This book is short, but very accurate on what is taking place in commercial aviation today. From laid-off aviation workers, to buisness and vacation travelers, the information contained in this expose will certainly give a clearer picture on how and why the industry is in shambles. This little book is perfect for the vacation or business traveler if you want clear, unadulterated truth. If you want to know where to sit, and why, read this book! Know exactly why pilots lobby congress to keep video cameras, and wall mounted breathalyzers out of cockpits! I must say for such a short book, it cuts to the quick!

I read this today and I completely agree. This is a great resource and should be used by everyone involved with keeping our children safe.

"The Jane's School Safety Handbook is one of the finest resource guides available on safe school planning, and it will be a catalyst for schools meeting the mandate of California Senate Bill #187--The Safe School Planning Process. We are putting them in every school in the Los Angeles Unified School District."

The Jane's School Safety Handbook is a MUST for anyone interested in school safety. There is a wealth of practical, easy to understand information packed into this small book. Written by some of the best national experts in the field, this comprehensive book outlines what to do -- from planning to recovery, and includes many helpful checklists and sample letters.

A unique feature of this handbook is a section of case studies that clearly demonstrate that a crisis can happen to anyone. These real-life experiences "highlight the limitations of profiling and the importance of comprehensive crisis planning, prevention, response and recovery plans." As a school distict crisis-responder, I found this book to be most helpful. It is appropriate for both beginners and those experienced in crisis/emergency response. Don't wait for a crisis to happen before you read this book.

This book presents a refreshing, straightforward approach to laser safety. The authors have written the material in such a way, that a person with little or no laser experience can establish a safe working laser environment. Unlike other laser safety manuals, this book provides hands on advice and practical tips without bogging the reader down with trivial information. I highly recommend this book for anyone who will be working in a laser environment.

Excellent book on eye-safety for people that use lasers

This book should be a required-reading for new as well as experienced users of laser devices who work in close proximity of laser beams. It points out clearly and succinctly the danger that a beam of laser may posses. Even a very low power may cause permanent damage to unprotected eyes. The book is certainly worth its price.

You may find yourself muttering "I knew that!" after reading each of the hints about keeping yourself safe in your auto, home, RV, trampolines, swimming pools; in the snow, the rain, on the golf course etc., etc., however, remember the old saying: "accidents will happen."

After a few readings of LIVE SAFELY IN A DANGEROUS WORLD you will reduce the amount of "self-inflicted" accidents in your family's life.

One of the things LIVE SAFELY IN A DANGEROUS WORLD consistently reminds us of is that many of the things we use are not toys, they are serious machines or phenomena which will cause death, or at best life-long injury.

Rebeccasreads recommends LIVE SAFELY IN A DANGEROUS WORLD with its superb Information Source & Index. It is a handy handbook to have around the house, on vacation & in your car.

Review Date: 2002-12-12
Humorous, cartoon-style illustrations add a little touch of light humor to Live Safely In A Dangerous World: How To Beat The Odds Of Dying In An Accident, a very serious and practical guide to minimizing the odds of suffering dangerous or fatal accidents. Sober, sound advice for driving (never argue with a big truck), home safety (chemicals to watch out for), recreational safety from boating to hunting, avoiding the hazards of international travel, and a special section devoted to kids' safety, make Live Safely In A Dangerous World a well-rounded, erudite and first-rate primer warning the reader of both obvious and subtle daily hazards. Highly recommended; a careful perusal of the pages of Live Safely In A Dangerous World could potentially save lives.

As a professor of environmental health science, I find this text to be one of the most comprehensive, balanced, and science-rich texts avaialble. The third edition is the best yet, with minor typos, etc. corrected from previous editions. I also like the balance struck between environmental science and public health in this text. What I have usually found when reviewing texts for course use, is that they over emphasize one area or the other. The new chapter on disaster preparedness is a plus. The science rich presentation is well thought out and balanced. It provides just the right amount of challenge and knitting together of various scientific disciplines to be appropriate for my junior/senior level and graduate students.
