I am in limbo about my condition but I've had lots of illnesses in the past and this is the only the book I have ever found that lets out the frustrations I that I have, especially the ones toward doctors. I thought I was alone and that no one else was ever told that they were "too young" or that the pain was in my head.

This book is amazing. It is for patients, survivors, friends, family members, and anyone that has been told that they were too young for a disease to happen to them.

This great book is not just for Singletons!

As a recently-diagnosed young adult cancer fighter, this was the first book I found that spoke directly to ME and MY AGE GROUP, regardless of type or stage of cancer!

I read the Introduction and Acknowledgments sections TWICE because they immediately made me feel not-so-alone in all of this. Much of what Kairol and her interviewees say throughout the book about their thoughts, feelings, and experiences with living with cancer at this age read as if they were my own! I was truly amazed at how well I related to the genuine people in this book.

The Table of Contents may lead some readers to assume that this book only speaks to the single people among us. But that is not true! Married cancer patients, like myself, can relate just as equally to this book. Chapter 3, which is called "Single," is actually full of valuable tips and suggestions for any intimate relationship, and Kairol refers to marriages quite often throughout.

While I felt I could relate to much of what the people in this book have to say, there is an equal amount of new insight, advice, warnings and even humor that I would have never thought of before!

I STRONGLY recommend this book to anyone in their 20's and 30's fighting cancer! Also, it can be just as helpful for parents, family, spouses, and close friends of such cancer patients.

This is a very well written, informative and comprehensive book for the growing number of young adults affected by cancer and their loved ones. It puts a face on the young adult cancer survivor by telling stories in a conversational way. A great resource! Diana Ulman, co-founder, The Ulman Cancer Fund For Young Adults

I don't have cancer. I wanted to read this book for the friends I have who do. (I watched a good friend diagnosed in her early 20s get confused silence from medical experts who didn't know what to expect for her in 20 years because they weren't used to treating patients who would live that long. There just aren't many models, or much research, for young patients.)

But I was surprised to find how much the book spoke to me and to my own experiences.

I was diagnosed with endometriosis four years ago, so I obsess about research fads regarding food, and I balance chronic pain management, and I've negotiated changes in my relationships with people who can't imagine my experience.

Not only does Everything Changes deal with these issues, it addresses questions that apply to even the healthiest of readers: how do we choose a doctor who's right for us? Which foods are worth buying organic and which ones aren't? Why and how should young people go about making a will or memorial arrangements?

Rosenthal not only gives voice to strong, compelling young people struggling with cancer, she gives great practical tips and resources for patients, their families, lovers, and friends. It's a strong and grippingly honest read both for anyone with chronic illness and for anyone seeking to understand what it's like for people with chronic illness.

Yet it also portrays very specific and varied young people living with cancer--a disease unique in its brand of life-changing. This is a window into their lives.

I read this book as someone who wanted to understand better what a friend with cancer was going through and also as someone who has conducted interviews and wondered how a writer can best convey them powerfully. Kairol has succeeded on both counts. Her writing is honest and deft. And the way she moderates, integrating her own personal experience and commentary with the real voices of cancer patients writing, is an amazing feat. This book is incredibly artful and informative!

IVF Explained By Compassionate Dr

One of the best information sources about in vitro fertilization. Very well written with sensitivity and compassion by an experienced doctor who has successfully helped many overcome infertility with IVF. Although IVF is not for me and my husband, after reading Expecting Miracles I am much more informed about those who travel down this journey to parenthood. An excellent recommendation for friends and/or family members of (as well as) those attempting IVF.

This book is an accurate and amazing portrayal of the intelligence, skill and compassion of Dr. Christo Zouves. I am one of his patients. I was told by other physicians that there was no known cause and no treatment for my continued pregnancy losses. Dr. Zouves discovered and treated the cause and the result is my son. I endured extensive treatment to moderate my immune response to pregnancy and complete successfully one cycle of in-vitro fertilization and embryo transfer.
The ordeal of infertility diagnosis and treatment is discovered by the reader in a fascinating manner through the true stories of individual families. You will be surprised at what people will endure to have a child. This book is informative and compelling reading. When he is old enough, I plan to give it to my son to explain how much he was wanted and how hard we and Dr. Zouves worked to bring him into our family.

