In Travel Security Sourcebook, consumers can access basic information about security issues related to travel. One might not expect that a weighty reference could form from such a topic, but there's a lot to discuss, from safety in airports and on planes to preparing for emergencies while traveling abroad, protecting money and avoiding health risks, and traveling with the elderly and children. An excellent survey of the issues involved in travel safety.

This book gives you a plain English overview of all the major illnesses which may affect the traveller and is very easy to understand. I found the appendices particularly useful as these provide you with information such as drinking water safety and the relative risk of disease country by country. Interestingly, the book also gives advice on accident avoidance and other less obvious hazards (e.g. UV light and acute mountain sickness). If you want a book that you can rely on to give you the facts while 'in the field', I would highly recommend this one.

There was so much useful information packed into this book, I now keep it in a drawer in my kitchen for quick reference. I like to cook and am always worried about how long to keep something in the refrigerator, when to worry about bacteria, how to store food, what the correct temperature is, etc. etc. It's well-written, nicely designed, plus, I love CRU restaurant in NYC and the chef there has endorsed it. All good!
