clue Crew" editions) this summer. We don't know what we'll do for an encore when she's finished, as the regular Nancy Drew books are still a little long/ intimidating for her (each of these is only about 70 pages). She likes solving the mysteries, but also loves having the familiar characters in every book. We highly recommend them, and will give them as gifts to her friends in the near future.

Orison Swett Marden was the original editor-in-chief of the now defunct "Success" magazine. In fact, he probably rolled over in his grave when the magazine went out of publication. It was a time of mourning for me. In fact, I was just in the process of renewing my subscription when I found out..."Success" was no longer successful (how ironic).
This set of books is excellent. Most of the writing is examples of successful people from the past and present (1911). This type of motivational writing tends to get repetitive, however, there is a lot of advise tucked carefully between the many examples given. It was a very different world when the author wrote this book, but as I read it I noticed, the more things change, the more they stay the same. One difference I like is the chivalry and honesty exhibited from the time period. Even the highest standards of decency today are a far cry from that time. It was a lot of fun reading some of the examples from that era and knowing they were current events. These books are well worth the read, if you can find them.

This book is the greatest book that I have ever read next to the Bible. It is in my opinion the premiere self help of all times. After reading this book your life will never be the same. Marden is able to capture the essence of life, self development and true success. If you have read other self help books you will see how many modern day writers, used much of his material to develop their thoughts and philosophy.

Although this book was written in the early 20th century, its message is truly timeless.