Expecting Miracles: On the Path of Hope from Infertility to Parenthood gives you a very realistic look at the lives of fertility patients. The book is helpful medically, but written with heart and compassion. I found myself laughing and crying -- it's definitely inspirational and provides hope to continue seeking the child of your dreams! END

I really enjoyed this book and found it so inspirational. I loved the format---basically all stories (I called them case studies in the title, but that's really too dry a term---they are warm and complete stories) of people going through treatment for infertility, and the outcome of these treatments. I think almost every possible kind of case is covered! The book is very honest about how tough it can be to go through the treatment---I really had no idea how much was involved in assisted reproduction, and I gained new respect for what some families go through to have children. I did think once or twice that the book might have been more balanced if there were one or two more cases in it where the technologies were not successful, to make the book more like the statistics of how often such treatments really do work. But I know this was a book about successes, and I think it would be very inspirational to a lot of people, in addition to being well written and a great read.

Compassionate look at cutting-edge fertility treatment

"Expecting Miracles" is a warm, compassionate and uplifting description of the experiences of a dozen or so couples who sought help in conceiving a child from the author's infertility clinic. Each chapter tells one couple's story, as a sort of a mini-character study or "case study"; we learn about the patients' medical histories, their relationship with their significant others, their personalities, and the impact that their difficulty in conceiving & carrying to term has had on them & their families. Interspersed with the human stories are clear & succinct explanations of the science and medical technology used to help infertile couples conceive. Dr. Zouves' reverence for the spirituality and mystery inherent in the reproductive process was particularly refreshing.

As someone currently undergoing the initial stages of fertility treatment, I found the scientific information very helpful in understanding more about the delicate reproductive process (and how today's medicine can assist). I also found myself responding very emotionally to the plight of these couples. You'd have to have a heart of stone not to shed a tear at some of these beautiful, yet painful, stories! Nearly all of the stories have happy endings, though, and while that certainly does make for a less depressing book, it probably represents an unrealistic cross-section of infertility patients. Not everyone can be helped (sadly, I have several dear friends who fall into this category) and I imagine relatively few couples have the resources to pursue the kind of cutting-edge treatment Dr. Zouves describes - flying to the West Coast constantly, staying in hotels, paying for surrogates, not to mention the cost of the treatment itself (rarely covered by insurance). On the other hand, the book may well provide the necessary hope for those who are just barely hanging on in the midst of the physically and emotionally grueling treatment.

I read this book in one sitting. The characters were authentic--from Wynonna, the beauty supplier to Tuck, the cantankerous old fighter pilot. The book wraps the entire community in a quilt of wildly varying patterns, albeit stitched with a strong thread which ties all of their lives together in a solid package. Tuck, the central character is an ordinary pilot, yet superlative in what he accomplishes. It is a very satisfying portrait of Air Force life.

Today's everyday life is so vastly different from our AF days that I didn't think it possible to uncover sentiments from the past, but that's exactly what Kathy has done. It's more than reminiscing, it's the familiarity of the characters, locations, and occurrences that allowed me to take a trek down memory lane; re-experiencing the "remember when..." and "that sounds just like..." moments. Consistent development and descriptive narratives emanate visual images allowing reader to partake in the passage. Thanks Kathy! Loved the book.

All pilots of high performance aircraft, especially those of fighters, have two loves. One, that of their flying world, few ever know. The other, family, nearly everyone knows.
In "The Final Salute" Kathleen Rodgers weaves both into a story that unites the two like I've never seen done. Her Gina, the wife every pilot wants and needs, leads a cast of characters who bring military flying to vibrant life. Across the spectrum, humor to tragedy, petty base politics to gut-wrenching war, Rodgers captures it. Family strife to family as all, she nails it.
"The Final Salute" is a fantastic read that entertains as well as it illuminates. Any reader much involved in the human race will love it.

