An Excellent Piece of American History

In a very straightforward fashion, my uncle tells his story of Bataan and of being a POW. It is a very moving piece of history which should never be forgotten. I strongly urge anybody who has even a passing interest of the Second World War to read this work.

This is an excellent book about a survivor of the March

I have found this book to be very interesting and to the point about a mostly unknown tragedy of world war II. Mr. Czerwien gives an indepth look at mans inhumanity to man. Not only about the death march but about the ship that took him to Japan, that in my opinion was worse than the march itself. To survive this ordeal is in itself a miracle. I highly recommend this book to anyone that seeks the truth, from a man who was there.

A graphic and disturbing account of the Death March

I teach in a district in suburban Chicago (Maywood) that saw many of its young men go off to the Philippines in the early days of WWII when a local National Guard Unit was sent there (Co. B, 192nd Tnk Bn). Needless to say, after the combat, death march, hell ships, etc. most did not return. Our community was devestated, and they remember Bataan still. I am currently doing a research project with some of my students at Proviso East High School and have done alot of reading on the subject. Mr. Czerwein's books is one of the very best in the whole genre. Its a quick, yet graphic and disturbing read. Another good book is My Hitch in Hell by Lester Tenney, who was a member of the Maywood unit. I met Mr. Czerwien, and Mr. Tenney, a few weeks ago at a Bataan event here at the high school. He is still going strong and told me he is now writing his 3rd book. God Bless Him.

Before this information, I was little aware at best that my brain was constantly referring to past experience, to try and help me perceive the present, nor did I understand how poor references made for poor outcomes. A must for those interested in self-awareness.

I never realized how I referred to past experiences to respond to life now. Tony helps you see that, and motivates you to change your view.

A great book. I enjoyed it.

Marrianne Williamson's work is both real and honest. Rather than couch things in a concepts that are alien or extremely religious, she talks to you about the realities of existing. Of how things will not always be easy, about how you will lose your way, and honestly how to see people clearly. Growth is messy, it's not neat, maturity is not easy, nor is spirtiuality delicate work, but with assistance from a tape like this you can see yourself clearly and how to bridge yourself from concept to human to spiritual being.

This was my first Anthony Robbins cassette, and I really enjoyed it. I am looking foward to all his others. A lot of 'get rich, be smart, etc' motivators lack belivablity and energy. Tony certainly doesn't. Great for mom's who need a little encouragement. Great for everyone. And the interview with Covey is just excellent!

I really enjoyed this power talk tape program with Anthony Robbins. On tape 1, Robbins outlines and elaborates on his proven technology for creating and implementing behavorial and emotional change. Robbins explains techniques that break the patterns that are holding you back, and redirect your future toward greater success.

Tape 2 has Tony Robbins interviewing best selling author and entrepreneur Mark McCormack in a power packed session discussing a variety of subjects that develop the success attitude.

The program also includes a book summary of Dr. Wayne Dyers "You'll See it When You Believe It." An excellent book that I bought and read.

Use the 6 master steps to change that Robbins offers here and create a new and better life. By far this is Robbins bst powertalk program.

The introduction speaks for itself. I would urge the reader to spend a worthwhile 5 minutes to read it (the introduction), which will give the distilled essence of the book's main purpose. This book, prayerfully read, will help to develop your personal prayer life. The prayers are paraphrases of Scripture, Charles Spurgeon and many other well known men of God from history past to present. It can change the way you pray, and develop a love for the Word at the same time. I heartily recommend it!

I'm reviewing this book about a year after reading it, but don't worry, I remember it very well. I still glance through the pages to read parts, because they're so good. Of the three books, the latest, Mercy of the Sword Saint, is the best, and the first, Origin of the Sword Saint, is a good read, but it's hard to enjoy because of the large amount of typos. But Quest of the Sword Saint is a masterpiece in it's own right. While it's perhaps not as mature as Mercy, it has a continuity and artistic genius that ties the whole piece together extraordinarily well. Origin of the Sword Saint feels more like a drawn out writing excersize: Quest is the real deal, a matured and talented writer exploring his abilities. The action of the novel is gripping, and the characters are brought to life with in-depth character psychology, allowing the reader to experience different view points and come to sympathize with the characters. Really, really, really great book, and if you read it, you won't be disappointed. Especially fans of series like Dungeons and Dragons, Dragonlance and Greyhawk will love this series. I loved it, and so will any fantasy enthusiast, or lover of literature in general. Buy!!!!!

For anyone like me who grew up in New Jersey, this book will touch special buttons that many readers elsewhere won't feel as deeply. Yet to truly understand what life was like in this part of the country during a particular time period, no one should fail to read this book -- for it captures a sense of then and now like few other books on New Jersey can, dealing with the minute details most writers miss, playfully mocking the silly routines our generation adopted, painfully expressing the great sadness for an innocence lost.
As a journalist covering people and events in New Jersey, I have written about the outside of such events, Buccino gets inside of them and makes the reader relive those moments through his senses and memory.

I was born and raised in belleville. Anthony was able to capture the essence of a belleville childhood in the 1960's and teen years of the early 70's. Times were spent with family and your best friends. There was "nothing like" a saturday football game. I would recommend this book to all belleville high school graduates.... it made me smile..