I loved this book, "The Final Salute". I laughed, I cried, and I remembered. As a retired fighter pilot, this book did an excellent job of reminding me what life in a fighter squadron was like. I read this book in one day--I couldn't put it down. I highly recommend this book to anyone--prior military or not. It is a highly entertaining and wonderful insight to military life. Thank you Kathy for putting it all together in such a wonderful format.

This book will lead you on a journey through a diverse spectrum of emotions, characters, situations and locations. It has a rich, creative and complex plot capturing the issues and drama of family life in the USAF. Kathleen nailed the charismatic personality of a heroic American fighter pilot. How they act, think, joke, play, and feel. Not too surprising since she is married to one! I highly recommend this book to all those interested in flight and military families. I flew through this book because I could not stop reading it. The details of life growing up in the Bronx were truly mind blowing, especially for someone who grew up in a super sheltered environment.

However, the best part of this book is how Canada relates how the gun culture has doomed inner city children to an adolescence of violence and how something must be done to change this.

This is the most powerful anti-gun books I have ever read, and the message isn't shoved down your throat, it's told through the author's own life experience which makes it that more powerful.

A must read.

This is hands down one of the best books I have read. Not only does Geoffrey Canada explain in gritty detail the inner workings of ghetto society, he also lists solid well-thought solutions, which would enable inner city youth and residents to rise above poverty and despair. We, the people, have turned a cheek for much too long. Something really can be done. This book should be required reading for high school and college-level coursework.

Dr. Canada presents an emotive argument for gun control through story and eclecticism. He makes an interesting case for the slide from Fist to Gun without ever dealing with the reason for the violence of fist and/or gun. One might argue with his conclusions though one cannot argue with his heart's concern as to the results caused by the increased violence. Overall, a good read for thought and/or argument.

I personally have had the opportunity to hear Geoffrey Canada speak at my college twice, he an alumni of Bowdoin College. Not only is his book inspiring, he spoke to my class about joining the "losing team", and making a difference in the lives of others, like those of the South Bronx and Harlem, NY. Not only has he lived to tell, he has taken his experiences and turned them into something very positive, by developing and running the Harlem Children Zone, making a difference to those children there. The book is a great read for anybody who is an urban educator, or involved in social services.

I wish this book had been available years ago when my child was first diagnosed. It answers so many of the questions we struggled with. Dr. Wood has a friendly, down to earth, living-with-it practical way of presenting information. From diagnosis to recipes to venturing off to school, there is a chapter on just about everything you can think of. I was especially fascinated with the future of treatments. This is an excellent, comprehensive yet easy to read book - thank you Dr. Wood!

Next book request on my wish list - the psychological and emotional toll living with food allergies has on our lives and how to overcome them.

Last year I discovered that I'd developed a severe IgE-mediated tree-nut allergy (and I'm in my mid-20s!) This book helped fill in the blanks of all the questions I didn't get a chance to ask my allergist.

One of the best parts is that the book is written by a peanut allergic allergist, because in a lot of other books you get the sense that the author, even if s/he is a doctor, doesn't really *get* what it's like to actually live with a food allergy.

The book is easy to understand but with plenty of good info and I never got bored or felt like I was being talked down to. I've read a few other food allergy books, but this is the one I usually turn too when I have a question. I only wish I could get everyone I know that doesn't understand cross-contamination to read it!

This book is an excellent book of poetry for all ages, but especially for children ages 9 to 15. I had the original version of this book when I was a child, and I absolutely loved it. I must say that the original version of the book, The Golden Treasury of Poetry (copyright 1959), is better, because the illustrations are printed in blue, brown and green rather than just the black of the newer version. Also, the pages of the original are heavier, and the original includes about five poems which should not have been removed in the newer version. However, if the original is not available, I would buy this new version in a heartbeat. It is a wonderful introduction to classic poetry.