As an avid reader and writer of nonfiction, I know what I like. I can tell from the first page whether it's a go or a throw-down.
Believe me, RAMBLING ROUND is a go-go-go! Remember the old review cliche: "I couldn't put the book down"? You'll find that happens when you begin reading RAMBLING AROUND. True-life experiences from the everyday rountine to serious matters like marriage and raising a daughter will put you in stitches and keep you there till you begin the next story. The book is a continous joyride you'll find yourself recommending to everybody in need of lots of good laughs and brilliant insights. I cannot say enough in praise of Buccino's new book!

This book was extremely helpful for preparing for the NBME gross anatomy shelf exam. It has standard outlines of stuff you need to know and lots of pertinent clinical situations too.

I also have a recent past edition of BRS gross, and this book was far better. There are two practice exams at the end of the book with organized, detailed explanations, and the questions were very similar to those on the shelf exam. This book also uses pink ink to enhance the text, which is written in black. I would definitely recommend this book as a comprehensive review source.

Outstanding review for Gross Shelf Exam

In preparing for the gross NBME shelf exam I used this text and went all the way through it in 3 days. The NBME mainly tests the important concepts with emphasis on the clinical correlations, which this book emphasizes. I was surprised that there were very few questions on the exam that I thought were outside the realm of what I prepared for (something I can't say for the previous NBME's I've taken: phys/histology/biochem).

My approach that worked well: Pick a region (i.e. thorax) go page by page through an atlas and refresh your memory on the relationships. Then read the chapter in your review book. I also read through all the netter clinical pearls in the hours before the exam.

Great review book to accompany Netter.

I have looked at both BRS Gross Anatomy (Board Review Series) and this book, and I believe that this book, despite being about 200 pages shorter, is the perfect review book to accompany Netter while taking Gross Anatomy as an M1. A lot of people get BRS because it's longer, and they think that this makes it a better companion while you are actually in the class. It is a good book, and you would be fine if you got it, but I decided on this book because:
1) It's written better and more concisely yet still covers nearly all questions on MY exams.
2) It uses few diagrams and uses them only to make essential points clear. And the illustrations are "crammable." My beef with BRS is that it doesn't have that much more information than this book (and what it does have extra is lower yield anyway), but it is filled with muscle tables and crappy illustrations as if it is trying to replace Netter (or any other real atlas) but ends up clouding an otherwise fine review book. (I know Netter doesn't have muscle tables in the book, but it does have them on www.netteranatomy.com )

I have my anatomy text and use it, but to be honest one could probably get by with using only this book, Netter, and lecture and lab.

Sister Gangloff's ability to choose women with a connection to the day from a wide variety of walks of life is an opportunity to allow the reader to expand their hope in life and living as they begin their day.

The reflection questions help you to pause and apply the lessons of the remarkable woman to one's personal life and living.

What a wisdom there is in connecting to others in the present as well as the past who have faced life with grace and courage.

Shortly after Remarkable Women, Remarkable Wisdom was published I was given a copy by a dear friend. I was so impressed with the concept and content that I decided to use it in my classroom. Focusing on a single, outstanding woman each day seemed to be a perfect way to begin all of my classes at an all-girls, senior high school academy. Each day a different student presents our "remarkable woman" to the rest of her class, thus beginning our studies with inspiration for goals we all might strive to achieve. My students have found this opening ritual to be interesting, informative, and, at times, quite surprising. Sister Mary Francis Gangloff writes about these women with compassion and thanksgiving for the gifts they have shared with the world. I applaud her on her own wisdom in bringing their stories to light and sharing them with all of us.

Remarkable!

This truly is a remarkable, wonderful book! Sister Mary Frances Gangloff has collected a treasury of women's stories--from Edith Stein and Georgia O'Keefe to Charlotte Brontë and Susan B. Anthony!--weaving together golden nuggets of their wisdom with Scripture and personal reflections... one for every day of the year! Wow. Her impressive and thorough labor of love is a gift and a blessing to her readers. Don't miss out the opportunity to share this beautiful witness of courage and life with your daughters, your mothers, your friends!

This is a wonderful book. Schwalbe has a clear voice that exposes the full humanity of these men, Reet and Shine, without romanticizing them. It is a powerful look at the socio-historic context of race, class, and gender in the South as experienced by two individuals. This book is strongly recommended.

Sociology professor Michael Schwalbe presents Remembering Reet And Shine: Two Black Men, One Struggle, a double biography of two black men who coped with the societal racism of early twentieth-century America and the pressures of their own families in dramatically different ways, yet both of whom saw their defenses crumble as the became older. Matthew Mason adopted the persona of Dr. Reet, a witty entertainer; while Anthony Atwater became Shine, a street-smart stud and a capital player at both love and violence. Both men would turn to drink to ease their problems, and nearly destroy themselves before finding peace for themselves in old age. A straightforward account that does not herald either man as heroic, but simply offers their profile in an attempt to understand their need to reconcile the demands of being a man with the limitations imposed by social forces.

A gem