I was given this book when I was two by my grandmother, a librarian. I have poured over this book from the very first day it was given to me. First, looking at the pictures and having my parents read the nursery rhymes. In elementary school, I began to read it myself. By late elementary school through high school, the book had become a useful reference. I still have the one given to me by my grandmother and absolutely treasure it. I look forward to sharing my book with my soon-to-be born first child.

This collection covers everything from nursery rhymes to Shakespeare. Wonderful illustrations and a great collection of poetry, which doesn't believe that children are too young to grasp the meaning of the poems.

I was given this book on my 7th birthday and read it over the years until the covers came off. It is full of every delightful children's poem you can imagine. When young, I read the nursery rhymes and "The Moon is the North Wind's Cookie" and "The Duel".

When older, I delighted in "The Village Smithy" "The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere" and "The Children's Hour".

To this day I can quote great swatches of it. The Joan Anglund drawings are charming and capture all the excitement and inspiration of this wonderful collection. If you at all think your children will like "rhymes" give this one a try.

This was a Christmas gift from my mother when my children were small. We wore out the book and it has been taped together lovingly to read now to my grandchildren. This is one of my favorites from the book.

The Chickens

Said the first little chicken,
With a strange little squirm,
"I wish I could find
A fat little worm."

Said the next little chicken,
With an odd little shrug:
"I wish I could find
A fat little bug."

Said a third little chicken,
With a small sigh of grief,
"I wish I could find
A green little leaf!"

Said the fourth little chicken,
With a faint little moan,
"I wish I could find
A wee gravel stone."

"Now, see here!" said the mother,
From the green garden patch,
"If you want any breakfast,
Just come here and scratch!"

I found this book by reading all of the reviews written so far, and the readers did not steer me wrong! This book is full of valuable information to transform body, mind and soul. The authors have done their homework and present the material in a very readable style. Chapters 3, 7 and 8 are exceptional.

This is a great book, for three reasons:

1) It is an amazing diagnostic tool. The reader is led through the process of identifying and putting into place many small symptoms that he or she might not even have identified before. These are traced to their sources so that the reader comes away with a very good understanding of what is happening and why.

2) The book specifies some highly refined yet incredibly simple corrective approaches - given along with the data that support their use.

3) In addition, three is mindset that permeates the book so thoroughly that the reader cannot help but absorb it. It says, "Nothing's hopeless. There are tools to meet this challenge." This is such a positive element that the book would be worth recommending even if it wasn't so great in the first two senses mentioned!

The greatest book, ever!

Wake up people! Bio identical hormones are the way to go! I've never felt this great and I won't live my life any other way. If ever there were a moment that called for rising above life's little ( and not so little) unpleasantries that moment is now! This book is a instant pick-me-up! Bravo Doc's!

I first bought this book in 1986 when I was still a student. I followed all the advice as best I could and found it very helpful. Starting work and a period of illness, along with all the other things that life has thrown my way has meant that I have not always kept up with all seven steps. But this is still a book that I return to time after time when I am trying to do something to improve my health. I know that I should be following the seven steps all the time - that's the whole point - but I also know I fall far short of the ideal. It's still a book I would highly recommend to anyone looking to get some perspective on how God wants us to care for ourselves.

very useful information

I love this book! A friend of mine lent me this book several years ago and I had to return it after I read it. I recently decided to buy a copy for myself. It is full of very useful and wise information. I agree with almost everything that Stormie says in this book. It is written in such a way that is easy to put to use in my life. The seven steps are complete and can be put to good use in anyone's life that is truly interested in better health. I believe that if anyone were to read this book and put the information to use it could change their life in truly positive ways.

Stormie OMartian has researched the health books and gleaned the best from them. She covers all the things we should do to be healthy, and inspires us through God to do it. I bought copies for several of my friends. One of the best condensed fasting books I've seen.
